LOVE FESTIVAL - SWSH∆ - DJ Set - Super Wild Summer Hit ∆FTERHOUR

I began my MOYN closing set very unconventional with simply playing piano and singing a reimagined jazz tune - inspired by MOYN—to jolt the audience awake, perhaps even provoke them, and lead them on a journey inward, to the core of their hearts. The set unfolded as a vibrant tapestry of unreleased originals and timeless classics, spanning genres in a way that reflects my eclectic tastes - weaved into Vocals, Synths and Piano loops. 

What truly made this experience extra special was that, although the set was initially planned for 1.5 hours, the promoters and the energy of the crowd led me to extend it. This spontaneous interaction with the audience created a dynamic and memorable atmosphere, and with this recording, those fleeting moments are preserved and extended. My heartfelt thanks go to MOYN Festival for their trust and to Station Endlos for providing such an incredible stage.

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?
"Artistic expression is my mission. In every production, live set, and DJ performance, I tap into my entire musical repertoire, using my versatile voice and the drive to convey a full range of emotions through sound. My influences span from punk and hip hop to pop, electronic, and jazz, constantly circling back on themselves.
In 2006, after singing at afterhours, a singer introduced me to jazz, a genre I never thought I’d embrace. At the time, I couldn’t imagine becoming a DJ as a woman, so I started from the ground up—studying jazz vocals, performing with different bands, and diving deep into music production. I've also collaborated with dancers and experimented across different projects before founding MARIA Die RUHE in 2016, followed by my label RTTR (Reduced To The Root Records) in 2020. My latest release, WILDER (Release 49), is in the set and out now!"
 
✔️  What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?
"This mix is really special to me because it’s a live-recorded journey, moving from 136 to 116 bpm, with live vocals throughout. How did it come about? I got a call that started with: 'Hi Maria! We have something unique for you: how would you feel about playing a slot between 90s trance and downtempo?' I love a good musical challenge! A few days earlier, someone had told me my Maya calendar symbol: I’m the 'Shining Spectral-Colored World-Bridger.' That seemed like a perfect match for this slot! I shared that with them, we had a good laugh, and it all just felt right. We had so much fun, and I absolutely loved the experience! MIT Dir Festival is one of my favorite festivals, and those two hours are forever in my heart. I'm thrilled that I recorded this wild ride and that it's now being released on Afterhour Sounds."

What’s your favourite poison? The question hit me unexpectedly in a Los Angeles kitchen, my flatmate asked, and suddenly a flood of answers came. This song is a deep dive into the subtle, and not-so-subtle, toxins we let seep into our lives: substances, distractions, patterns, people. "Your Favourite Poison" explores the seductive pull of champagne highs and emotional lows, the masks we wear, and the madness we hide behind curated selves.
Fueled by raw lyrics and a hypnotic beat, it reflects on everything from self-sabotage to our hunger for more—more love, more power, more control. It’s a mirror held up to the quiet addictions we don't always name, but often claim. I wrote it for the part in us that aches, escapes, and still wants to feel alive.

This is my set from the Re-opening of Distillery Club Leipzig - warehouse floor – 31.08.2025. Cheers to a bright and fulminant future! I’m honored to have been part of this experience with all my heart and soul.

The set intro “Who We Dance With” is a love letter to dancing and the people who accompany us — to the bold, the wild-hearted, the dreamers, the believers, and the megalomaniacs. It’s all about connection and shared experiences that become never-ending, transformative memories like this. I believe in the power of music and the dancefloor as an expressive home for everybody, equally. 

I wrote the set intro “Who We Dance With” on top of the track “Morning Privilege” by Øyvind Morgen, which will be released very soon. It also contains 4 unreleased tracks of mine that will come out soooooon - plus of course my actually most favorite bangers as well as some historical tracks that made my way.
