This track was recorded during the two day marathon recording session at the Musican's Union in SF. In the end, there was way too much material to put on the band's debut CD "Cheap Rent", so there wasn't space for a number of tunes, including this one.

Live recording from the Bay Area Composer's Big Band performance at the Gualala Arts Center, as part of the 2010 Whale and Jazz Festival. In some sense, this is an homage to my former teacher and inspiration, Milton Babbitt, who wrote All Set for Jazz Ensemble way back in 1957.

Dark Matter

First performance of this incarnation of my arrangement of the Eddie Palmieri classic. The SF Jazz Monday Night Band played an earlier version for expanded instrumentation including vibes, oboe, and french horn. Which was based on the 4 horn version originally arranged for my Santa Cruz project: El Sol.

From my Jazz Mafia Tuesday archives is perhaps my favorite of the 5 Realistic 3rd Tuesday shows I recorded. Realistic continues to be one of my favorite Jazz Mafia projects because of how unpredictable the music is within sessions, and how different the music was each month. When Michael Emenau moved to France, the 3rd Tuesday slot was filled by a great 4 trombone and rhythm section JM project called the Low End Theory. Next month ...
