The Story Of Max

It's got lots of flavors, like up and down, top and bottom, strange and charm. You know they're always locked up in groups, so send in the troops for quark soup! In the time of the big bang, it was all a seething boiling broth, and when the soup pot stopped boiling, and the universe started cooling down, the particles came together to form the nucleus, at the heart of the atom, from quark soup!

Quark

Robin in the holly, your breast is speckled. You've left your nest for good, now the sky is calling you! Here comes Mom with a worm for you, perched on your branch just outside my window. Don't fly away! Now,  fledging hop - right into place - to receive another worm, then the waiting starts back up.

Robin

She is a Scientist. She is a Scientist. We can't remember her name. But she was there all the same. Lighting sparks in her brain, and shining bright like a flame. She is a scientist. She is a Scientist. We can remember her name. We can propel her to fame. We can light sparks in our brains, and shine bright like a flame!

Scientist

We'll build a temple for Temple, cause we think ideas are grand. And it can't be accidental, that our brains make different plans. It's complicated, but we must try to see the way we are so many brilliant stars.

Temple

Unicycle, uni stands for one. Why sit idle when you can have some fun? Riding down the street, I can not be beat. All the folks I meet, they're all staring at my feet. They all want to know, when is the next show? Not 'til tomorrow, how that fills them with sorrow.

Unicycle

Vin, vin, vin goes the violin. Boom, boom, boom goes the drum. Plink, plink, plink goes the piano. Strum, strum, strum goes the guitar. Tra-la-la goes the french horn.

Violin

Why do you think they did it? They did it 'cause they're built to aerate the soil. How do they even dig it? They dig it 'cause the digging goes deep down in their soul.

Worms

Earth, it spins upon an axis. That means it turns upon a straight line. The moon, the sun, the stars and all the planets spin upon their axis. Earth orbits the sun. That means it goes around the sun. The moon orbits the earth, and all the planets orbit the sun. And everything is turning, like a star that's brightly burning, or a mind that's always learning something new!

Axis

Sometimes I feel like I am a human yo-yo. Riding up and down like a toy on a string. People say "Hey! Stop being so dramatic!" But I can quote Shakespeare that the play is the thing!

Yo-Yo

The Child that hears the Buzz of Bees whose Spirits merge with sweet Honey attunes our ears to Spring. He boldly finds the Lowly Worm the Robin in her rush may spurn, upset by Winter's Fling. The Daylight spent like Licorice on Tongues Aglow with Innocence: the Night, a Curtain, falls; unfurling Grace whose hidden Rooms and Servants guard, against dour Gloom until kind Dawn shall call!

Buzz

Margo Lauritzen writes songs about worms and bicycles. She teaches at a preschool in Seattle and has written musicals for kids. Her latest offering is an abecedarian song cycle about science and nature called She is a Scientist!
