"Fanfare for Marika" (2019) for brass and percussion is a musical response to a fanfare illustrated by acclaimed Finnish children's book illustrator and writer Marika Maijala. The work alludes to nursery rhymes, American hip-hop, Philippine folk music, and the musical languages of Claude Debussy and Jean Sibelius in order to create a contemporary fanfare that synthesizes pop and classical music across time and borders.

This is a fugue written in memorial of my late Volvo 240 DL station-wagon, affectionately named Ingmar.

Fugue In A Minor

“Night Rider” is an excerpt from my forthcoming Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, which will be used in an upcoming short work of animation by Marika Maijala. The work's moody and hopeful atmosphere stems from a harmonization in Eb major of the Latin sequence “Dies Irae” from the Mass of the Dead, American minimalist tropes, and pop music rhythms.
