Ghost In The Machine - Breaking The Seal (Perc Trax)

@EtappKyle returns to Ostgut Ton with ‘Nolove’, a project encompassing a four-track EP, short film and forthcoming web exhibition focusing on Western Ukraine. Specifically, the music and artwork home in on the cities of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Chernivtsi in Bukovina, where Etapp Kyle grew up and developed his interest in electronic music.

Although now part of Ukraine, Bukovina had previously been part of Moldova, the Habsburg Empire, the Russian Empire, Romania and the Soviet Union. Its turbulent history and position on the border of Romania and Moldova have resulted in an extremely varied tapestry of cultural influence, as featured in the video for title track “Nolove”. There, youth, fashion, music culture sit side-by-side next to religion, violence and war – and larger political struggles.

The EP gives shape to the musical developments Etapp Kyle has made in both the studio and DJ booth since the release of 2017's ‘Alpha’, his latest 12" for Ostgut Ton. In contrast, Nolove's four tracks are minimalistic, detailed electronic ventures inspired by personal reflections on Chernivtsi and Ukrainian cultural identity. Forward-facing in rhythm and melody, the EP offers meticulously-produced leftfield dancefloor impressions of the region’s past, present and future.

Magna Pia makes a welcome return to the Soma family with his latest release, the Narcissist EP. As one half of the duo Cassegrain, Hüseyin Evirgen has been at the forefront of the European Techno scene for some time. Since starting the Magna Pia alias with Soma in the last couple of years, he has taken further steps to cement his place as one of contemporary Techno’s heroes. 

Title track Narcissist sets a strong pace as direct and fast paced drums lead perfectly into a jarring and catchy hook, blended together with straight up percussion and persistent drones. Next up, The Sun In My Disgrace lends itself to a more hypnotic feel as pulsating synths build steadily against a flurry of crisp 808 hats. Into The Flood Again closes out the EP as Magna Pia once again delivers on a trance-inducing trip complete with subtle sequences that ebb and flow throughout the track, building tension throughout.

After a ten EPs in few years on respected labels such as Clergy, ARTS, Mord and an acclaimed debut album on Skryptöm, young and promising techno producer Kmyle is back on the French label Astropolis Records with ‘Keroual EP’, 3 originals and a stunning remix from French veteran Zadig. A contemporary EP that embodies all Kmyle’s technical and elegant techno, energy and his singular melodic synth work.

First up, A1 with the eponym track ‘Keroual’, in reference to Astropolis’ setting, a beautiful trip to its fairyland and a large electronic universe, with emotive melodies and light chords. An enchanting meditative and dancing track, as well-suited for the dancefloor as it is for home listening.

Samy steps the tempo up on A2 with ‘Telegraph’ and falls into darkness, undulating slowly in an evil dance, with a tense melody, a rumble bassline and a hypnotic techno. A metallic tune that works on every dancefloor.

On the flip side, ‘Syncopa’ keeping the drive from A2, seems tailored for a huge night with a forceful kick and a booming energy on its introduction, rapidly caught by a dramatic, intense and sizzling melody, enigmatic atmospheres and euphoric chords. A big tune for a big floor with a hammering beat and a delicious dark groove.

French well respected producer Zadig ends the EP with a brutal and gloomy version of ‘Keroual’, under a Day is Dying remix, a wink to his hardcore project. An obsessful kick with a ravey '90s vibe turning violently the track in a stripped-back hardcore version and its intensity. Uncompromising and raw, quite cinematic at the beginning, slow-burning to madness. A pleasant chaos anthem dedicated to industrial atmospheres.

This new release from Astropolis Records is a perfect blend between old school rave culture, rock-solid tunes and a modern palate of techno, feeding a melodic and melancholic sensitivity.

For almost 25 years, Inigo Kennedy has been a synonym for raw, moody techno with an edge of darkness, suited for both the avid listeners and the dance floor. This new release on VOLTAGE Imprint, is an iteration of continuous development of his sound combined with its reinvention. "Arcadian Falls" brings 4 tracks to the table, that all embrace the same design language, but individually differ in form.

The common denominator is the use of melancholic soundscapes that hint to IDM in combination with a percussive layer, unique to each track. The final result: a contemporary work of Techno, that reminisces the past and looks into the future, signed by Inigo Kennedy.
