This work continues a fascination I have with the metaphorical and aesthetic implications of the fiber arts and their application to music. For me, when I consider what the concept of fabric means artistically and metaphorically, my thoughts often branch off into far-reaching and highly varied areas of thought and possibility, while also maintaining a sense of cohesion and connectedness. Sometimes the dynamics of fabric seem to express the dynamics of consciousness. 

With that in mind, three impressions came to mind while composing this piece. 1) a bundle of tangled clothes left on a beach, 2) the idea that clothing is a form of shelter, and 3) the sound of clothes being folded and dropped in a small room.

This is a piece I wrote for electric bass and soprano. It was performed by myself on electric bass and the amazing Marion Powers singing the soprano part. Sorry for the terrible recording quality. A new, better recording will be coming soon, but for now I wanted to share it anyway.

Based around a pulse of 5 bpm, that really picks up somewhere in the middle with a shift to 10 bpm.

This is a recording of the premiere of this piece. This work is constructed entirely from well-known works in the repertoire of organ music. Composed for the 2019-2020 AGO Student Commission program.

Firma | Foundation

A brief study using Kofi Agawu's concept of re-composition as analysis to analyze the timbre of the theme song from "Friends." The song is reconstructed with attention payed as much as possible to what I perceive as the timbral elements of the song rather than the harmonic or pitch content, though these are inextricably linked.
