The satisfaction of achieving an objective is always great. When that target is having your music signed to one of your favourite labels, well, the sense of fulfillment must be immense. Barcelona based duo The Deals are currently basking in those feelings as they ready the release of their 'Maniac EP' on SCI+TEC. 

Badalona boys, Alex and Denis, first stepped into the studio together back in 2011. With a shared passion for the darker side of techno and a vast array of ideas already flowing, the pair set to work. Releases for the likes of Deeperfect and Toolroom have followed and The Deals have become key figures in Barcelona’s ever expanding and strong Techno scene. 

Whilst the title may conjure frenzied images the ‘Intro’ delivers a calculated and yet sinister and chilling opening. A vibe that is taken up by ‘Crazy (Tool)’ with its creeping groove and climbing synth. The bubbling and pacey throb of ‚Rumor’ closes the Ep, with is percolating drops and manic vox.

Tronic has been at the forefront of the electronic underground scene for more than a decade and is considered one of the top selling techno labels in the world. Its boss, Christian Smith was introduced to Drunken Kong during a trip to Tokyo, where the Japanese duo are somewhat local legends, holding down a residency at Womb amongst many other spots in the city.
Now with 4 EPs under their belt, they announce their debut album this June, but first they have a teaser EP to show us whats to come with Life We Knew.
The EP kicks off with ''Life We Knew'', delivering a rolling sub to set the tone and a deep synth horn which tangles with another sinister vocal.
The ''Rhythm'' comes at you with an infectious and hypnotic vocal, accompanied by a fearless low end. Crunchy percussion and synth stabs echo throughout - heavy hitter for every warehouse out there, whereas a bouncing bass sets a funkier tone for ''Mission''.

Joran van Pol is back on Minus with Edge, a fantastic four track EP that is his first on the label since 2013. In the years since, the Amsterdam based artist has set up his own FADE label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. 

Previously, van Pol has also released on labels like Rejected, SCI+TEC and Ideal Audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. As a DJ he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from Space Ibiza to Time Warp all behind him. Having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. 

‘Illos’ opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. Rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. Next comes title track ‘Edge’, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. It’s a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. 

The perfectly high pressure ‘Return’ is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. A dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brain-melting bit of futuristic techno. 

Last but not least, ‘Frostbite’ is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. It has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. It’s an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. 

These are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scene’s brightest stars.
