Here's a portion of my set recorded from the GRAVITY party in Los Angeles. It's raw, spontaneous, 100% all vinyl, AND it's downloadable. First record went on at 3am right after DUBTRIBE SOUNDSYSTEM'S excellent live performance and I continued playing until 6:30. We were very lucky with 2020 Soundsystem: 10 years of touring the globe, playing fantastic gigs at clubs, parties and festivals and meeting and working with some wonderful people. This is a previously unreleased, promo only  'live album' that we recorded in the summer of 2012 in the middle of our last bout of touring. It had always frustrated me that we had never quite caught the real energy and sound of the band playing live on any of our releases, so when the opportunity arose to record a session in Loudhailer Studios here in Manchester, we jumped at it. We spent one day setting up and getting a 'sound' that we were comfortable with and had a play through, then recorded this the next day. It's basically a one take run through of our live set at that time which includes tunes that we wrote as a band and also originals and remixes that we had previously released under our solo project names. For me it's the most satisfying recording we ever made. Please enjoy and spread the LOVE! It goes out to everybody who supported us throughout and continues to support us in our other projects. It really does mean a lot.

There is an underlying honesty to music made and played by @manueltur . On his own productions it comes through as breathtaking simplicity, a clean and deeply compelling approach to making deep house music. 

By aesthetic this sort of music belongs on @freerangerecords so we shouldn't be too surprised that Manuel Tur would make something of a home for himself (and for his side project Clavis) on Jimpster's acclaimed deep house imprint. His latest - Organic Reach EP - marks his first solo release on the label in five years. 

It also shouldn't surprise us to find his studio habits spilling over into his DJ style. A Manuel Tur set is about music selection over effects - as on his original productions, his style is characterized as "clear and straight-forward without tons of tricks. Both at the studio and the club, an EQ is still the most powerful tool we have."

I met Fred in 1992 on my first ever DJ gig in Quebec City. We became friends and I’ve been a fan of his music ever since. I still remember the pride I felt when I put the needles on his first record in 1995 so I decided to put together a mix to celebrate 25 years of music in 25 tracks.

This mix is neither chronological nor a “Best Of”, It’s rather a collection of my own personal favourites of Originals, Remixes, Collaborations, Bootlegs that have marked my musical journey through the years in a discography that spans over 2 and half decades and over 250 releases.

I hope you will find as much joy as I did discovering or rediscovering the many moods and many shades of Fred Everything.

I sat down with Fred to play him my mix and reminisce a little about the events, places and meetings that led to the existence of those tracks.

1.Fred Everything feat Rise Ashen - Find Your Way [20:20 Vision] UK 2004
From my second album, Light Of Day featuring Rise Ashen from Ottawa who also sang on the title track. This one showcases a slightly more electro influence, written shortly after Here (Now) released as a b-side of the single Over You which came out a year before the album.

2.Fred Everything - Revolution [20:20 Vision] UK 1999
One of my biggest “hits” from my first album Under The Sun on 20:20 Vision which was also licensed by Turbo for North America. Tiga had an idea to do a video for it, which was filmed in an arena in Westmount. It features myself on vocals, through a Talk Box. I was using an Atari at the time without any audio so I used to have to sample every phrase and sometimes words and sequence it after.

3.Random Factor - Broken Mirror (Fred Everything Dub) [20:20 Vision] UK * Brique Rouge 2002
My first official commissioned remix. I was working closely

Disco Safari presents Crazy P (DJ set)

This set was recorded live at an underground weekly after-show called Etch A Sketch which started sometime in late 92 by Scott Leitzke & James Heth.  The weekly was held in a vacant basement of a building in the gaslamp area of downtown san diego. Despite the dodgy name and the fact it started in the wee hours of the morning, it was a very fun, but short lived night which offered music and a "free breakfast cereal bar" which was a pretty unique idea at the time. The djs on this particular night, if my memory serves me correctly, was DJ Xstatic aka Daeman, Joey Jimenez & myself. This was the era I was constantly being billed as the "sunrise" dj and you can hear why on this mix. Lots of deep / early morning house classics here plus a few other surprises. This mix has never seen the light of day until now. I hope you get a kick out of hearing this mix which is just a few months past 19 years in age. A big thanks goes to Nathalie Schroeder for lending me her copy of this cassette tape since I had lost mine years ago in a move. 

Mark E Quark - Live Nov 1992 Part 1

In a pinch, if forced to employ adjectives to describe the Mark E. Quark style, one would come up with words like “groovy, laid back and nasty” house music. But putting grammar aside, it’s reasonable to just say that Quark has internalized influences from DJ Harvey, Idjut Boys, Jeno, and Andrew Weatherall, mashed them up, and given life to a signature style and a creature which is totally unique. This creature is currently brought to life for public consumption  at Moonshake in San Diego.
