FREQUENCIES is a crowdsourced audio/visual mural that features the sounds and sights of Allston-Brighton, straight from the people who live, work, and play in this vibrant Boston neighborhood. By Allison Tanenhaus and Maria Finkelmeier, the work will be beamed into the street-facing gallery windows of the Harvard Ed Portal—and reverberate off the sidewalk—from November 2021 - February 2022, creating a nightly pulsating performance for all. 

FREQUENCIES is commissioned by the Harvard Ed Portal and supported by a Transformative Public Art Grant from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, with additional support from LuminArtz.

A LINE THAT TERMINATES AT THE PRESENT is Maria Finkelmeier’s debut album as a composer. With years of experience as a performing percussionist - behind a marimba, ensemble, or orchestra - she now explores her voice up front. Stemming from a background in improvisation, her work grows organically from a single theme, melodic idea, or physical setting. This album represents the variety of percussion-based music she’s created, from marimba and vibraphone quartets, to improvisations featuring electronics, and high energy, pop-inspired duos.

Maria Finkelmeier - A Line That Terminates At The Present - 01 - Without Voices

Named a “one-woman dynamo” by the Boston Globe, Maria is a percussionist, composer, new media artist, and Associate Professor of Creative Entrepreneurship at Berklee College of Music. Obsessed with making noise, she transformed Fenway Park into a percussive playground and turned the Roebling Bridge into a sound and light instrument. She's used AI to investigate gender bias through music, flipped a bus into a mobile electronic bucket drumming program, and performed at iconic global venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Her cutting-edge work has been featured in the Boston Globe, National Parks Magazine, Boston Magazine, Vulture, SunSentinel, I Care if you Listen and on WGBH, WBUR, and CBS. She is the Founder of the experimental music, art, and technology studio, MF Dynamics, and holds a BM from The Ohio State University and MM from the Eastman School of Music. She is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
