THE LONG WAY DOWN

ÌFÉ's latest single, Umbo (Come Down), is a musical invitation to the benevolent forces that be. Drawing from rhythms and incantations of sacred Yoruba praise songs, ÌFÉ calls out to those would would hear us in our times of need. Keenly aware that our most potent gods, and loves, are first met dancing, and we take our plunges from there. Part celebration, part adoration, Umbo beckons us into that space between places, where we can let go and be brought to shore.

ÌFÉ is a bold new musical project from Puerto Rico polymath Otura Mun. Mun, an Ifá priest or 'Babalawo' in the Yoruba religion, has been at the vanguard of the Puerto Rican music scene since arriving from Indiana US in the late 1990s, producing critically acclaimed albums and songs for many of the island's most important musical voices, including Mima, Cultura Profetica and Calma Carmona.  ÌFÉ is his first solo project.

A trip to cartagena for fun yielded the recording of a brilliant voice: in the crowded street, a man slinging "pescado-pescado" (fried fish)... 
My aunt, my dad  a baby & rattle,  plus some really drunk beach bums fell into the mix. 
Recorded and mixed in Cartagena and Brooklyn 2017.
