Simina Grigoriu bridges the heavy and the melodic realms of techno for her inaugural EP on Kuukou Records. An experienced globetrotter, Simina is known for taking great inspiration from her travels, so it comes as no surprise that the name she’s chosen for her own label, Kuukou stands for “airport” in Japanese. 

Ninja Princess provides an exotic sound exploration, setting off all the elements from the get go. We’re emerged into a vibrant melody with a progressive bassline, taking us from luscious vocals to winding synths within a matter of seconds. Alfred Heinrichs closes up the release with another minimalist and murky reconstruction. Keeping the subtle melodiousness at bay through harmonic chord arrangements, Heinrichs brings out the late night club appeal of the initial track, making for a perfect dancefloor banger.

Whether treading into electronica with the album's existential bookends; "Interiors" and "Last Transmission", or flexing big-room techno muscles on "The Day the Earth Stood Still" & "Rigel", there is an indelible fingerprint throughout the 11 tracks that merits continuous listens to reveal its multi-layer depth. Filled with cinematic and cosmological references throughout, what makes "Friends, Lovers, & Other Constellations" truly unique is that it is not merely music for a clubbing experience, but something more, something akin to a musical mission statement; To prove that there is more to dance music than just a 4/4 beat, cliche drug references, and party themed vocals. From Casey Gerald's stirring sermon on "G.O.D. (Gospel of Doubt)", to the searingly cynical "Corpse Reviver Number 1", this debut album is wholly visceral on a musical and thematic level.

Having established a firm reputation for creating standout productions since the release of the now iconic "Tarantula", Pleasurekraft's musical evolution has moved towards a much tougher, atmospheric blend of melodic techno in recent years, comprised of big room drums, soaring breaks, and smart, unpredictable vocals. Premiere: Joyhauser 'Galaxy Phase'

Gatex is a matchless recording, a proper piece of the new Millennium. When it first came out on Potential as part of The X EP back in 2001, it immediately crossed over the whole EDM specter. And it became even bigger after the re-release on Tiesto’s Magik Muzik the year after. It was a favorite of techno, trance and house deejays and one of the rare outstanding records that didn’t ever get successfully copied, as it is a real freak of nature. Namely, Umek’s studio at that time was very basic and he couldn’t sync in all the elements that he wanted in this tune, so he released unfinished record. Thus it was a real surprise how big it became without the essential of every big EDM tune – the bass drum. Almost a full decade later Umek returned to the Gatex blueprints, this time equipped with proper studio technology and finally completed his masterpiece in the spirit of modern times. Or to put it in the words of his friend Carl Cox: "When the original version came out – it was amazing. And still is amazing. And it should never be touched. But Umek has reworked it. And the new version is fantastic. So when I’ve heard it again I just loved it. I kind of missed it when it went away and he’s brought Gatex back into the 21st century with a fantastic mix."
