Coming in as a final transmission from the Upon.You Records camp in 2k20 and a definitive statement straight from the studio of the labels creative mastermind Marco Resmann is his new seven track mini album „Past / Future“.

Inspired by and entirely crafted throughout the COVID-19 induced lockdown that held, and still holds, the entire nightlife industry captive alongside big parts of the music business both facing massive losses with a certainly uncertain future ahead the tracks on „Past / Future“ both reminisce and reflect about the state of an entire scene, how it used to and how – if, when and whenever... – it will be at a point humanity has overcome the global pandemic.

„Past / Future“ is Marco Resmann's musical statement at the end of a strange year in which electronic music was bereft of its natural habitat, dancefloor functionality was rendered redundant and forcefully displaced to a new reality of home- and headphone consumption and streaming sets.

Opening with „Save The Night“ for an intro the Berlin-based producer weighs in a clear message, repeated over and over again by various warped and twisted voices backed by soft, organic and somewhat dubbed out 4/4 foundation providing us with a memory of what once used to be.

The title cut „Past / Future“ featuring vocalist Tony Philips draws inspiration from both deepest DubTechno realms and track'ish, raw and ever filtered (Deep)House rhythm signatures for extended late night sessions whilst paying homage to the long, ever meandering tracks and structures filed under the flag of Intelligent Techno back in the days.

„Nevertheless“ sees Marco Resmann shifting gears to reach full on dancefloor mode, once again amalgamating a driving, yet stripped down and expertly filtered uptempo TechHouse vibe with a wide variety of DubTechno-leaning elements whilst opening up large scale realms with the tunes' beautifully hypnotic main synth line.

Riding the „Wave“ Marco Resmann explores a highly futuristic Sci-Fi Ambient realm of cold, score'esque qualities, fusing the vastness of deep space with warped modular bleeps and echoes of echoes of the Berlin School / ProtoAmbient movement with its histroy harking way back to the 70s even.
„Lost In Space“ is an excursion into the grey area bordering Broken Techno, Electro, Post- Dubstep and various incarnations of Bass Music in general, all glued together by a highly seductive swing, mutated scratches and raw, overwhelming vintage bass waves which turn this one into a timeless future classic within seconds.

The subsequent „Exit“ follows with even more swirling raw vintage bass greatness, backed by a seductive TechHouse groove, ever tweaked high frequency feedbacks and beautiful harmonies, all leading towards a lively, captiving main motif ready to take, at this time: imaginery, dancefloors by storm in combination with the tunes Trance-influenced string and pad sections.

Finally „Belief“ embarks on a journey towards a faint, yet existing silver lining at the horizon with its bubbly, ever sparkling synth cascades and emotionally touching chords backed by what is best to be described as the love child of TechHouse and (Neo)Trance for a closing.

With its debut release successfully under their belt, Alex Niggemann's Aeon label preps its second offering from promising Italian upstart Francys. Despite his young age Francys' discography already bears the names of some of the scene's most highly regarded imprints, having released cuts on the likes of Get Physical and Souvenir as well as remixes on Poker Flat. With two originals bolstered by a remix from Upon You boss Marco Resmann, the release kicks off with 'Universal Language', a growling slab of tech house that draws on chunky synths and well placed percussion to drive its killer groove. On the flip Francys again employs his groove laced synth approach on 'Memories' to build suspense and tension throughout. Resmann delivers a deep techno-inspired workout on 'Memories', and rounding off the EP 'The Fall' (digital only) sees Francys combine intricate synth riffs with his brooding techy approach.

It's the summer season and we're not entirely out of the woods yet. But as we're able to see a silver lining at the horizon a.k.a. a future of reasonably packed dancefloors we're ready to unleash another bomb cooked up by Upon.You Records' creative mastermind Marco Resmann over the course of the past months in anticipation of better and hopefully unrestricted times to come towards the of 2k21.

Opening with the title track „It's Not Over“ the Berlin-based producer approaches well technoid TechHouse grooves with masterful precision, combining a tightly shaped rhythm section with angelic atmospheres and a hovering, crystalline melody of truly time-defying beauty whilst the subsequent „It's Not Over *Edit“ focuses on a padded, spiralling, swirling and surely more muscular variation of the original cut for high-octane peak time sessons.

„You Dance“ sees Marco Resmann switching gears in the studio, going into full on House Music mode with this one. Pumping, sexy, seductive, deep as fuck and garnished both with dubbed out pads, intricate percussion variations as well as a well recognizable vocal sample this one works best in extended late night sessions played in what we'd call more intimate club venues jam-packed with real House Music connaisseurs.

Afterwards the so-called „Dub Tool“ gets down on a Beatdown tip for real slow groove aficionados with its raw, slightly clunky percussion section and seductive bassline in combination with echoes of – obviously – DubTechno and processed, outerdimensional vocal fragments for an extra layer of eerieness.

Finally, with „The Mexican“ Marco Resmann weighs in another late night cut and probably one of his most experimental dancefloor workouts ever, amalgamating washed out atmospheres, a deep Techno vision and an entire array of raw, polylayered synth FX and melodies that easly could originate from the most underground basement studios found in Chicago and / or Detroit.

The iconic club by the Spree celebrates 20 years with a mammoth 20 track compilation of new and unreleased tracks exclusive to the compilation. From Sasha to Anja Schneider, Henrik Schwarz and Adana Twins, right through to the ascendent names such as JAMIIE, Kristin Velvet, JOPLYN and Biesmans, the compilation is an exhilarating snapshot of some of the artists who have shaped Watergate’s sound; both via the label and through laying down unforgettable sets at the club over a two-decade period. 
 
The highlight heavy compilation charts a course throughout all the deep, dark, euphoric, tech and even pop-laden corners of house music. Henrik Schwarz navigates a classic course via the vibey ‘You Need Attitude’, while JOPLYN brings soaring melodies and arresting vox with ‘Lima’. Biesmans is in characteristic sleek form with the sparkling nostalgic-soaked business of ‘Basic Bro’, before emerging stars Mia Mendi contribute a driving electro jam ‘Astromech’.

Matthias Meyer & Ryan Davis enjoy a superlative history on Watergate Records and share another ace ‘Genki’, a shimmering, drama-laden piece that morphs into a tougher psy-laden finish. New Watergate Agency signing DJEFF crafts an uplifting string-laden ace with ‘Cloud 7, showing off his impressive musicianship along the way, while Hyenah make an essential contribution with the funky key-driven houser ‘Going in Circles’. Club resident JAMIIE shares the wicked ‘Echoes’, which is pacey and hypnotizing in equal measures and brought to life by colourful arpeggios and a latticework of key patterns. The project rounds out on a stunning note with ‘Tone Trails’, a lilting slice of electronica by Watergate stalwart Marco Resmann & Lee Jones, which is inflected with organic guitar and dreamy melodies.

About a year after the drop of his latest EP, "It's Not Over", Upon You co-founder Marco Resmann returns to the label with "Box In A Box". A three-track trip into his many-faceted headspace, crossing over elements of deep-diving techno, housey lushness and hair-raising electro, this new iteration from the Berlin producer beckons us onto hybrid futuristic horizons through a versatile palette and clinical, crowd-enslaving manoeuvres.

A quirky number tailored for spooky dance floor hoodoo, the title-track rolls and sways like a zombie in search for the next brain to devour. A concert of dissonant bleeps, bloops and FX- infused machine funk, coated with a hazy sauce of reverbs and processed pads, this one has Halloween heater written all over it. Entrenched in a dystopian atmosphere that sadly seems all too actual, "New World Order" ft. Tony Philips on vocals works a different seam of brooding house, both irresistibly suave and somehow dizzyingly ominous, laced with a tang of buzzing electro-rock. It also sends a message of positivity for all to listen. A humble call for peace when only warheads and bullets can be heard swishing past.

Topping the release off, trouble-brewing pumper "Koepenick" proves a definite WoMaD when it comes to filling your woofers to the brim with that hot sauce of knee-buckling breaks, altered piano stabs and orbital groove from outer space.

One hundred. Three digits. Finally we've made it and we're proud to announce that we've reached a milestone that every label aims for: the one hundredth release in a continous sequence of catalogue numbers. And what a journey it has been over the course of the past eight years. To celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event no-one less than Marco Resmann himself comes up with a dedicated 12“ single that's not only named „100“ but also comes as a special gold vinyl edition plus gold label prints and seethrough packaging that makes this record stick out amongst many in each and every vinyl lovers collection as well as in every DJ case. The original version of „Hundert“ is a big room monster of a TechHouse tune, providing maximum tension through scattered shakers, carefully arranged synth sweeps and long, strident build ups introducing dark, psyched out and proggy bass and midrange warps leading towards an ultimate climax whenever this tune is hammered through a club rig. On the flipside we see the 'Jubiläums Mix' of „Hundert“ following intense spiralling basslines all through the course of the night whilst layers and layers of ecstatic stabs and a continuous swell of uplifting, positive synths introduces crowds to high-octane levels of buzzing dancefloor energy. What a blast.

Marco Resmann returns to Watergate after a productive stint at the Red Bull Music Studios in Cape Town with two stellar cuts featuring local heroes Deep Aztec and Black Soda. Tack on a remix from the one and only Oliver Huntemann and another revision from Resmann himself and you have the Babylon Side EP. 

Teaming up to kick things off, Resmann, Black Soda and Deep Aztec embrace the cultural sounds of Africa's organic percussion and vocal prowess to create a tour de force tune perfectly balance between flashing club lights and vast open skies. Following suit, Abadala sees Marco again with Deep Aztec for a lush ride into deep emotional spaces by applying mesmerizing syncopated rhythms and spellbinding vocals ideal for deeper or more sentimental dance floor moments. 

Up next is Techno legend Oliver Huntemann who, playing after Resmann earlier this year at the 15 years of Watergate event at Warung Beach Club in Brazil enjoyed his set and the two hit it off, so logically he was asked to lend his trademark sound for a revision of Babylon Side and he twists the original into a heavy Techno belter complete with sinister sonics and fever inducing sirens. Wrapping things up is Marco Resmann himself with his own take on Babylon Sides and delivers a wild and twisted version of gargantuan low end and psychedelic shimmers of the original vocal resulting in a killer tune with a ton of attitude.

2020 marks the beginning of a new era for Upon You Records. Celebrating our 13th year in the business with a quite a few forthcoming specials over the course of the year as well reaching the magical mark of the 150 single release on the label it is about time for label founder, A&R and overall creative mastermind Marco Resmann to take over again with a stunning new four track single that's about to define the label sound for the future. Here it is, the „Caelum EP“.


Setting off into the journey with „Lilium“ we see Marco Resmann digging deep into raw, muscular and slightly Acid-influenced Tech territories backed by busy shakers and melodic, all embracing bass waves  as a captivating foundation for beautifully intricate, crystalline melodic layers, complex, shrieking additional modulations as well as tender, Trance-resembling pads for an athmospheric addition.

Following up is „Lux“, a tune exploring the deeper side of Marco Resmann's musical work, meandering in between tripping TechHouse and Intelligent Techno with its stripped down, yet distinct main motif, trembling low end warps able to shake up Drum'n'Bass floors even and overall hypnotic attitude best experienced in lightless, humungous underground venues for a reason.

With „Septem“ the Berlin-based producer and label head is providing more of a muscular TechHouse stomp garnished by a short, ever looped sawtooth bass motif and more hovering, ethereal atmospheres which are about to turn the tiniest, most shy and sensitive fairy into a full time raver even before quirky bass warps, twisted rave signals and spaced out sweeps are unfolding to great effect on the dancefloor.

Finally the title track „Caelum“ is bringing forth the most brooding, technoid vibe on this four tracker. Using and abusing short, razor sharp hi-hats, continuous low-end rolls and large scale space subs we see Marco Resmann at his very best in terms of shaping more heavenly atmospheres, gauzy string arrangements and jingly sonic cascades which just seem to have come down to earth from the mighty heavens.

Marco Resmann (Upon.You Berlin) Biography

Berlin. The mid 90s. The home and the heart of electronic music with its flourishing scene embracing all kinds of genres from Techno to House and beyond, with tapes on circulation, regular radio shows and an annual climax named Loveparade.

Brought up on this wide ranged diet of electronic sounds Marco Resmann started to work on what should become his profession of the future. Led by his neverending love for House Music he stepped up on stage, eventually started to promote parties and built his Audiogain studio where he continuously honed and refined his production skills on analogue gear.

Soon this steady work paid off in form of a first release on Martin Landsky's Intim Recordings as well as other highly acclaimed 12“es under his former artist alias Phage. Around this time in the mid-noughties Marco Resmann also became part of the production force named Pan-Pot which redefined the trippier side of Minimal Techno in these days. 

Apart from these projects, it was another fruitful collaboration that was meant to last. After meeting and immediately clicking with Norman Weber they started to DJ together on a regular basis before they joined forces in the studio, establishing their project Luna City Express as a main project of Moon Harbour Recordings with numerous EP's, Remixes and a widely praised album named Hello From Planet Earth, all of them providing tasteful, open minded House Music from Germany.

Backed by this experience and an excellent reputation as a DJ Marco Resmann joined the world famous Berlin-based Watergate club as resident in 2006 and has played countless nights in this hallowed space ever since as well as graced the tenth anniversary volume of the Watergate Mix-CD series with a flawless tour de force ride through his personal club favorites and anthems in February 2012 – a mix that can be considered a milestone in his remarkable career so far. 

As solo producer his discography includes acclaimed remixes and releases on imprints like Watergate Records, Upon.You, Poker Flat and the Brazilian imprint Warung Recordings, all of which are serving a unique fusion of House and Techno with a recognizable twist and a love for detailed, complex arrangements.

But there's even more to Marco Resmann than being the expert producer who fully masters his craft and DJ who is playing out to devoted crowds on a regular. Hosting Upon.You label nights at Berlin's famous Panorama Bar for six years has played an essential role in Marco Resmann's approach towards extended DJ sets with whom he pleases crowds all over the globe – from German festival sites like Fusion and Melt! to internationally renowned venues like DC10, Upon.You showcases all over Europe or the big 20 Years Watergate Brazil tour which took place in Brazilian superclubs like Surreal Park, D-Edge, Cultive and many others. Not to mention upcoming tours in Australia, Mexico and, again, Brazil where he is greeted by an especially dedicated, loving followership whenever he touches down in this part of the world.

As co-founder of the Berlin-based Upon.You Records, one of the major forces in the international club scene since 2007, Marco Resmann has been spotting upcoming talent and consistently invested dedicated, straight-up work in the house he and his labelmates have built.

With his most recent release „Box In A Box EP“ which will be released on his own imprint end of November - it's quite right to say that Marco Resmann is going stronger than ever, armed and fully equipped for an amazing 2023 to come. Watch out!
