The Stuff

Another from my unfinished album...still needs horns, keys, vocals...

Left my beloved van by the side of the road,
Eight lanes of blacktop and I hadn’t seen a soul.
But south, across a mustard field, I perceived a sight,
A mansion with gables and luminous lights,
It was four in the morning so what else could I do?
And that field was fragrant with a narcotic dew,
And as I neared the house I heard the unmistakable sounds,
Of a knock down, drag out, party going down.

There was a dwarf in a fez and some angels on a bed,
There was a woman with an eye in the back of her head,
She said she spied me coming in the leaves of her tea,
To the party for the Lost Souls Secret Society.

This scaly handed apparition took me by the arm,
He said I’d been chosen, and that I had been charmed,
The siren by the window bowed and said, “I was the one,”
“Who sent you the message that told you to come.”
I said I was unaware, that’s when everybody grinned,
An elf said basically that was how they all got in,
He put a drink in my hand and said, “Now that you’re found,”
“If you want I’d be happy to show you around.”

Goblins in the corner, and Faust’s in the commode,
There was a group in the kitchen who were waiting for Godot,
They said, “Make yourself at home, and everything is free,
At the party for the Lost Souls Secret Society.

Why would I run?
There was no place to go,
I was invited and welcomed,
Into this home…

There was an ogre in the basement tasting the wine,
And that mermaid by the pool was looking mighty fine,
There were ghosts in the closets and a gorgon in the hall,
And those wood sprites in the backyard, man they were having a ball,
After the shock, I knew I’d never be alone,
And I knew in my heart I could call this house a home,
I felt my ills being mended, and my loneliness slaked,
When up sauntered Kali with that secret handshake.

There was a band of higher entities blowing out the jazz,
And every apparition I ever feared out of my past,
But I felt such love around me, and lord it set me free,
At the party for the Lost Souls Secret Society.
