Maŕa, experimental artist and founder of the hybrid collective/label, Cultivated Sound, will be releasing a music video, and coinciding EP, for their single "Rebellion" next month. The track, originally released in a compilation by Silent Servant and Rrose called Air Texture VII, will be re-released alongside remixes by LDY OSC and S. English.

Visually, “Rebellion” is subjective, giving the viewers an individual experience by creating their own story or relationship with Maŕa from the outside. The film also examines Maŕa’s relationship with the viewer as represented by the camera. Her sound is a synthesis of deep, complex atmospheres and punchy rhythms tinged with dance-floor grit. Blurring the lines between ambient, experimental music, and deep bass rhythm, Maŕa’s expertise in sound now has a graphic landscape in the form of her own haunting, virtual oasis.

In 2002, the artist, writer and digital filmmaker Mark Amerika founded the University of Colorado’s TECHNE Lab, one of the first digital arts and humanities labs headquartered in a major research university. Amerika, whose artwork has been exhibited internationally at venues such as the Whitney Biennial of American Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Walker Art Center, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, describes the TECHNE Lab as “a space for intermedia collaboration” and “an experimental art incubator that investigates future forms of new media art, everything from Internet art to transmedia narrative, live cinema performance, interactive installations, and virtual art.”

The Lab draws much of its inspiration from the 20th century avant-garde art and writing scenes and was known in the early 2000s as a hotspot for the evolution of a new art movement referred to as Avant-Pop. Since its founding, the Lab has hosted scores of new media artists and theorists and over the years has served as the educational home for a select group of students and faculty affiliates who have since gone on to become important figures in both the contemporary art world and higher arts education.

Nocturnal Frequencies White Series is a selection of evocative techno primarily heeding its metaphorical significance. All tracks are, in one way or another, in relation to landscape music. The key is the ambiance. Ambient music surely constitutes the essence of landscape music. This compilation is made of successive landscapes: from the sweetest to the hardest, from the darkest to the brightest, from the lightest to the most oppressive one. This is a journey to listen to in one go and thus, in the midst of each of these sound landscapes, the presence of a vague human shape shall be felt.

‘But I’ is a reflection of my constant evolving sound and journey to finding my inner voice using vocals as an instrument and poetic textures. During this production I used my Korg ESX, Fender Strat and some analog pedals to further introduce to you the sound that really speak within me.

Special Interest Group is the first compilation to be released on Cultivated Sound, featuring tracks from both experimental artists, ambient, and dance music artists locally in New York and internationally.

This compilation expands the dynamic range of electronic music by incorporating a variety of sounds from ambient, electronic to electro-acoustics to noise, house and techno.

“Special Interest Group” represents a post-utopian vision on forming a community of artists that narrates the experience of traveling to an imaginary reality, sharing a collective interest in expanding the listener's perception of sound by experimenting and advancing sound from machines and acoustic instruments. By inputting information, creating an environment to learn, collaborate, reflect and address ideas to each other. This compilation showcases Cultivated Sound’s aesthetic and pursues in sound, also is a tribute to the place that can be inhabited but is nevertheless a mirage.

The three tape album is mastered by Ryan Wurst, featuring artwork and photography by Tayla Roberge. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with PASP, releasing both physically and digitally.
