‘Searching’ is a 5 track extended play exploring the polarities of ecstasy. This record is an acknowledgement and homage to the searcher within me. Searching for myself, searching for truth and purpose. Learning to navigate light and dark and the trivialities of life. These sounds and ideas have guided and consumed me, equally. PREMIERE: Soul Wun - Limitless [SlothBoogie]

San Francisco based LuRob aka Luis Roberto makes a welcome return to Piston with his Slippery When Wet EP. We last saw Luis back in March 2013 and since then he has continued to grace the finest House establishments as well as releases across various labels.

First up we have the Original Mix of Twin Peaks Lounge which intros with a beautifully filtered funky groove filled with lush tones and grainy guitar licks. The track lets loose with a fantastic punchy kick and shuffling percussions that will definitely get floors moving to the groovy rhythms. The track goes deep with a wonderful pulsating bass that contrasts perfectly with the brighter elements as those funky riffs remain prominent. The track also boasts classy melodic sequences which are joined by some brilliantly crafted drum arrangements. Top notch stuff from Luis and a definite must have.

Dave Dubbz provides the remix on Twin Peaks Lounge and goes right into the heart of deep house grooves. We saw Dave on Secrets Of The Trade 2 back in 2013 with his track Funky Thrills. Dave has seen a multitude of releases across many labels he also remixes many artists including JR From Dallas and Joss Moog. Here the track gets into full swing right from the off with pacey rhythmic groove made up of tight kicks and sharp hats to the backdrop of cool snare rolls. The warm bass comes through beautifully and gives a real sense of depth to the sound. Big chord stabs litter the sound as house synths begin to filter through. The big feature on the track has gotta be those drum arrangements, ever evolving and complex, they will definitely keep those dancing feet moving.

Meet Me After Dark rounds up this stunning EP with its slightly tougher stance as big chunky kicks are joined by harsh and crispy hats alongside some very cool percussions. The bassline evolves out of the depths with a resonating power that dominates the low end. In contrast the track works brilliantly as the harsher sounds meet warmer tones. A great vocal riffs throughout the track adding lots of character and reinforcing the tougher edge. A true deep house groove that will find a home in the deeper sets for sure.

The cult pop singer conjures a spectral drama from the track’s halcyon production, wreathing the warm pads and joyful strings in the cosmic myth of Eurydice and Orpheus.
 
‘Don’t Look Back (Eurydice)’ will feature on Bager’s collaborative album with singer-songwriter Findlay Brown, set to come out in 2025. Brown’s vocals feature on the track as well, merging with the gauzy threads of Domino’s voice.
 
The collaboration has its own musical wellspring. Domino’s synth pop of the 80’s is a particularly revered item in the Balearic canon, which Bager – the veteran dj, producer and compiler – has played his part in assembling.
 
Anna Domino says about the song:
 
“When I heard the music Kenneth sent me, it suggested the feeling of a really good high.
 
What the lyrics describe is the seductive dream that a drug can provide - the genuine joy at being in a beautiful place that just happens to be hell. The question becomes - how do you find your way back home from such a nightmare.
 
So it is a story about Eurydice and her decision to leave the underworld. She speaks to Orpheus of her fascination and fear of the place as she leads him through it.
 
When I was a child, I saw the movie Black Orpheus and it broke my small heart. The power of that film has never left me.”

Info: We’ve been meaning to put out some music by our friend Harald ever since we started this wee operation five years ago. Imagine our joy now that we’re ready to release not one, but two masterful records signed Mr. Björk! Fritids EP sees Harald bringing his top game to Studio Barnhus: starry-eyed pop melodies, dusty machine riddims and the Maestro’s sweet trembling voice, all synched up (sort of) and ready to tell us stories of imperfect love, blossoming Nacka gardens and bicycle rides on wet gravel. Also on this record: Suzanne Kraft jammin’ harmonic on the remix, Malin Gabriella Nordin straight up slaying it with the artwork. This 12′’ EP is released synchronously with the vinyl exclusive 7′’ single Strings Of Harald (BARN 037).
