A blast from the past.  Found a CD from 2000 that we recorded and mixed, but it wouldn't play.  Have managed to salvage it mostly all intact.

Tumbleweed was a male/female country duo who played all over Scotland and the north of England in late 1990s/early 2000's at country clubs and festivals, later going on to form 5pc band Rodeo Drive.

In this recording are myself and John Scott on keys, supplemented by other musician friends in the sessions we did.  Peter Candlish on guitars and bass and the late great and never forgotten John "The Baron" Manning on pedal steel guitar.

A funny story of this song's recording was that The Baron paid no heed to the recording process itself, fag jagged onto the end of the pedal steel string (and smoking in my work at the time, where this was recorded, where smoking was totally banned).  All during recording his parts on the pedal steel, he kept making these popping and clunking noises with his instrument, which was pretty old by that time.  Och John, right we'll need to record it again as you made another popping sound.  All day we recorded.  And we just about got there, right up until the very last seconds of this song, thinking right, we've made it to the end this time.  POP!!  It was so funny that we decided to leave that last "pop" in for old times sake, so we would have a funny memory of that day.  And so it is.

Living for the City into Signed Sealed Delivered - Atlantic Soul feat Jimbo MacKellar

I needed to get some demos done for my new solo website, but didn't have the a) time or b) money to go into a paid recording studio to do it.  So decided to do it myself.  So I downloaded some free mixing and recording software and had a go.  I didn't have any special tools at all, but after hearing the result, I think I may need to buy a pop shield!  But I think this isn't too bad, since I haven't had any time (learning curve) learning the software or bought anything special for it.  I just used my regular mic (EV female voccal mic).  MixPad did the business with the mixing.  I think I'll get better the more I use it.  I'll defo be buying the software in 2 weeks time when the free period is up.

A bunch of songs I recorded for my new website.  It's been, and continues to be, a learning process as I am getting to grips with a new pro condenser recording mic and recording & editing/mixing software.  Some of the songs were recorded using my usual dynamic stage mic and not edited or mixed and some I'm starting on the learning process for this.  Hopefully as I do more and more, my knowledge will increase and this will show in the quality of the mixes.  Most of these songs were recorded live in one take.

40th anniversary of Quadrophenia and The Who on Brighton's beach.  We  were asked to do a song for the album.  We did "Bell Boy", mostly because our Rupert is a saaaf Laaandan boy and can do the Keef Moon vocals so eloquently, but also because our band is on the periphery of the scooter/MOD scene.  We think it's a masterpiece in our lunchtime, yaas.

After 15 years of being lead singer (also founder/manager) of a large soul band playing all over the UK and internationally, I've now changed direction slightly and, as well as singing with my bands, I'm now having massive fun and fulfilment gigging solo all over the central belt of Scotland. I still gig with the big band and also as male/female duo with keyboard player and 3 and 4pc with guitarist and/or sax player. Everything from weddings and functions to tribute nights, cabaret and also jazz and laid back stuff for weddings, corporate and restaurants. I also gig with my rock band too.
 
As you can see, I've got massive experience from performing in huge arenas to small intimate venues either on my own or accompanied with other musicians.
