Ryuji Takeuchi - Sonoran District

Drawing inspiration from science fiction, Black liberation, and the sounds of Detroit, Huey Mnemonic designs a sound that expands Black consciousness and pushes back against the whitewashing in dance music. The Motor City-based producer and sometimes DJ takes his name from Huey P. Newton and the 1995 cyberpunk film Johnny Mnemonic, a cult classic portraying a dystopian future controlled by mega-corporations. Mnemonic recently launched his Subsonic Ebonics label with the Virtuosity EP.

Preluding the Tresor 30 compilation, Huey Mnemonic composes "Transmutation" a glistening and high-spirited shuffling dance-floor rhythm track, on which the Talking Drum meets TR-909 patterns, creating an instrumental bridge between West Africa and Detroit. With "Transmutation", Huey Mnemonic demonstrates that he is undoubtedly at the forefront of a new generation of Detroit techno producers.

„Revel“ starts the EP, with a massive groove complemented by a an equally powerful synth lead, all building towards an epic break, that makes us long for the time when we can hear this one played out on a festival again.

„Galvanize“ uses similar ingredients, but keeps the energy level deeper, making this one well suited to finish a set.

Always good to have a new talent inboard, this time the Barcelona based @Buclelive is in charge of the music menu.

Four cuts of mental and profound techno, ranging to relaxing breaks to mental drill techno.

The first cut is 777, broken rhythms, subliminal ambiences and floaty elements define the components of this deep approach to spacey music.

With Conscience follows heavy sub bass action over an opaque groove, reverberated textures and sharp percussive elements complete the equation.

On the virtual B side, Fraction relies on a punchier kick to set the groove while gray micro drones and breathing ambience put the spice. Synthetic sequences grow from below and float over the arrangement in a subtle manner. Hypnosis suitable for the most intelligent dance floors out there.

Last cut is the electric Flashback, again a deep and hypnotic approach on the musical components while the percussive ones appear wisely through the arrangement.

Produced in collaboration with The Advent, the compilation is highlighted by Fengler’s own ‘One Shot’. “From releases on Kombination Research and Internal right through to more recent releases on Klockworks, he is a master of his craft and I’m mega happy to have been able to work on a track with him for the V/A.” Together the pair has created a superb dub techno piece that is the perfect symbiosis of their vision of techno.
