One Last Look At The Earth

This is a premiere on my channel: the first guest mix for Sai! 
SundayStripFM crossed my way recently and I recognised his deepness in his set buildings. It came into my mind that it would be nice to introduce him to you here on my platform. So here we are!

He used to be a Techno DJ under the name "Laban" from the 90ies on and was also working at the (now closed) Hardwax record store in Saarbrücken where he met other DJs and producers   with whom he later collaborated with, like in  b2b sets wether it was in clubs, at festivals or in radio shows - allways rooted in the underground of Germanny's rave scene.
 
In the last years he expanded more in calmer gengres and started to create mixes to present a new side of himself musically as a DJ(like before mostly on vinyl). 

With this selection he presents his love for Ambient sound scapes and restrained Dubtechno vibes, selected in a very careful way for details.

My entry for The Allegorist-Desired Changes-Remix Competition on Metapop 2021. Since Metapop is closing end of April 2023, I upload my remix here.

My text on Metapop:
"It was a lot of fun. Thank you very much for your great tracks and this great opportunity, Anna! 
It quickly became clear to me what it was going to be: picking up on the groove part of the second part with the aim of making it really take off.
To start with, I took 2 tones from the "weird vocals", built a loop out of them and sometimes added additional harmony tones. I proceeded in a similar way with the noise track: removed a small part, looped and sidechained against the kick so that it breathes and pulsates. Conga track also taken a little and transformed into a new loop.
For the bass I took over the four-note descending bass line, stretched it twice and added a secondary note to the last note. The rest was done by itself: the phenomenal vocals (3voices) float above my straight beat at 130 bpm. The I added in-house acid line, own lead sounds, a small ascending piano motif - that's about it :)"

A few words to the complete mix version: The two tracks, which I had chosen as intro and outro to my otherwise more toe-tapping drum & bass mix, not only provide the framework for the mix, but also give it its name and, I hope, make it feel like a story told with music.
Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner had worked in a project with homeless youths in London and published a photo and music project with them called "Night Jam". In their lyrics, which I found very touching, the young MCs tell of their experiences and feelings on the streets at night.

The rest of the mix - hopefully - speaks for itself. Sometimes I took the liberty of layering tracks - exclusively - on top of each other: the two minimalist tracks by Mark System - The Earth and Body Model - Test Pilot offered themselves, as to my ears the newcomer duo Body Pilot have let themselves be inspired by System. Or ASC - Starkwood + DJ Zinc - Hear No Evil. As a third and fourth layer - at some points simultaneously - Paradox - Toprock and Deba & Paradox - Swirl.

MARIE WILHELMINE ANDERS is a wanderer in music. Musically and instrumentally trained since her earliest childhood, she received her first technical training as a sound engineer at GDR television. She played keyboards in a punk band in the East Berlin underground music scene, created field recordings and sound installations, studied classical composition at the University Of The Arts Berlin, and graduated as a music teacher at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. In Stuttgart she was an active part of the experimental improvisational scene playing piano as well as a set of electronics. There she founded two ensembles, "Unterton" and "Hammerhaus", both of which brought together groove and free-flowing improvised forms from different perspectives. Additionally, she initiated and directed “momentmusik"—a concert series for experimental and improvised music, visual arts, performance and spoken word, which established the connection between her ensembles and the national and international scenes. 

In 2005 she ended her concert activity and moved back to Berlin. Eager for new forms of expression, Marie learned to play the electric bass, and began producing her music using Cubase and publishing it under the pseudonym Marie Wilhelmine Anders. After discovering the poems of the Scottish poet, Robert Louis Stevenson, she began to develop her new electronic musical language incorporating and building upon his verses. Marie's conceptual thinking and her craft as a modern classical composer allow her to congenially translate his lyrics into a modern electronic language, influenced by techno, electronica and ambient music. Between 2018 and 2021 she released 4 albums which built upon each other and referred to Stevenson’s work (including a remix album of her tracks), and more will follow. As a producer, Marie likes to work alone and independently. She is also increasingly in demand as a remixer.

Her best friend writes: "Marie works her way out of all restrictions and experiments with styles and musical directions.Thereby she adapts formal means and creates something very much her own out of it. As always, I am impressed by her accuracy in everything she does. Marie is the secret Phoenix among my friends, who every time after it has turned to ashes, puts on a new and even more splendid plumage. I have great admiration for her consistency, uncompromising artistry, unconditional honesty, absolute fidelity and loyalty. One speaks of the Phoenix as an eternally youthful bird. And he can fly.”
