Heist welcomes rising star of the French House scene Marina Trench to the roster with a stunning release full of classic house cues across four warm & deeply grooving house cuts. With only a handful of releases on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted (2019) and Wolf Music (2020), the young Parisian producer is only just getting started.  And as far as starts go, this release on Heist will definitely open some eyes & ears across the house scene. With her elegant and soulful sound both firmly rooted in classic deep house as it is contemporary, Marina showcases a mature sound that’s rarely seen with emerging producers. With a smart choice of samples, beautiful original vocals and smooth pads, Marina layers her tracks effortlessly into warm compositions that work just as well in your living room as in any sweaty club.

Opener ‘Sunrise’  is a smooth affair with pads oozing in and out and a faintly recognizable and definitely catchy choice of samples. An open electronic bass gives the track a serious tone, but it’s the melancholic chords that make you doze off reminiscing the days of endless festivals in the sun. ‘Carry on’  is built around classic house stabs with cleverly layered arpeggios and textures giving the track it’s depth. The main attraction here is the trumpet solo by German wunderkind Christian Altehülshorst.  On ‘Over There’, Marina layers her own vocals on an infectious house groove, with closing track ‘Wake up’ featuring the emotive vocal of French Algerian artist Sabrina Bellaouel. The latter cut evolving around a LFO’d pad and a minimalist groove, giving the vocals all the space to shine in a track that could easily be the one in your set that sets the room on fire.

Premiere: Marina Trench - Carry On [Heist Recordings]

Paris-based artist Marina Trench has been on a steady upwards trajectory over the past few years, her debut material surfaced on the esteemed DJ Deep helmed Deeply Rooted imprint and further releases have come via WOLF Music and Dam Swindle’s Heist since. Here, Marina steps out on her own for her first self-released EP while welcoming some friends in on remix duties.
Opening the release and perfectly setting the tone is ‘Something’, a hypnotic introduction fusing airy pad swells, modulating percussion and vocoder style vocals. Title-cut ‘Free Mind’ follows, embracing Trench’s classic silky smooth aesthetic via stuttering chord sequences and robust swinging drums running alongside gritty stabs and airy vocal chants.
‘Overcome’ is up next, employing a downtempo aesthetic with jazzy broken drums, wandering chords and twinkling keys throughout. Berlin House maestro Cinthie then reworks ‘Free Mind’, bringing an uplifting piano driven touch to the original before London’s Anna Wall takes things down a contrasting route with her take on ‘Free Mind’, opting for gritty percussion, dubbed out stab swells and elongated sub bass tones.

Her productions on Wolf Music Recordings, Deeply Rooted, Heist Recordings, and remix projects for Paloma alongside Gerd Janson, have helped put her cultured, elegant and mature sound firmly on the radars of the most discerning of tastemakers. Her very first EP caught the attention of subterranean hero DJ Deep, who signed the music to his seminal Deeply Rooted imprint, calling up none other than house luminary Kerri Chandler to provide his remix magic.
Going forward in exquisite style, Marina releases her second outing on her own Sweet State imprint. The label launched in 2021 with her ‘Free Mind EP’ with remixes from Cinthie and Anna Wall. Next up on Sweet State is Marina’s ‘Imperméable en été ’ that is sure to further cement her position as an artist in the ascendancy.  On this long-awaited release Marina Trench delivers three originals cuts, that range from the colourful opener and nu disco lovely ‘Ose’, co-composed and performed with fellow Parisian producer Hugo LX, to the classic house vibrations of the club oriented ‘L’Orage’, via some pop infused downtempo vibes from the heartfelt ballad ‘Hirondelle’. With these three new compositions, Marina shows her shimmering musical versatility and aims to blow some fresh air into her own sonic galaxy.

We have been keeping a close eye on Marina Trench since her brilliant 'Over there' EP landed via Heist Recordings last year. Now she is back with her Imperméable en été EP via her own excellent Sweet State label.

Our premier from the EP is L'orange an absolute house heater which beautifully merges classic piano vibes with a touch of French flair. Its a beautiful combination which delivers a track that will take dancefloors by storm over the rest of 2022 and well into the future.

Parisian girl about town Marina Trench is dropping some very impressive moves on her Sweet State imprint, the label created to house her own recordings and those of other highly talented individuals thus far. ‘Imperméable en été EP’ dropped the other side of Christmas and is followed up by a set of remixes that will make the boys blush. Gerd Janson grabs hold of ‘Ose’, the track created by Marina in collaboration with her good mate Hug LX. Janson brings in a whole new bassline that dances around Marina’s own vocal (which incidentally is peppered throughout the entire EP).  Man of the moment Earl Jeffers treats listeners to a deeper house groove that sits at the intersection between UK house and afro house,  burying the listener in his vibrant and flamboyantly colourful perspective. Closing out is another one to watch on the Paris house scene, Tatyana Jane, who does something so completely unrecognisable to ‘Hirondelle’.  If this doesn’t slap you in the face and say sit up and listen, I don’t what will.

Marina Trench is back with a series of impressive remixes of the recently released ‘Imperméable en été EP’ on her Sweet State imprint.
Kicking off is one of the most legendary artists of this time, Gerd Janson, with his instantly recognizable touch. Gerd delivers an ever so classy version of ‘Ose ft. Hugo Lx’ that keeps the sultry sample of Marina’s vox present, while he composes a whole new bassline around it that leads the charge.
Then comes a remix by very the talented Earl Jeffers on ‘L’Orage’. His deep and down groove lead style sits at the crossroads of afro and UK house. Adding new pads, synthwork, and solid bass, Earl perfectly reworks the track for the club and introspective moments alike submerging the listener into his colourful and vibrant world of deep house.
Tatyana Jane's brilliant effort rounds off the trio, an emerging talent from France who makes a solid mark with her production skill once again through her rerub of ‘Hirondelle’. Bringing a whole new vibe that blends influences of breakbeat to techno to afro-futurism. Marina's vocal is on repeat throughout, bolstered by building drums that carries the dancer away in a beautifully crafted sonic whirl.

Absorbed by house music from an early age Marina Trench is already proving herself to be a humble, yet highly talented, force to be reckoned with. Waterside EP is case in point. The title track is summertime ecstasy through and through. Undeniably catchy and packed with a club-ready punch, Trench sets off at pace, revolving the track around a pinging techy bassline as layers of percussion, echoing pads and delicate vocal refrains from Marina herself glide on through. Peak time, earworm business that bangs.

Get up, ‘Get In’. Moving through the downright ethereal to some tough, dancefloor darkness. Sweeping pads and glitching arps ease you in before the breakdown leads to an unleashing of brooding bass chords and reverberating top end counterparts that marry with a mean acid bassline. Tough, tactile and firmly focused on the club.

On the flip, ‘Train Call’ is a chopped jazzy deep house roller. Heavyweight piano stabs intertwine with deft twinkles as crisp hats dance around thumping kicks before ‘Straight’ eases you off into the depths of the night. A sumptuous little slice of deepness - meditative, trance-like calls from the ocean and pensive pianos provide a perfect soundtrack for the early hours.
