The follow-up to Strut’s acclaimed Dance Mania label retrospective ‘Hardcore Traxx’ from early 2014, this new installment places the spotlight on the raw, stripped back, hyper BPMs of ghetto house and the rise of the movement’s fresh generation of stars during the mid-‘90s including DJ Deeon, DJ Funk, Jammin’ Gerald and DJ Milton.

There have previously been a couple of occasions at which Los Angeles-based artist Ken Rangkuty (Keenhouse) contributed genius-like moments for Emerald & Doreen Records. Most prominently his re-working of go nogo’s „Things Ain’t Right“ produced an athmosphere full of suspense with skewed vocal tunage, minimalistic, impressionistic piano motifs and sparse drum-programming. This interpretation is a fine example of how Keenhouse successfully marries the worlds of traditional instrumentation and electronica. 
Having released his third full length record „A Future Past“ in January, Keenhouse propelled his approach to style in a series of songs that feature brass- and lush string-arrangements, live-drumming plus vocalistic traits of colloborators. This enriched formula has produced an album that more than ever introduces compositional talents of someone who can weld pop, classical romanticism and electronic playfulness together.

Having established an artist-roster which constantly exchanges talents in the guise of remix swaps,
Emerald & Doreen pays a tribute to the talented „Mr. Keenhouse“ in having some label-greats remixing „A Future Past“ almost entirely.

Netherlandish disco don Auxiliary Tha Masterfader is keeping the original dreamy and balladesque quality of „Time“ intact, though adding an extra-amount of synth-nostalgia. This is kitsch in the best sense, like driving with an open canopy into the sunset, reminiscing of a long-forgotten teenage love affair. 
Go Satta’s British Amtrack Version of “Evening Return“ reveals a stellar song-interpretation of the ethno-ambient-tinged instrumental you hear from Keenhouse. Moriah Nixon’s pop-lyrics add up to the band’s charming indie-pop vibe which they have become associated with. The euphony is highlighted with ethereal pad sounds and lean guitar arpeggios that conserve a shimmering character.
The West Coast-ish easy living streak of „Into Silence“ turned Rubberlips on to create a string-laden, funked-up nu-disco bounce. As the track is indulging in layers of synth- and violin-sweeps, the whole affair turns into a vivid jamming. It seems like there’s an endless sky of vibrant red and orange.
The first track released from „A Future Past“ stirred label-associates go nogo to have a „go“ on the remix-project. They eliminated almost every aspect of the celli-driven, rhythmic complex original „Argon Decibel“ and hooked-up the chopped vocal-line with some broad sleazy bassmotif. There are streaks of psychedelic guitar-licks, shades of percussion-delays and pulsating sine waves all over the place, so that you cannot really pigeonhole the stylistic approach, but that’s the way these Krauts artistically work. 
Haioka picked the introspective, wonderfully mastered piano-piece „Gravity“ from the tracklist and bathed the melancholic chords in quirky rhythms, vapour-like filtersounds and faint rewind-noises. Known for his tasteful balance of experimental and yet very tuneful compositions, the Japanese border crosser has delivered another Zen-like masterpiece.
The second interpretation of „Argon Decibel“ is delivered with straight-laced disco beat and a lot of appreciation for the original, since Keenhouse’s Sunlinxx records labelmate p e a c e Fire features all central elements of the playful original. This subtle funkiness combined with the strings, brass and empyrean vocals is a celestial event in the cathedral of slo disco.
The Elektromekanik Remix of „Into Silence“ is breaking the silence with a beefed-up Disco-House vibe which is basic for a track to lure the ladies on the dancefloor. The breezy track is keeping the easy-going feelgood vibe of the original alive, but shifting the attention from the chill of the melody-centered to the thrill of the groove.
Chilean’s prodigious Statickman, who has become the busiest man in the E& D Remix-canon, breaks his habbit of trimming the original with punchy synthpatterns.

Art flourishes when the freedom, flow and creativity intersect. Often a direct response to resistance, art transcends borders and the physical to allow transmission of the soul; emotion and consciousness. Be Yōkai, a collaborative project between three artists, represents these core values uniting music with art and the moving picture. At the convergent point between these three disciplines we find Be Yōkai, driven by rhythm and vibration, while delivering progressive, transcendent visual stimulation.

In this free zone they flourish, as their art flows out of them without a hint of resistance. It’s the kind of freedom that many artists strive to achieve with no pressure, no deadlines and no strict briefs to uphold. The notion of trust, encouragement, confidence in one’s approach is what we find with Be Yōkai. All three men have known each other for over a decade, and worked closely together during that time on several occasions. This foundation keeps their relationship strong and provides a comfortable layer upon which they are building an intriguing project.

Sebastian Mullaert, Douglas Holmquist and illustrator/animator Kristofer Ström are the three creative wonders who stand behind Be Yōkai. Each member of the trio has a longstanding relationship with their particular skill, as well as each other.

Sebastian’s musical endeavours have taken him around the world, both as a solo practioner and in the duo known as Minilogue, among other projects. Douglas an accomplished composer for film animations, advertisements and video games, as well as making club music. Kristofer, a world-renowned illustrator and animation specialist, who is also adept when it comes to making music.

From the very beginning, the group have worked in an unplanned, natural, organic way, exchanging music and visuals with each member contributing to the progress of each track and accompanying video. It’s a project that acts as its own catalyst, as the three artists contribute their respective talents to the final product, bit by bit, without having a defined goal or target.

In this way they allow for a smooth flow in their production process, which is crucial to their ideals. This is not a ‘hit-making machine’, nor is it a project that has any pre-conceived ambitions towards “success”. All three men agree that Be Yōkai represents an organic, intermittent working process that is not bound by the constraints of future pressures. With Be Yōkai the three men have a space to inspire one another and to be liberated from target-based composition.

It is the only way they can operate, with three separate lives and careers, they have to consider the dynamic and unpredictable flow of life itself. Attempting to control this wild beast is futile, so they work on the project as and when possible. Eventually there is the hope of taking Be Yōkai to the stage, for a concert style performance with live instrumentation accompanied by Kristofer’s mind-boggling visuals. This is something all three artists agree on, but it’s not something they are desperate for. It will happen, all in good time, as everything will if you trust enough in the power of being…

We are happy to welcome two outstanding artists in a collaboration on MFF MUSIC, Juliet Fox, one of the most multi-talented upcoming electronic music artists on the scene who already released on Suara, Toolroom and Cajual and Derek Marin who already worked for labels like Get Physical, Plastic City and Superfreq.

With using her own vocals, Juliet always creates a certain uniqueness in her tracks and so she does it once again on her and Derek Marin's new EP 'Roomers' on MFF MUSIC. 'Roomers' is a classical exciting tech house track that combines powerful 707 drums with catchy samples of Juliet's voice.
In his remix Alexander Aurel adds a groovy melodic bassline on top.

The second track on the EP 'Ride It Again' is a playful trip including a remarkable acid line, which comes up in the middle of the track. VONDA7's remix gives even more space to it with effects and synths lines flying around and creating a trippy dramaturgy.

Over the course of the last three plus decades, the German born DJ, musician and composer Marc Romboy has become synonymous with a soulful electronic music sound that has taken him all over the world. As well as releasing on only the most influential labels, from Innervisions to Cocoon and Kompakt to Senso Sounds, he is also the sole mastermind behind the influential Systematic Recordings label and has been since 2004.

Nowadays an album specialist, 2006 saw him release his debut album, the captivating „Gemini" whilst in 2017 Marc released his first listening long player called „Voyage de la planète“, a pure electronica album with classical music influence and later, in summer 2017 the live recording of his collaboration with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra called „Reconstructing Debussy“, in cooperation with Boiler Room hit the stores.

Despite being a key player for so long, Marc is still as relevant as ever and remains right at the sharp end of electronic music. Proof of that comes in the form of his DJ schedule, which takes him from Fabric to Womb and Berghain to Rex, as well as to not one but three separate Boiler Room shows. All three proved Marc to be a dexterous performer who never relies on obviousness or gimmicks, instead telling truly musical stories that place dancers right at the heart of the action.
