03- Palace On The Hill- Maria Grapsa Sextet

'Dialogue in' includes a series of live recordings full of improvisation, spontaneity and musical dialogues. This project attempts to speak about the importance of being on the moment, present with ourselves and each other, communicating in a genuine way whilst creating music.

With the cross-disciplinary project, Maria Grapsa, pianist & composer, hopes to open a dialogue in between artists, musicians of all kinds and audience. 

Why are we playing music? What are we trying to succeed?

The participants in these recordings are playing together for the very first time. They are taking the time to meet each other musically and connect in a special way. This is why we love improvising. The music allow us to have a free, genuine and respectful dialogue in between us.

Live Recording Sessions  feature the young artists : Ashley Blasse, Matthew Kilner, Georgia Lee, Tom Pountney, Aurora Rays and Louis Stringer. 
All tracks were recorded, mixed and mastered by Niccolo Conti in Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Studios.

Knives Out- Feat. T.Pountney

Piano song, improvisation and modern jazz writing are the means that Maria Grapsa portrays her journey through the interior. As a classically trained, explorative jazz musician, she empowers her sextet to flow free form through original compositions; steam hard in tenor jazz and intricate, emotionally-charged cinematic ballads. Maria’s Greek roots and folk, middle-East, Latin influences, all meet the jazz tradition in a unique way.

Each performance unites a band at the edge of unfolding discoveries and projects shapes that are round and together – as a unit they defy dynamics from pin drop knife edge solo performances from the horns to roars from the rhythm section. Maria’s band is already making an impact in prestigious venues such as Southbank Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Pizza Express Live Soho. Watch out for the album landing summer 2023.
