Pindi is a Swahili word meaning time, place, moment; a marker; a bend in a river; a change in direction. Mapindi is the plural. 

Through a life of experience in time and space we gather a collection of moments, which we use to express the stories of our lives. Mapindi reflects the notion of narrative identity, were we link the key thematic moments and emotional markers reflected in our experience, to form a narrative through which our lives may be told - knowingly or unknowingly, through this expression an individual identity is revealed.

I am curious about the personal interpretation of experience, not as hedonism, but as discovery, opportunity and personal agency. The emotions and feelings we associate with experience, and how we represent and share these experiences, reinforce and challenge our understanding of our personal sense-of-place over time. How our stories are interpreted and reflected back as feedback can be equally revealing. Through mindful, emotional, and creative practices, our Mapindi is one part of an on-going dialogue with the environment around us. For better or worse, conscious or unconscious, the potential for wonder and despair are equally present.
