"Eurydice Ascending" is the story of a love that transcends the planes of existence. It is a reverse Orpheus' myth: in a distant future, a woman passes away but immediately persuades the Gods to establish a communication channel and deliver astral technology to the Earth, in order to bring her partner to Hades.

Magnetic Tripole

"Dawn of Perceptrons" narrates Rosenblatt's early experiments with artificial neural networks. The song is filled with clips of interviews to scientists registered in the 60s, The funny part is that they sound like they were recorded in 2023.

- In the 1950s and 60s, scientists built a few working Perceptrons, as these artificial brains were called
- To explore the mysterious problem of how the brain learns
- This Perceptron was simply given lots and lots of examples, and it is able to successfully distinguish male from female
- It has learned
- While promising, this approach to machine intelligence virtually died out

- What really worries me today is what is gonna happen to us if a machine CAN think?
- Oh it's a very hard question to answer. A few years ago I'd say it was very far fetched. Today I don't really know. I suspect if you come back in 4 or 5 years though, SURE they will

- While most computer scientists saw it as a mere number cruncher, a small group thought the digital computer had a much grander destiny
- The field became known as Artificial Intelligence

- I am convinced that machines can and will think
- I don't mean the machines will behave like man
- And I don't think my daughter will ever marry a computer!

- Being a general purpose machine, it could programmed to do things which in humans require intelligence
- We're just beginning to understand the capability of computers
- I don't think for a long time we gonna have problems distinguishing humans from robots
- But I think the computers will be doing the things the men do when we say they are thinking

- I confidently expect that - within a matter of 10 or 15 years - something will emerge from the laboratory which is not too far from a robot from a science fiction film

Dawn of Perceptrons

"Spacewreck" is an experimentation with Messiaen's Mode 3. Belonging to the modes of limited transposition, Mode 3 is an (artificial) musical scale that fulfills some specific criteria of symmetry. Specifically, Mode 3 uses the following intervals:  tone, semitone, semitone, tone, semitone, semitone, tone, semitone, semitone (T-S-S, T-S-S, T-S-S). As a consequence, it contains 9 notes: C, D, D#, E, F#, G, G#, A#, B. The scale only has 3 modes and 4 possible possible transpositions (i.e., C, C#, D, D#). 

The beauty of Mode 3 is that can be used to abandon full tonality, and freely explore an atonal yet suggestive sonic landscape. "Spacewreck" highlights the possibility of using major, minor, diminished and augmented triads of the same chord without any issues, and even to temporarily abandon the tonal center with the listener barely noticing the fact. The deconstruction of western tonality is here the starting point for a powerful space trip, where we find ourselves floating around the wreckage of the last human spacecraft.
