Marginalia welcomes more bubbling top-tier talent to the label with the release of its first ever VA compilation, ‘Bestiary Vol. 1’. 

Released worldwide on Friday, February 23, Marginalia’s ‘Bestiary Vol. 1’ VA features a total of seventeen unique productions from a selection of artists whose immaculate productions have become a mainstay in Elif’s DJ sets over the past twelve months. 

A term dating back to the Middle Ages – roughly translating to ‘an encyclopaedia of beasts’ – the first instalment of ‘Bestiary’ is  accompanied by a continuous mix of all tracks from Elif, as she welcomes an array of Marginalia mainstays and debuting talent to the label for an epic compendium of discerning dance floor cuts.

Joining returning artists Althoff, Jaffer and MANTi, are an incredible fifteen debutant acts – Ayan, Esin, Evade, I Promised Mom, Juan Gioffre, Mumboi, Mrqz, Rebrn, Sam Farsio, Samet Gunal, Sebastian Duarte, Snirco, Tenvin, Tito Azevedo and VALON & LERM – all of whom bring their own unique contributions to the first chapter of Marginalia’s ‘Bestiary’ VA series; a package which showcases some of the very finest interpretations of underground house and techno on the label to date.

Hailing from the Spanish mainland is a sound that’s resonating globally thanks to a select choice of producers that have been able to create their own path after years of honest and competent work. A notable character from that sub-culture of game changers is Marc Martinez Nadal, aka AFFKT, who consecrated a music career and has been a driving force behind a vivid & empowering sound that is refined by his drive for perfection. He feels deeply in communion with sounds that range from the most energetic hyper-glossy techno to the most detailed and innovative indie-electronica.

Having worked on coining the sound of this alias since 2008, it has been a plethora of sound, place, person & culture that has provided a platform for AFFKT to experiment with his output. BIOGRAPHY

With a love for music and technology, the decision to pursue a career in electronic music was not too difficult. Applying it to a traditional society, however, was the real challenge. 

His ever-increasing urge to become a professional DJ and producer, took Uncuoglu to what was then the heart of electronic music, London. 

During the day, he studied sound engineering and production at Londonʼs Media Productions. At night, he conducted field research in Londonʼs legendary clubs.

With Alican, they have set up a label and events company 'Isolate' which features their own tracks, tracks from the hottest artists in Turkey and around the globe, and tracks by respectable artists in the dance scene.

His latest releases are from Isolate, Innervisions, Afterlife and Multinotes.

The conceptual brainchild of Turkish-born, Barcelona-based DJ and producer, Elif @elifmusique, Marginalia is a new home for largely undiscovered electronic artists to express their unbridled creativity within a framework of absolute sonic freedom. Established as a platform to support, nurture and develop the incredible output of the producers whose music forms the backbone of Elif’s DJ sets worldwide, Marginalia represents a forward-thinking community that looks to discover and bolster the profiles of the hardest working – often least rewarded – individuals in the music industry; individuals without whom the scene’s ecosystem would collapse entirely.

A safe haven for the organic development and progress of artistic creativity
and intellectual collaboration, the concept of Marginalia itself dates back to the 11th Century and references the wildly inventive notes, markings, doodles and sketches made in the margins of medieval books and scriptures — a place where the human imagination was free to run wild.
