Dark/Ethereal/Forest Ambience

Tonight's DJ session hosts the versatile Dutch artist Matthijs van der Geest, for whom entry points into the world of music were genres such as funk, punk and death metal. Under the alias Whrikk, he first appeared live on the electronic scene as a producer and DJ of dark psy trance around 2008. In recent years, the WHRK project has been leaning towards techno, IDM, acid and more modern braindance and breakbeat. marked by characteristic syncopated rhythms.

Matthijs's expressive style is also fueled by the comic book world of bizarre creatures and science fiction, which has been an indispensable source of inspiration for his musical and visual artistic opus since childhood. Nevertheless, it is impossible to fully define it, as it confronts us with the unexpected with every creation. Let us also emphasize that the majority of his music is created with modular and analog synthesizers, which for the musician actually represent a kind of living entity with which he explores the saturated sound universe in a playful way with various possibilities.

In short, his music embodies light and darkness, is obscure, sensitive and above all - playful. It's time to listen to the exclusive set he prepared for Radio Student.

This is an exclusive live set titled AMOR FATI by MYR. This is a story about our crazy world and the fact that everything is in our hands. This live collects the stuff of several years of work, but the key place is given to recent-day events. Goa-based Ukrainian artist, Oleg Myr fell in love with electronic music for ever after the incredible experience of raves in the 90s with legendary artists like Prodigy and all kinds of hardcore and drum and bas ... Even then, he began to experiment with sound using old DOS applications and, through the years, traveling through the sonic realm was influenced by psychedelic culture, like Scandinavian Forest Sound from Yggdrasil and Sanaton Records. Right now, two EPs are in progress (MYR's dark alter ego project FURVUSGUSTUS), several tracks for different VAs, a full-length album and big collaboration project Waldeinsamkeit.

Time is not linear! 

My Archaic project was born around in 2004 and the name was inspired from books like "The Archaic Revival" written by Terrence McKenna  and Mircea Eliiade´s all time classic "Shamanism and the Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy”……
 
My music in those year was a bit different, but the concept, the ideas and the spirit was the same as today.
So I decided to go back in time to find the title of this Digital Gift EP and i came up with
"Archaic's medicine bag" which was the title of a mini album that i produced in CD format and I was selling it from hand to hand and from friend to friend!

Back to today! In the “Medicine bag" you will find 2 tracks, one Archaic and one Avaris.
The Archaic "Ringing Cedars" track is inspired from the beautiful Siberian
Cedar Trees and the Myths around them!
The Avaris "Shamanic Overtones” is a low tempo atmospheric
psychedelic ambient chill but with intense rhythmical parts
in a very organic environment.

The music here doesn’t requires or demands perfectionism and does not follow
some specific styles. The expression is raw  and uncensored.
Perfection is an illusion in our multi layered and full of complexity beloved
Music, as is the modern psychedelic trance. I believe that
Music has memories by itself and if we remember our roots and how we started
on our path, then we can take inspiration direct from our selves and bring back 
the missing parts of our souls.

It is a taste, an introduction for my upcoming album on Parvati Records in the beginning of Otober 2018!
