Trick welcomes SHADED back to the label with his next hit, ‘Naughty Mofo’.

LA-based SHADED brings the heat with his second two-tracker for Patrick Topping’s globally renowned Trick. Known for his releases on Hot Creations, DIRTYBIRD, Desert Hearts, and Turbo, SHADED continues to signify his place at the forefront of groove-driven music on his latest EP. 

Across the release, SHADED delivers a futuristic dance-floor track packed with warped vocals repeating over the top of slick 80’s synths in ‘Naughty Mofo’. ‘Hustla Baby’ ups the energy, leading into choppy drums paired with a rumbling bassline and catchy samples for an essential peak time track.

Correspondant have thrown a curveball into the equation with their latest release. They invite the much loved Vitalic on top the label to contribute two tracks of heavy duty club orientated oddball weirdness.

Continuing a busy run of recent releases on Minus is one of the label's core contributors, namely Jon Gaiser. Since late 2005, the Detroit-born, Berlin-based producer has been intrinsically linked to the rise and rise of the label owing to key releases like his Eye Contact EP, genre defining 2008 full length, Blank Fade, and last year's huge EP, Unstable Witness.

Techno Vocals

Ellum Audio mainstay Raxon is back with two more of his cosmic techno wonders.

Raxon hails from Egypt, is Barcelona based and has risen through the ranks with a well crafted and emotive techno sound on labels like Diynamic, Kompakt, Cocoon and more. Last summer he played huge parties like Resistance Ibiza at Privilege as well as festivals like DGTL. Though he has made big moves in recent years, Raxon has been deeply involved in the scene for more than two decades.

Characterful opener 'Loop Machine' is a dark and playful tune with loopy vocals layered over a rolling drum beat. The pixelated synths spray about the mix and the whole thing is destined to make the club bounce as one.

The excellent 'Love Lapse' has a retro feel with its 80s synth chords and widescreen astral atmospheres. A busy bassline does plenty of work to keep things moving, while turbulent blasts of synths and prickly percussion add vital texture to this late night jam.

These are two more forward-looking and evocative tracks from the ever on-point Raxon.

Why are the vocals turned down so low? This is the way we make Techno!

To mark the label’s 50th release Marc Houle gets right back to basics with two raw, stripped down future classics. What’s more both vinyl cuts, “Techno Vocals” and “On It” clock in at under six minutes meaning that this compact 12inch’s sound and message is going to be coming through extra loud and clear.

On “Techno Vocals” (as with all Houle productions) each sound is perfectly realised, commanding its own space with metronomic discipline. The rigid drum patterns, analogue explosions, regimented snare rolls, laser guided effects and delayed bleeps interact with supreme efficiency, while the arrangement is mapped out with cool, calculated intent. The result is a totally robust example of A-grade techno that’s really brought to life by the self-referential, pitched down vocal hook!

It’s well documented that Marc has more than a passing interest in 80’s electro, New Wave and retro computer games and these influences are somehow more apparent on Minus 50 than on his earlier solo releases or as part of Run, Stop, Restore. “On It” in particular will turn a few heads, making, as it does, a detour into previously unexplored territory. Revolving around a heavily filtered melodic bass riff, Houle punctuates the dry, upfront groove with a choice selection of rough, old school samples before dropping into a series of moody bass variations that give the track its distinctive flavour.

To complete the release, dub and accapella versions of “Techno Vocals” are also available as digital downloads offering amongst other things the chance to reformat the vocals over the original beats.
