Chinese born RUI HO (@ruiho)has been based in Berlin for the last four years, but even though she's built a reputation as an eclectic DJ, she doesn't make the formulaic four-to-the-floor techno you might expect. Rui's first release was in 2016 on Chinese label Genome 6.66Mbp and from the outset her sound was something totally unique. She referenced Chinese melodies, fusing them with energetic European club music, manifesting a truly original take.

Brendan M. Gillen is part of the history of Detroit as much as the acclaimed superstars. Through a network of pseudonyms such as Ectomorph, BMG, Flexitone, Existence And Uniqueness Of Solutions and others he wrote pages and pages of history. Gillen will play this year’s Dekmantel Festival By Night as part of the No Way Back showcase, featuring Bryan Kasenic, Carlos Souffront, Erika, and Derek Plaslaiko. The mix was recorded at a The Bunker Limited night at Trans Pecos.

“In the lead up to the due date for our No Way Back sets, I fell ridiculously sick with the flu. I barely was able to get out of bed for about 6 days. As soon as I was able, I rushed to my friends Will & Sarah Joy's flat here in Berlin to lay down this recording. There wasn't much time to prepare, so I just picked the tracks I wanted to use, and as the great Claude Young once said "I just turned on the machines and they told me where to go!" On my mind the whole time was the utter turmoil going on in the U.S, maybe even more than what we were living through here in Germany, which heavily influenced my selections of music. I knew for sure that I wanted to open with that nthng track, but the decision to play "This Is America" at the end was made only a minute or 2 before I played it. I had wanted to play it 2 years earlier at NWB, but chickened out for some weird reason. Now felt like the perfect time. Magically, it matched the energy of the global protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd only about 18 hours later. The note I wrote at the end was also straight from the heart. At the time, I was betting we would all be descending onto Detroit for Memorial Day 2021. Unfortunately, I don't know if that is something to bet on now — only time will tell, I guess. Until then, enjoy this set (and all the others that I.T. is releasing from this broadcast!) and hopefully we will see each other safely on a dancefloor somewhere and sometime in the future — the sooner, the better in my opinion. For valentine´s special we have invited the super talented Ciel to join us for our next mix in her own words: 
In honour of Valentine's Day, I decided to make a mix that's all about love. Love that's flirty and sweet, sometimes shy and sometimes passionate, sometimes tumultuous and sometimes ecstatic, sometimes innocent and sometimes sensuous, love that's fun, joyful, and open-hearted. Of course everyone has their own definition of love music, and what they tend to associate with love is usually dependent on the style of music they share with their past and present partners, and so is very personal. For me I tend to think nothing is more romantic than soul, r&b, and jazz. But since this is a dance mix, I selected music for the dancefloor that I consider the descendants of these styles---house, hardcore, and UKG. And just so I can be extra cheesy, every song talks about love explicitly. This is my first year since I started touring that I'm actually home for Valentine's Day, so I plan on enjoying it with my two loves—my bf & our cat. :)
