The first shock when listening to a new song is an instinct that only appears in the great timeless creations. Those of us who have spent many years listening to records, buying, selling, DJing, and promoting clubs and parties, have that instinct that appears where you least expect it. The first time I heard this song I had a direct impact. That feeling you can have only with specific songs. Alpha Draconis takes me straight to heaven. It reminds me of the purest music of James Stinson or Jeff Mills. For me this creation by Mariska, who was never in Detroit or knows the history of the city, represents the European Neo-Detroit sound very well. With that influence for the listener but she comes out of her totally altruistic soul with her own unique personality, a totally original composition without thinking of anything other than her own conviction when playing music.

Complet label owner and Berlin based DJ and producer Ray Kandinski has been making serious moves over the last few years, both through his ear for curation and his rich, intricate sound design. Inspired by a pool of influences, including; jungle, footwork and house - Kandinski believes the beauty of dance music can be found in its subtlety and range; which can be heard deeply running throughout his debut EP for Lobster Theremin.

Title track ‘Garant’ takes place in a quasi-rainforest beckoned by nature's call. The type of good-natured music that sounds inspired by the evolving world around us; locking us in a groove that could happily last forever.

A ray of sunshine shines through sparse breakbeats in opening track ‘95’, before ‘No love’ follows with a slightly more clubier affair, while still maintaining it's blissful edge through the use of lush and dynamic synth work. ‘Healing’ then closes the A side with it’s minimal grooves, both hypnotic and understated; light refracting from one medium to another in a colourful display of blue and green.

The B side makes its entrance with ‘Zonin’ a choppy house cut with a point to prove, before demonstrating his artistic versatility in ‘The Mack’ blending his way into an electro mutation laced with ravey stabs and punchy drums, combining various influences from around the globe.

Close your eyes and merge into Benedikt Frey’s 'Fastlane'. Imagine sitting in the driver’s seat of a an automobile, one with exceptional horsepower and torque, as you stare out the windshield at the red light, warping in fata-morgana a mile down the road. It’s a straight-away, a black top with two lanes, and against your better judgment you decide to floor the gas. 

No hesitation in your muscle, your ankle or the ball of your foot, which you now realize is some kind of universal pivot, the first point of contact fusing your body with the will of machine. In this moment you’re in awe that you, a human, an animal, grew from pond scum into something so advanced as to engineer this thing, a mechanical beast capable of overwhelming power and exhilaration. 

But you also feel a seductive dread, an outside force diverting you from caution toward a dangling carrot of curiosity, asking yourself, ‘How far can I take this thing?’ The dread, now a constant, is numbed, equalized by an adverse intoxicating gratification. 

You feel both sensations in real time, however, rather than take responsibility for yourself, friends, family and innocent bystanders, you cement your foot to the floor and lean your head back. Noise around you fades to mute. Smell the benzene-scented air, feel the wind on your face, the menacing vibration of the vessel you control beneath you and every grain of asphalt under its tires. This mile has now lasted an eternity and you’ve left your body for some objective view, as if watching climax of a film. 

Past the point of no return, you embrace abandon and lean into fate. The film becomes slow motion, a crawling pace so mesmerizing you convince yourself of an option to eject yourself from this madness, but as you finally let go of your last morsel of fear, you run the red light head-on into the nucleus of a fantastic glistening sculpture of torn metal, glass, oil, broken dreams and heartache. 

'Fastlane' may be just drum machines and synthesizers if you’re timid, but listen harder and know the catastrophic reality of existence, a wreckage so gruesome we dare not rubberneck, but afterall it is our nature to stare.

For seven months Russia has been waging a disgusting war in Ukraine. Constantly, we learn new horrific truths about what the occupiers have done on the land, that they proclaim is theirs. We believe Ukraine will be free again and rightful judgement will be brought upon those, who hide their violent, genocidal intentions behind the mask of lies.

With our first compilation - ‘Soteria’ - we want to aid the fight for freedom, that is still ongoing. We at Xpone stand strongly in support of the Ukranian people and against the Russian terrorist regime. We don’t acknowledge the new territories annexed by the occupier, nor the old, and condemn the blatantly fake "referendums" that took place from 23-27 September 2022 on the territories of self-proclaimed “DNR”, “LNR”, and the occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

All proceeds from this release will go to Livyj Bereh — a volunteer organisation, which helps to rebuild the homes of those affected by the Russian invasion, as well as provides constant aid for the Ukranian military.

We thank everybody, who participated and all those, who are willing to support the cause.

Alpha draconis

Mariska’s approach to music production is intuitive and unconventional. Instead of following a fixed genre or format, her music serves to express her inner world in a dreamy and playful way. Heavily influenced by elektro, Detroit Techno and IDM of the nineties (think Drexciya, Plaid, Orbital, …), this results in a quite emotive and melodic electronic sound. The atmospheres she creates have a sometimes slightly ominous undertone, yet are filled with optimism and a hint of nostalgia. Starting producing at the age of 18, she was quickly discovered by DJ Stingray through Myspace in 2009. This lead to her first release of her track Insolitology on Planet E, as a part of the Urban Tribe collective. She has also released tracks on Bleep 43, Semantica, and more recently HC Records, BAOX and Electro Records.
