The pandemic has been a long interlude to reflect on individual identity, civil responsibilities, present, past and future of ourselves and our communities. During the lockdown (both 2020 and 2021) I had few gears with me, I used my smartphone together with vintage tools to build an evasive world for my thoughts.
This EP plays with different technologies to rediscover that spirituality and poetry that will keep us human.

Recorded between Firenze (2020) and Città Sant'Angelo (Pescara – Italy, 2021).

'A Single Hope' is taken from 'Centres’ - the stunning new album from Vancouver-based vocalist / composer Ian William Craig, and his first release for FatCat’s pioneering 130701 imprint (Max Richter, Hauschka, Dustin O’Halloran, Jóhann Jóhannsson, etc). 

The signing of Craig marks something of a departure for 130701, as the label looks to adventurously expand its repertoire beyond the established post-classical palette of piano / strings / brass. Whilst elements recall the visceral, home-baked immersion of fellow Canadian outfit Set Fire To Flames (who kick-started the imprint 15 years ago), the hands-on customisation of Hauschka’s prepared piano or the tape-grain bleed of Max Richter, this is the first album we have ever released to substantially feature the voice and the song at its centre.

Ian William Craig is a trained operatic vocalist who combines his voice with analogue synthesizers, reel-to-reel machines, and faulty tape decks to create sublime cascades of unpredictable decay and beauty. His music engages with the operatic and orchestral, submerging them under a shifting palette of vocal improvisations, analogue tape hiss and billowing clouds of erasure. 

A stunning album that stands with a similarly unique sense of vision and integrity as the likes of William Basinski or Colin Stetson, ‘Centres’ will be available on CD, digital and in a deluxe gatefold double vinyl edition.

Ian William Craig will be embarking on his first ever UK / European tour in August.

None may be better suited to crafting eulogies than William Basinski. The composer who graced us with the melancholy masterpiece Disintegration Loops now turns his gaze to David Bowie. Today marks the one year anniversary of Bowie's passing and so we humbly premiere Basinski's tribute 'For David Robert Jones.' This hymn for the music hero will be released January 20th on Temporary Residence Ltd. Keep your ears on RBMA Radio because Los Angeles resident Basinski will soon appear as a guest on Frosty's weekly LAndscape program.

Jules is a new anonymous project. Through the use of different kind of technologies, instruments and attitudes, the project aims to create a mysterious and fantastic author, called Jules, who will propose to the listeners a dreaming atmosphere and persona far from reality, living in exotic and non-existent spatiotemporal dimensions. Jules is the spontaneity of the imagination and storytelling.

Adventures & Explorations (Volume 1) is the first chapter of the Jules's journeys, starting with his first trip and following with an imaginative diving in an oriental landscape. The concept of the album is developed with the intention of keep free every stylistic choice of the project. Jules also decided to leave the product slightly dirty and unfinished. 

Imagined like a musical diary of a young adventurer, Adventures & Explorations (Volume 1), is also an attempt to re-insert, in the ambient music, elementary structures of the pop music.
