Weighing in heavy with murderous intent across three guaranteed dance levellers, Trends & Boylan land on Sneaker Social Club with a bang. The pair have been slugging out grime-leaning gear for the past five years, causing a ruckus with their truly evil ‘Norman Bates’ beat, releasing also on Trends own Mean Streets label and linking up with Slimzee’s foundational stable Slimzos for some dubplate action.

They bring that street-level swagger to the tracks on the Ninety Nine EP, but here their punchy 8-bar flex is embellished to blend in with the Sneaker surroundings a treat. ‘Carnage’ tips towards chopped up Think Breaks while ‘Nocturnal’ doubles down on the dirtiest of b-lines. Confirming their allyship from dubplates gone by, Slimzee links up with Trends & Boylan for the double A side slammer, ‘Ninety Nine’, weaving dread-side D&B stabs around a tightly-wound beat with devastating results. There’s not an ounce of excess on these cuts precision tooled to smashup the dance good and proper. Need we say more?

@djlutsu and @reallyrazor team up for a heavyweight collab on ‘Certy’.

Taking elements from drill, grime, and a smattering of other UK club genres, ‘Certy’ outstrips the sum of its parts - on a foundation of Lutsu’s on-point production and tied together by vocals from East London’s Razor, it makes for a track that sounds equally at home in a club set, in headphones or on radio.

Mark Kloud returns to Samsara Beats with his EP 'Stuck in the Zoo'. Today we have your first listen of the title track a mystical dubby, jungle infused number. 
Hailing from Buffalo New York, Mark is known for his minimal halftime beats, combining elements of stripped-down jungle and rolling, dubby basslines - a sound heavily influenced by grime and dub. He's been experimenting and pushing the boundaries of uptempo music for the past 10 years, and was previously featured on Samsara Beats' debut release, the 'Syncopation' various artist compilation, in 2018 with the track 'Traffic Flow’. JUDDER launches its own label with the first release being a VA "Judder Compilation #1". Expect nine tracks, exploring bass-oriented sonics around the 130–160 bpm range, from the likes of both worldwide acknowledged and up-and-coming artists. A huge palette of sounds and different moods meticulously flows through each track from the very beginning to an end.

The duo Poima opens the release with hypnotic and viscous swampy vibes, at the same time An Avrin brings groovy dancefloor-ish breakbeat settings. JUDDER resident Oddkut comes in with a percussive-driven heavy-hitter, while Nattah showcases her skills with unpretentious yet deeply pervasive stepper "False Trail". DUBRAW's very own Skotcha delivers pure shellings with a skippy grime-influenced "Shells" and, as usual, Champion Sound are ready to bury the soundboy with nothing but a straight belter. Flint's minimalistic approach to production continues to unfold through an ever-swirling and ever-twisting "Amok" and so does Dawn Razor's with a very funky and dubby dancefloor tool. The one to complete the compilation is Kapha, sharing an enigmatic clicky juke-track "Act & Pause"

Usurper  - Bad Boy Sound

Moving away from the mellower, Far East-influenced ‘Taiko’ EP from 2017 on the label, the Manchester producer exemplifies his range of sound with four weighty and moody tracks heavily focused on the dancefloor.

Elements of dubstep run through the EP, especially on the title track with its floor-shaking bass rumbles, accompanied by skitterings of percussion and warped cries of ‘murder’. In line with KAIZEN’s ethos, the rest of EP fuses elements of techno and grime to devastating effect, layered with spacey atmospherics and off-kilter rhythms.

With love already shown by Ben UFO, Pinch, Loefah, Object Blue and Klose One, there’s no doubt Walton’s destructive club cuts will be getting plenty of minutes in the dance.

The ‘Murdah’ EP follows Walton’s ferocious ‘Inside’ EP on Pinch’s Tectonic Recordings and his debut album ‘Black Lotus’ on the same label in 2018.

With his forthcoming 2-track, debut EP “Echo” - a rapturous, dense and eerie blend of UK techno and breaks - scheduled for a winter 2019 release via Birmingham-based, independent record label and collective, Circular Jaw, it’s unsurprising to see an already formidable backing, with the likes of Minor Science, L U C Y, Darwin & Truska already playing his tracks across Europe.

Coles remains dedicated to blurring the lines and joining the dots. As we continue . . .

‘Drips’ sets the pace and opens the flood gates with a flowing groove and lingering bass womps like condensation off a low ceiling. ‘160909313’ steamrolls through with a constant Turbo drum machine drive accelerated by a non stop rolling bass riff. The doors are well and truly blown off in ‘Funk 160’ as a planet rocking breakbeat and infectious chord stabs set the pace with confidence and class. Balmy pads caress a lazy groove in ‘Summer Moods’ and conjure feelings of long evenings and ever lasting sunsets. The Riviera is all bit crushed pads and elite level breakbeat science while you enjoy the passing vistas. ’Clouds’ brings this episode to a close with a smooth glide through the stratosphere and beyond with 4/4 kicks and luscious bass arp.

'This record for me reflects the ongoing conversation between cultures and styles where jungle meets footwork meets techno, 3 cultures that share more in common than perhaps people realise, and for me this is more of a in-depth exploration for example of sonic tropes more prevalent in the world of detroit techno than other previous records. 'Clouds' and '160909313' for example being somewhat of an homage to Detroit, the birthplace of techno, yet another black music that changed the world.' - Philip D Kick / Om Unit

The hardest hitting track from Drumskull's blazing debut album of last year gets the full 12" and digital EP treatment, re-mastered and cut here by Beau Thomas at Ten Eight Seven, and followed by a high pressure 'Nosebleed' remix by the brilliant ETCH. On the flip, solid reworks from Benny iLL of Horsepower Productions and the prolific Coco Bryce supply contrasting takes on the Drumskull album tracks 'Battle Stations' and 'Interlocked' respectively.

Whether dancefloors and other party spots prove to be accessible this year or not, these four sure shots offer all the pressure and intensity you might require to continue to negotiate your way through the current global shit storm.
