It was an absolute honour to play the closing weekend of Printworks in London...A dream come true.

I had the pleasure of opening up the Inkwells on the Saturday before the likes of Ivory, Jimi Jules, Anii, Francesca Lombardo and more.

This warm-up set was two hours of different styles of electronic dance music blended together from grooves to uplifting melodies, afro house and a few surprises in between.

Hello Everyone, and Welcome to our final exclusive Progcast of 2023. Strap yourself in for our last trip around planet progressive for this year. We've taken a short trip from the South of England, to the hallowed North ... Manchester awaits you, and the home of a DJ who has achieved so much in such a short space of time. Please make some noise for the Manchild!!


Manchild, AKA Daz Smith is a Greater Manchester based DJ who refuses to be pigeon-holed, due to him playing what he wants. Comfortable with playing at any time on a line-up, whether that be warm-up, peak or closing time, all the Manchild cares about is that the crowd have the most untold time. 

After only getting back into DJing in 2019, and after a very long absence for family reasons, he fell back in love with the more Progressive sound all over again. Daz quickly became resident for Manchester brand ‘Up Close And Personal Mcr’, indulging in breaks, melodic techno, indie dance and more; Manchild's versatility allows him to flit seamlessly between all of the above. 

Since 2019 he has shared lineups and DJ space with James Zabiela, Cristoph, Anthony Pappa, Jody Wisternoff, Marsh, Cosmic Gate, Grum, John 00 Fleming, Richie Blacker, Mr Sosa, Estiva, My Friend, Fehrplay, Marcus James (Renaissance), Dave Pearce, Diode Eins, Tommy Farrow, John Kelly, Dave Beer and many more at venues such as London's Ministry of Sound, EGG, the Steel Yard and Manchester's Stage & Radio and Joshua Brooks' legendary basement. 

Already in early 2023 he has supported and handed the decks to technical wizard James Zabiela at Mains Castle in Dundee for 'Music is the Answer', and he's done exactly the same for the mighty Cristoph, and Cosmic Gate when supporting them on the UK leg of their 'MOSAIIK Chapter II' World Album tour at Joshua Brooks. Daz not only handed the decks over to Cristoph but also played B2B with him for a little while too. 

With more forthcoming gigs TBA, the Manchild is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

It's safe to say that I have come out of retirement recently with a few gigs towards the end of last year and some more booked over the next few months. So I thought I would do a double promo mix. As a kid from the UK growing up in 1980s Manchester, I was privileged to live through the Factory records era and enjoy the booming music scene as It reshaped the city's image from 'dirty old town' to the global mecca of nightlife and creativity it is today.
While the warehouse and club scene was beginning to bubble away, I spent my early teens listening to mixtapes from the likes of Sasha (who began his career down the road and has curated the soundtrack of my life ever since), the DJs of the Thunderdome and Hippos (Jay and Moggy) and the legendary 808 State Show - at the age of 16 I was invited down to the Sunset studios to play a live  guest mix on the show and was booked to play my first club gig in the city, warming up at Parliament Nightclub.
I spent many years clubbing and DJing around Manchester and the City Centre, developing my DJ style taking influence from the DJs of the Hacienda, Bugged Out and Tangled and became hooked on the Progressive House scene led by Sasha, Digweed, Renaissance, Cream and the Global Underground mix series.
After a summer DJing in Cyprus in 1999, I returned to Manchester and held several residencies in bars and clubs around the City; Dry Bar, Joshua Brooks, South, the wonderful sweatbox where I'd spent my twenties bouncing, Tangled and more recently Soundcontrol.
I've been lucky to DJ with many of my idols such as Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff, Hybrid, Ashley Casselle.
30+ years on, now living in Cairns, Australia, I'm still hunting new sounds to share with anyone who will listen to this veteran of the bedroom DJ scene.
