Pirate Cutz Selectives Mix Series  - Dj Vital (House and Garage Classics)

Multi faceted and extremely accomplished DJ Paul French is no stranger to the genesis of UK Garage. His influence and contributions to the sound and scene across the globe are immeasurable. We here in L.A. had  been hearing this name, well before the internet. Thus, it’s a great honour to have convinced this legend to lend a little over an hour of his life to building this playlist, digging in the crates and delivering this tasty blend from his Analog Arsenal.  Yes, he’s a Gooner too!  Every tune on this mix was or shall be released in 2024. So there are plenty of new and exclusives bits for you to enjoy.

Mister French has been DJ ing  from the age of 14, through the 70's Disco era into the Jazz Funk and Soul- 80's.
Once Dance music split into different genres, he followed the US style house and garage vibe along with the London Underground Sound.

Paul managed a record shop named Millennium Dance, from 96-98 where he and partner Dave Biss released some tracks on their label-  MDance, Confetti Records and Mos Music. Paul’s been a staple on House Fm, Risk Fm and hosted numerous club nights, had played at Ministry, Club Aquarium, EC1, Bagleys, Chelsea FC ( boo) Babushca, Elephant and Castle, Leisure Lounge, Colloseum, Mars and Camden Palace as well as events around London and Essex until around 2002.

DJ PAUL FRENCH  the Producers Episode II - ALL VINYL GARAGE MIX

A deep ‘n heavy blend from a true purveyor. We welcome DJ Sykik { pronounced psychic } to the collaborative with this very late hour inspired set from his vaults. You’re in for a real treat. 

About the guest: 

Being in the scene from an early age Sykik picked up a set of headphones in 1997 .  Next to him,  friend @shade377 was his main dj connection and watching how he blended and chopped up 2 tracks was mesmerising.. 
It was the beginning of something grand.

Being a massive junglist from the early 90s, raving and living the jungle scene from near the start it was his passion to pursue djing , which landed him at local pirate radio station CHARGE 90.8FM  in late 97, which is where he delved deeper into underground House and garage after 1st hearing a suncity tape of karl tuff enuff brown in 1995.
Early 98  he found himself with a residency at a local night club called MONROS.

“Putting on a regular garage night through there I met a notorious local wheeler dealer by name of Micky Colby who used to put on an illegal barn rave once a month. I managed to get sets regularly and bumped in to quite a few djs and record label owners ,the likes of dj footloose hermit Jimmy from public demand . From there I started sending out tapes to club promoter's to get on line ups and got on a few iconic nights such as cream of da crop , hanky panky, love injection as well as regular pirate radio shows on various london pirates such as flava  fm , rinse fm ,de ja vu , y2k to name a few. 
As garage music got darker and grime evolved It was a natural transition for me with my jungle roots and loving the dark big basslines I was heavily involved in the birth of the UK grime scene djing for the likes of dizzee rascal , nasty crew and roll deep and being involved in grime nights such as beats 2 battle .. ultimately the DJING scene changed with digital equipment cdjs becoming the goto.”


It was only in 2018 that Sykik decided to bring his  technics and vinyl to his new home and life, thusly started up the Instagram page posting his collection, not aware there was a small handful of pages also posting vinyl. 

The turning point was starting a record label with a friend he met on Instagram named Rossy Cee .. They launched the original  PIRATE CUTZ and DANGER DUBS labels which were later sold. They’re credited with pioneering lathe cut, dubplate record label culture, offering  releases featuring music from different producers where the music was the focus , not who was behind it.  The small batch, limited pressings sold out within hours of the releases, and the rest is history. 

 “ I have since focused my time working with @damnrightproductions who are an original house and garage label launched  in 1997 who have recently come back in to the studio. We have been working on new music and cleaning up some original music made back in the 90s. The idea is to release these tunes and give the scene the original drp sound with a twist.  

This mix is a blend of real house and garage sounds for the serious connoisseur... ft some very special tracks that are currently unreleased and unheard.. some forthcoming material some classic mid 90s house and some brand new recently released house and garage . “

I am a Deep and Garage House music DJ/producer from the south coast of England with releases on labels such as Pirate Cutz, Amigo Dubs, Big Knuckle, Abstrakt Records, Friktion, Miffed Out, Maison, Foundations, and Selecta.

My DJ journey began in the 90s, starting with Hardcore and Breakbeat before finding my true passion in House and Garage. During the late 90s, I worked at a record shop, eventually becoming the head buyer for UK Garage, which allowed me to amass an impressive collection of records. My involvement in pirate radio, however, led to everything being confiscated—an unfortunate but memorable part of my story.

Despite the setback, my love for dance music never waned. I continued buying music and eventually gravitated towards soulful Deep House. After a hiatus, the lockdown period reignited my passion, and I dedicated time to learning music production. Since then, I have proudly released several tracks and have reconnected with the vibrant underground garage scene. I'm excited about future releases and the ongoing journey of my musical career.
