The project Funkvergnuegen started in 2003 when the notorious crate diggers Marc Hype and Katmando came up with the idea to mix old german music live on their shows. The discoveries went from old MPS jazz to Krautrock rarities to obscure cover funkversions and catched a very own fan crowd. The Funkvergnuegen Promo Mix CDs, Volume 1 + 2, are most sought after in germany and beyond.

Whats shakin funky people?!?  We are back with SRS 184 and we welcome back one of our fave DJ/Producers in the scene, Raymond Delgado aka Ray-D to Soul Room Sessions!  Ray has made a name for himself with is signature groovy, jazzy house and downtempo beats over the past few years, with tracks out on Modulate Goes Digital, Jump Recordings, Spiritualized Music and Frosted Recordings just to name a few labels he's appeared on lately. Steve Cobby is a producer, musician and DJ from Hull, UK. His first commercial outing was with Ashley & Jackson, a short-lived project signed to Big Life records in 1988. When they were dropped, he co-founded Pork Recordings and Fila Brazillia in 1990. Fila released 12 critically acclaimed LPs as well as produced over 70 remixes for artists as diverse as Radiohead, Busta Rhymes, Black Uhuru, Simple Minds, James, A Certain Ratio and Moloko. 

His first paid DJ set was in 1985. He has since gone on to play all four corners of the globe from Sydney to San Francisco, New York to Tokyo as well as performing live in Europe, Japan, and the US with Fila. With David Brennand he established the iconic label Pork Recordings in 1990. An imprint that went on to become internationally acclaimed for its quality and integrity. The acclaimed compilation series "Another Late Night" was kickstarted by Fila’s mix in 2000. They also co-produced "Afghan Whigs", Greg Dulli's debut Twilight Singers LP and co-wrote with seminal US composer Harold Budd and UK legend Bill Nelson for the Three White Roses collaboration. 

Steve's other projects include Heights Of Abraham, JSTARS, The Cutler, Hey Rube, Chieftain and Citrus with Richard H Kirk. He now releases all solo work on his own Déclassé imprint. His solo LP "Saudade" garnered considerable critical acclaim, selling its limited-edition-run in spring 2014. The follow-up "Everliving" was named in Piccadilly Records' top 100 LPs of the year in 2015. The third solo outing "Hemidemisemiquaver" received similar glowing praise.

Marc Hype began his DJ career, inspired by the late great Jam Master Jay, in 1988 and went through the several decades of hip hop with countless releases, tours and competitions like the ITF championships, which he won twice in 98 & 99. During this time he collaborated and recorded with artists like the Juice Crew legend Masta Ace, Souls Of Mischief, DJ Z-Trip, Killa Kela & Mr. Lif. Over the years his record collection and his musical mind  expanded and led him to all kinds of funky music. His selection on the decks as on production is freestyle, always with a unique groove, no matter the genre.

Jim Dunloop began to train as a classical piano player at the age of four. At his minor age he was analyzing the compositions of Gershwin and Bruback, leading to a keen interest in jazz music. He quickly developed his knowledge of the creative works of many great jazz/funk pianists such as Herbie Hancock , Bob James , Chick Corea and Adam Makiewicz.

In the year 2004 they both met in Berlin for the first time and quickly began to collaborate on shows and production. Their first vinyl releases on the infamous Milk Crate label, "The Antique Anthem", "Bombay Raw" & "Finale 74", were very successful in the worldwide dj-circuit, followed by a cover version of Babe Ruth's "The Mexican" in 2006, which was dubbed by UK's Jazzman Gerald as "the" version to have. On the remix tip they build a strong reputation with works for artists like All Good Funk Alliance, Deela or Kid Gusto.Their past tour schedule proved their ability to rock internationaly with stops allover europe as in NYC, Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, United Arabian Emirates, Israel & Australia.

The live performance of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop is best defined as a mix of DJing, Turntablism and the highest of piano art. Together they gain 50 years of musical experience!

The Album

"Stamp Out Reality" is the musical manifest of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop. A diverse mix of different styles which reflects their unique live concept. On the one hand you have classic hip hop joints like "Predominant" ft. the magnificent Mr. Lif or "Oh Really" ft. Queen's own Mr. Complex, on the other you might listening to Miami's Old School Funk legend Blowfly on "The Pussy Song", cuban diva Malena Perez from NYC on the latin influenced "Rare Occasion, heavy break stompers like "Wah Wah Wah"" or a funk cover version of the 80s electro classic "Al Naafiysh (The Soul)". The concept of the album is to display the diversity of the two maestros, coming from different backrounds, met inside the hip hop culture and travelleling through the paths of 21st century funk.
