Highly anticipated by both fans and music critics, Fossil Archive 003 is a blanket of techno adulation, full of sky-high feeling through its warm and expansive energy.

‘Perisphinctes’ which received a radio exclusive on B.Traits’ BBC Radio 1 show in August, marks itself as part of the vanguard of modern techno. Purposely incompatible with the masses, it clearly lends itself to the underground, pushing its charisma in the direction of the label’s earthy vociferation. With its driving montage, its monolithic kick and general depth, it holds its own in any given setting.

Evoking a weighty hospitality of sound, ‘Tiziani’ supplements bleak with feel-good synth exertion. Straying from the conventional framework of techno, this is a stripped back, atonal portrait of effectual techno culture. Without confusion, this unblemished and wholesome howl of voice brings with it a rich, affable buzz, perfectly suiting both the big room and more intimate homely surroundings.

Kerri Chandler's Kaoz Theory imprint (founded in 2015) follows up on the standout Voyeur LP by welcoming back Satoshi Tomiie to the fold. The Paris + NYC based Japanese producer previously made his mark on the label with a remix of the bossman's 'Turn Off The Lights'. February 27th sees him back for his own two track EP. It includes the dynamite '512 Jam' - a track you can hear in full exclusively on When We DIp today.

As a production team, Run Stop Restore has been a pragmatic group with Marc Houle, Troy Pierce and Magda pursuing their own hectic schedules of production and performance. Recently, the three members have taken the opportunity to meet in the same studio to combine their unique ideas. Their Items and Things imprint - a label set up as an output for new projects, collaborations and ideas with a distinctly left of centre attitude is primarily run by wireless communication. After a pair of compilation EPs, the first act to receive a dedicated release was Click Box - the brainchild of Marco Silva and Pedro Turra whose tough, retro sound, non-conformist arrangements and skilful sound design fitted perfectly to the I&T ethos. The relationship has obviously grown at speed, culminating in this two track Minus release recorded during a five day session in Sao Paulo, Brazil. With all five artists jamming together on a host of analog synths and a low slung bass guitar contribution from Marc Houle.

The collaboration produces two cylindrical grooves that work like a thermos flask - signifying the presence of heat without radiating it. There’s a smouldering intensity contained by a cool outer casing that give the tracks a very particular attitude, with certain key instruments being recorded and used unsequenced, without edits or quantization that raise the curtain on side A. Any track entitled Helen in the Keller needs to be approached with a certain amount of caution and the glassy shards of warping live bass guitar together with Troy’s raw claustrophobic vocal musings create a dark tone as the lunatic fringe takes over. The track is essentially split into two halves, with the second introducing a low, oscillating Juno-60 style bass riff that merges with the hi-hat driven rhythm section to enhance the tracks danceability. From there on, all the elements gel perfectly creating a track that manages to harness the energy of a live performance with some instruments being recorded in one shot.

As collaborations go – it fits like a glove. Anyone who’s been following the trajectories of those involved should have no trouble spotting their individual contributions and how they compliment each other so effectively on these futuristic interpretations of bygone genres.

About 2 years ago, I went to a techno event with my homie. While walking towards the club we run into an old friend, he tells us "Yo I'm working security here! Imma walk you guys in, so you won't have to pay!!!". So we follow him and skip through a long line of antsy party goers. He walks us up to the cashiers box, when a scuffle breaks out in the line outside. He leaves us to go control the situation. After a few seconds the cashier girl tells us "Hi $20 each please", so my boy tells her "we're with the security guard (Mike) he was gonna walk us in." She asked if we were on the list, we weren't. So she starts giving us a bit of crap, I tell my boy "Fuck it, let's just pay the $20, originally we were gonna pay anyways". Now at this very second the head promoter gets there and the cashier immediately tells him " hey these guys don't want to pay", she wasn't in the best of moods and blew things a bit over proportion. The promoter starts nodding his head, and says no there's no more comps for this. So my boy kinda flips out and decides to say " hey this is Jesse Perez, he's on BPitch Control, how you gonna charge him!". The promoter looks over at me and says he's heard of me and lets us both in for free. Once we get into the club I tell my boy " Damn dawg you had to say BPitch Control.. I'm not on Bpitch Control. He's gonna look that up and say we're liars". 2 years later, I'm remixing Ellen Allien for a release on BPitch. I sleep better at night now knowing my boy isn't a liar, just a misunderstood psychic.
