Bedrock keeps up the creative techno pressure with a stunning double-header from Harvey McKay, who has emerged from Glasgow’s underground clubbing scene to become one of the hottest new prospects around with his distinctive driving, energetic, soulful style that makes his tracks so unique.

Having already provided a highlight for Bedrock’s Underground Sound Of Miami Series 3 album (the huge “Phone Freaker”), and collaborated with Carlo Lio on the highly popular “Droid Decay” (Beddigi40), Harvey McKay returns to round-off 2014 in style with “Amen” and “Cry Wolf”.

The perfection with which he blends a raw, pounding groove with a simple, soulful vocal hook is mark of a man pure creative talent. Subtle house-influenced flourishes take the whole production process up a level, giving the track a spacious sound with character and depth that few can equal. “Cry Wolf” takes this creative blueprint in a heavier, hypnotic, and equally distinctive direction. 

It’s no wonder that Harvey McKay regularly tops the Beatport Techno Charts. Apart from his exceptional tracks on Bedrock, he has released standout gems on Drumcode, Cocoon and Soma, along with a string of monster remixes. With a talent like this rising on the global stage the future of techno certainly looks very exciting indeed!

Dutch live-act and DJ duo Artefakt prepare their atmospheric debut album on renowned techno imprint Delsin this February.

Known separately as Robin Koek and Nick Lapien, the pair first appeared on Field Records before follow up releases on Prologue, Delsin and Konstrukt. Individually Nick has been making waves under his Lapien moniker, dropping productions via Fred P’s Soul People Music, Finale Sessions, Rekids and DVS1’s Mistress Recordings, whereas Koek’s intricate sound design work has been performed globally at the likes of Toronto, Viseu, New York, Ohio, Berlin and Amsterdam.

True to their distinct mesmerising aesthetic, the album commences with a suspenseful number named ‘Kinship’ that combines sweeping pads with ominous tones. Pattering drums introduce ‘Tapestry’ before ghostly notes are brought into the equation, leading into ‘Entering The City’ with its rumbling low-end and soaring harmonies.

Next, ‘Somatic Dreams’ initiates with stuttering stabs as distorted nuances operate throughout, making way for the chugging ‘Fernweh’ with its ethereal synths and sci-fi throbs. ‘Return To Reason’ then incorporates heady acid squelches and hypnotic tape delays before opulent chords conclude the package in an ambient finale titled ‘Tapeloop 1’.

Kinship portrays a compelling narrative in a body of work that will undoubtedly keep listeners engaged from start to finish.

We have to admit it in front: Cocoon loves Harvey McKay! Already his Cocoon Recordings debut on the "Dots & Pearls II" compilation has the finger on the pulse, as it appears to us. Everything should be more orientated to "beat one". McKay follows the return to Techno and strong beats, and delivers a hi-energy package that has no peer.

"Shake" is Techno at its best! Dub Techno elements in a Basic-Channel-style meet kicking, masculine beats as you may know most likely from Santos releases, all united in the meanwhile typical McKay style. McKay is the incarnate Techno beat, and "Shake" is no exception! Given McKay's standards, "Move" is almost a breather. Well, it's still equipped with a mighty kick drum, but everything comes in a little more tranquil. A new twist on McKay, if you want, with a strong Detroit and Berlin flair. Urban, dark, thoughtful and the matching soundtrack for grey city skies on Sunday morning at 7:30h, on the way home from Panoramabar.

With "Mind's Eye", Harvey McKay then returns to his usual style. We hear a dark Tech-House piece with crashy synth chords that remind of the big Slam and Underworld hits. Great vocal samples round up the rave reminiscence in a perfect way!

After years and years of this never ending House revival, McKay presents three fat and peak-time-suitable muscle tracks that transport only one message: PAAAR-TAAAAY!

Everyone's fate is made of many tales. Although our own destiny might be dwelling in our breast, it also takes strong convictions and the courage to challenge yourself. DJ, producer and label manager Marcel Fengler is the best example that talent isn’t just a matter of luck, but the will to believe in your own passions while constantly developing them. Today, Fengler has not only been quoted as „one of the finest techno DJs“ (Resident Advisor), he has earned international respect for his „well-crafted body of production work“ (FACT) introducing his unique and „multi-faceted personality“ (Electronic Beats). 

While growing up, he was first fascinated by the hip-hop culture, breakdance, and graffiti art, Fengler’s interest shifted towards techno music and the art of DJing after the Berlin wall came down. As a vinyl nerd he began playing records during the early nineties. By witnessing Claude Young mixing with three record players, Fengler followed his path merging both hearts in his chest: turntablism and techno. Carried away by the magic and the togetherness of the first hardcore and trance raves in such clubs like E-Werk or Tresor, he organized his own parties in his hometown Fürstenwalde.

Over the last two decades, Fengler developed a versatile and dynamic style of DJing that made him one of the first resident DJs of Berlin’s infamous Berghain / Panorama Bar in 2005. With his impressive intuition for the very moment, Fengler is capable of changing pace, atmosphere, and energy reacting to the mood on the dance floor: whether industrial-drenched hardness, broken beats, gloomy dubs or melodic and funky grooves – next to his inimitable instinct, Fengler draws from a varied repertoire. The approach of allowing to drift away within the momentum also applies to his first singles as a producer on such labels like Ostgut Ton and Mote Evolver. His debut album „Fokus“ (2013), in particular, was a statement of his ambitious claim, awarding his own tracks with emotional densities as well as unexpected contrasts. 

Bringing together both his melodic groove and beat tracks and his straighter cuts, he founded his own imprint Marcel Fengler Index (IMF) in 2011 – a platform that not only continues evolving his timeless techno approach but represents a creative center introducing new and young talents. A logical step for an artist who’s always interested in looking beyond his own nose represented by his project DIN, the mutual collaboration with Philipp Sollmann (Efdemin), for the contemporary dance project „Masse“ of the Staatsballett Berlin. 

As a DJ and producer, Marcel Fengler stands for imposing surprises and the appeal of variety. For him, techno is both unconditional passion as well as an essential part of his identity. He’s not bound to a linear or one-dimensional sound, instead, he’s constantly seeking for new ways to express his emotional storytelling skills. His willingness to challenge himself and to stay curious, while establishing changes as his secret persistence, is showing his true vision of techno which makes Marcel Fengler to one of the today’s most exciting electronic artists in these days.
