Worthy: Music To... Explore The Sounds of Bass and Smoke

If you’re anything like me, you need some serious, possibly clinical help getting up in the morning. If you and I have anything else in common, it might be that the last thing in the world you want to put on while thinking about trying to begin getting out of bed is dance music. Give me Boards Of Canada or give me snooze. How then does BoC turn into grinding your coffee beans, putting on pants, and feeling like your diem is in dire need of carpe-ing? 
This mix was made with these thoughts in mind. It starts off with the sounds to which I usually sleep— William Basinski’s Disintegration Loops. Following this, the first third is for assimilating into awareness. The next two thirds are for getting your pants on and moving your damn body. And then there’s Todd Rundgren because, well, sometimes I don’t know what to feel.

This is the twenty-fourth installment of the fixtapes presented by Solé Bicycles in association with Snowball Festival. A curated monthly mixtape series with the sole purpose to showcase our favorite artists' tunes that both inspire and move them. Vibe with us as you ride off into the future.

Growing up in the bustling music scene of London, Aaron Snapes championed old school hip hop, drum and bass, trance, and garage before house music eventually took over. Never one to get caught up in the compartmentalization of genres though, Aaron has a simple and easy guideline in the studio, “I just want to make fun, groovy music for people to dance to.” Further detailing his musical canvas with his imaginative music, Aaron keeps bodies movin’ and beats jackin’ as he returns to Perfect Driver Music for the On It EP out on December 8th.

“On It” will surprise you at the beginning of the extended player with its borrowed minor keys and will then delight you with an attention to detail that sprinkles percussion in triplet form overtop shuffling claps and snares. Up next is “Know You Better” whose bassline bounces like a guttural bayonet and then leads you to rising melodies that melt into detuned menagerie. On the remix tip, Treasure Fingers brings trouble and midrange bass with his edit of “On It” while Jay Robinson reconstructs the melody’s chord structure. Closing out the remixes (and the EP entirely) is Eyes Everywhere’s version of “On It” with a back-to-basics nature, impacting harder than one might first think.

Whether he’s bringing the space bass or vibing with the Amsterdam underground, for 2014 Aaron Snapes is
definitely on it.

The seventh installment of their acclaimed iTunes Dance Chart-topping series sees Anjunadeep showcase the label’s sound across two discs of cinematic house, techno and electronica, taking the listener on a sprawling journey through the deeper waters of electronic music. 

The first part of the double mix kicks off with beautiful electronica from label favourites and new faces alike such as Esteble, Dems, Solomon Grey, Jody Wisternoff and 16 Bit Lolitas, before burning slowly through exclusive new tracks from Yotto, Lancelot and Lane 8. Disc 1 closes with deep gems from label stalwarts Kahwe, John Monkman and Vincenzo. 

 Part 2 of the compilation moves is a sublime showcase of the labels deep dancefloor sound, beginning with gentle melodies from Croquet Club, Ryan Davis and Cubicolor, before trippy contributions from Dave DK and Maribou State blend darker atmospherics with warm lush melodies from Matthias Vogt, Dusky and Lancelot. New additions to the label roster Moon Boots and Way Out West lead us through mesmeric textures and hands-in-the-air moments to a fitting finale - Global Communication’s first new material in 18 years.

Anjunadeep 07 Mini-Mix

It is with great pleasure that we wrap up the first round of the Deep, Dark & Dangerous Collaboration Project. First things first, the standard was really high and left us feeling really good about the direction things are heading! 
Here's the final product, a mix of some of our favourite submissions, all made using the sample pack we provided at the start of the month!
