The story of how this record came together spans as far back as 2016, when Marcus and Dillan met for the first time backstage at an Underachievers X Ab-soul show that Dillan was booked to open for. At the time, Marcus had no real plans of pursuing a professional music career, let alone thought that he would ever get the opportunity to collaborate with an artist such as Dillan. Fast forward to 2019, and Marcus’ released his debut single titled “Bob Barker”, which featured an artist by the name of Jimmy B, who is signed to the same independent record label as Dillan, Smashmouth Entertainment. Although the two had not spoken in years, Marcus’ name was familiar to Dillan when he received the email with the reference version of the song, and he agreed that he would quote-unquote “Put it in the stretcher”. That’s when the two met in person at Manic Studios in Toronto, and finished the final version of the song which you hear today.

Based on true events, the song details a sighting of an infamously famous rapper who was shooting a music video out front of his house but was shot dead a week later. This song is a tribute to all the fallen angels from The Dot.

If you're from Toronto, you know exactly where you were when this shot happened. Marcus Lawrence takes this opportunity to pay homage to the athlete that finally brought the title to his hometown. This conceptual record boasts hard-hitting production from super-producer Sinister. The focal point of the record is the deep-cutting keys that help carry Marcus' flow perfectly. "Kawhi" marks the 8th instalment of Marcus' 12-month release schedule which kick-started in December of 2019.

After a business trip to NYC, Marcus decided to take his experiences and manifest them into a song. With hard hitting production from super producer Sinister, ‘Wolves’ is a way to see life through Marcus’ eyes. The song will be promoted via online advertisement campaigns as well as a massive push to Marcus’ organic audience.

Born on the East side of Toronto, Marcus' musical background spans all the way back to his youth. His mom put him in guitar lessons at the young age of 10, where he excelled in electric guitar and went on to play the instrument in hardcore/punk bands as a pre-teen. As he grew into his early teenage years, he fell in love with Hip-Hop and studied the roots of the genre early on in his life. He would eventually begin writing his own lyrics and participating in local rap cyphers when he noticed the studying paying off, and it showed in his ability to craft a song. It wasn’t until his mid twenties that he would decide to chase the dream of pursuing a music career, but the decision was fuelled by the fear of leaving earth without a try.   Early on in his career, he would work exclusively with a Toronto-based music collective named The 258 Boys, where he gained experience in the studio and on the stage. Performing at local showcases such as NXNE as well as parties/events co-hosted by Marcus himself. He has since decided to pursue a solo career, and looks forward to dropping consistent releases throughout the next couple years.
