Two imprints from opposite sides of the Atlantic come together in 2015 in the name of 'BRSTL Hardcore' – the new, four-track EP from Brazilian-born, Bristol-based DnB producer, S.P.Y. Following a prolific year on his home label, Hospital Records, where he released his acclaimed double album totaling 24 tracks ('Back to Basics Chapters One and Two'), S.P.Y has collated four originals to be released via NEST.

S.P.Y (real name Carlos Lima) explored a darker, edgier sound in Back to Basics last year, reflecting on the early days of Drum & Bass in a noble nod to the old school. And while 'BRSTL Hardcore' carries on some of the redolence of the 90s sound found in the double album, the EP’s main attributes lie within the energy of the production, with S.P.Y concentrating on maximum bass levels aimed directly at the dancefloor. From the snarling punches in “BRSTL Hardcore” to the dramatic atmospherics of “Mass Effect”, the new EP from S.P.Y boasts a gritty, stripped back aesthetic that both DnB newcomers and longtime Hospital Records fans can equally appreciate.

These tracks highlite the current state of modern Jungle (& Drum and Bass). “Give Me A Dub” on the full A side is all about heavy Amen drums and phat basslines, one for the late night hours (or early mornings). “The Dread” uses smooth drums and slick heavy subbass-lines, it’s a hazy, dreamy track but dark & menacing at the same time, a wicked tech roller that echoes deepness reminiscing of that golden Jungle era. “Heaven ft.E” is all about melancholy with it's “crying” emotional deep male "Heaven" vocal, together with E's live saxaphone contribution and cleverly chopped-up Apache drum programming, this track reminds us of those special Bluenote/Speed days back in 1995-1996. 

This release comes as a limited 140g clear vinyl pressing with full artwork sleeve + white glossy inner sleeve, including a mp3 download voucher + a free poster/inlay and all tracks mastered by Stuart Hawkes of Metropolis Mastering London. Kabuki, one of the founding fathers of Germany's Drum & Bass scene is welcomed back to V Recordings, dropping his first single with the label since his amazing debut album 'Warrior Soul' in 2011.

He comes fresh from an amazing 'New Forms' Boiler Room session with D Bridge and Zed Bias, which showcased his love for bass music of all tempos, and has spent the last few years deep in the lab with remixes and original productions like his amazing Meditations LP keeping fans enthralled. 

Back on V Kabuki teams up with Serum on 'Heist Flick' and the pair deliver a precision engineered slice of bass heavy rolling D&B. Going solo on 'Clash' Kabuki delivers more bassline trickery on a track which conjures memories of classic V, with the vibes fully flowing!

DC Breaks have earned their stripes in the underground but, with an album due in the Autumn and a packed festival season ahead, they're about to explode onto the international stage in a spectacular fashion.
