I love learning about niche artists like Cyrice who create such original products. I enjoyed Cyrice’s fantasy cultural year which uncovered many surprises like the two individuals she chose to meet for her hero lunch.

With extensive senior leadership and consulting experience across various domains, including urban planning, cultural enrichment, entertainment, and K-12 education non-profits, Cyrice has left an indelible mark on each endeavour she has undertaken.

Jonva Ven, Cultural broadcaster, educator and champion for women's music.

Elena Ortega is a full member of The Arts and Culture Network and a respected classical guitarist. In our interview I created her fantasy cultural year and we played the This or That game for some surprises, anecdotes, laughs and conversational detours.

Early Life and Education

Elena Ortega, a classical guitarist from Madrid, Spain, began her journey in music with extensive training in classical guitar. Her studies took her through the rich musical landscapes of Madrid and Seville, where she honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed teachers.

Career Beginnings and Musical Preferences

Elena's career in classical guitar is marked by her passion for provoking deep emotions in her audience through her performances. While she does not compose, she has a profound admiration for composers and enjoys playing guitar concertos by West, Harbay, Tong, and Ponthe. Her music is available on several digital platforms, reflecting her dedication to making classical guitar accessible to a wider audience.

Cultural Influences and Personal Interests

In a discussion about her cultural experiences, Elena shared her love for Spanish culture and art, a sentiment appreciated by Mark, who has familial ties to Sevilla. This cultural appreciation extends to her favourite book, "Lord of the Rings," which she has read multiple times and enjoys discussing in both literary and cinematic forms.

Decision-Making Game and Personal Preferences

Elena and Mark engaged in a decision-making game that revealed Elena's personal preferences. Given choices like tea or coffee, radio or television, and high heels or flip-flops, Elena displayed a thoughtful approach, opting to "test the water" rather than jump in at the deep end. Her indecision between Beethoven and Mozart highlights her deep appreciation for classical music.

Fantasy Cultural Year

Mark and Elena created a fantasy cultural year for her, set in Egypt near the Pyramids of Giza, incorporating her favourite book "Lord of the Rings." They discussed the possibility of an recent audio book adaptation, which Elena found intriguing despite her familiarity with the text.

World Tour Funded by Cairo Foundation

A significant milestone in Elena's fantasy career came with an offer from a family foundation in Cairo to fund a world tour for her to study guitar music. She expressed interest in exploring various countries, ultimately choosing Argentina. This fantasy opportunity included documenting her journey through a TV show, a book, and recordings of guitar music she encounters, with the foundation covering all expenses.

Classical Music, Tango, and Argentine Cuisine

Elena's musical preferences lean heavily towards classical music due to its diverse range of moods. Imagining a visit to Buenos Aires, she and Mark envisioned attending a traditional tango dance performance and enjoying Argentine empanadas or steak for dinner.

Preferences for Future Outings

When discussing future outings, Elena showed interest in attending a rock concert or a science fiction film, though she was less enthusiastic about sporting events like soccer matches. Her eclectic tastes reflect a wide range of interests beyond classical music.

Restaurant Lunch Guest List

In a hypothetical scenario, Elena chose to have a restaurant lunch with Slash from Guns N' Roses, Paco de Lucía, and possibly a historic composer such as Beethoven or Mozart. She also expressed a desire to listen to Guns N' Roses on the way home, demonstrating her diverse musical tastes.

Project Completion and Future Plans

Elena successfully completed this interview with Mark, who expressed gratitude for her contribution and membership. Plans to promote the project on various platforms, including YouTube and SoundCloud, were discussed.

Elena Ortega - Classical guitarist

Ian Jones is a gallery owner, curator and art director at Galerie P6 in Berlin, and is renowned for his passion for bringing fine art to those in his community. Ian has successfully built a thriving business in the art world post-pandemic.

His network of contacts, market knowledge, and creative vision have established Galerie P6 as a hub for collectible fine art from both emerging and established artists, while also crafting memorable experiences for art lovers.

In our interview, I created Ian's fantasy cultural year from the answers to 10 easy questions. Expect some laughter, anecdotes, surprises and conversational detours.

Ian and I shared ambitious plans to create at Galerie P6, the first interactive pointillism gallery in Berlin. Visitors will be invited to study the works and write what they see in them on the wall next to the work, for others to see.

This groundbreaking project aims to involve visitors in the experience more, as participants rather than observers. They'll feel part of the experience by interpreting the work with their own imaginations. This initiative aligns with Ian’s broader mission to engage the community and offer new ways to experience art.

In our interview I studied a work by Paul Gardner and was able to see a garden path, doors, trees, bushes and a horizon that the artist had not intended. As a result, I felt part of the process of discovery and enjoyment.

A highlight of our conversation was the creation of Ian’s fantasy cultural year. This imaginative journey included visits to Paris, Vienna, Malaga, and Barcelona, with each city offering tailored experiences to deepen Ian’s expertise in pointillism. Activities ranged from studying original Pointillist works in Paris to enjoying cultural events like a Rammstein concert and a Shakespeare play in Barcelona.

With his plans for an interactive pointillism gallery Ian aims to revolutionise how art is experienced and appreciated in his community.

Ian’s background in tourism management and his passion for opera uniquely position him to create enriching cultural experiences. His vision for Galerie P6 and his innovative projects continue to push the boundaries of the traditional gallery model, offering a glimpse into the future of art and community engagement.

10 golden tips to level up as an artist and creative with Vincent Messelier.

It was a great pleasure interviewing Arts and Culture Network full member and artist Mounya Kecha (AKA Dylaks) recently with the help of ACN ambassador Vincent Messelier to overcome our language barriers.

Born in Mulhouse in France, Mounya Kecha has journeyed through a diverse and dynamic artistic career. With a solid foundation in traditional education, Kecha earned a BAC in mathematics and philosophy, with a specialisation in visual arts. 

Her academic pursuits led her to obtain a diploma in Social Work, where she dedicated 12 years of her life, while later transitioning into the world of design by completing a work-study program in Graphic Design, focusing on visual communication and multimedia. She now works as a freelance graphic designer and artist.

Kecha’s passion for visual expression deepened through formal training in painting at Arpajon and drawing classes at the Louvre Museum in Paris. This blend of theoretical and practical experience underpins her creative approach, shaped by her understanding of art history, regular visits to museums, art centres, and exhibitions, alongside hands-on exploration of different artistic techniques.

Specialising in acrylic and spray paint, Kecha also works with oil, Indian ink, and charcoal, among other mediums. Her compositions are often sparked by photographic inspiration or spontaneous, serendipitous creations that evoke a feeling of déjà vu. 

These works are more than aesthetic expressions, they often delve into themes close to her heart, such as the human condition, environmental issues, and societal relationships. Through her work, she invites viewers to engage emotionally and reflect on these important subjects.

Kecha’s artistic voice is heavily influenced by modern and contemporary art, pop rock, hip hop culture, street art, and graffiti, as well as cinema and television. She actively promotes graffiti as a legitimate art form, participating in collective mural projects and competitions. Her murals, commissioned or collaborative, aim to bring art into the public eye, turning walls into platforms for creative expression and open dialogue, much like an alternative to advertising.

In blending the artistic with the sociological and scientific, Kecha’s work serves dual purposes: to create striking visual art and to communicate meaningful messages, making art both a personal and public experience.

Mounya Kecha - an artist with a social conscience.

In a recent interview, I had the pleasure of speaking with Karen Troussier, an artist and passionate advocate dedicated to uncovering fake news and online impersonation.

Karen’s dedication to exposing misinformation is both inspiring and vital, reflecting the importance of members like her in sustaining a democratic, member-driven organization free from corporate influence.

Our conversation delved into Karen’s fascinating path from theatre to activism. She shared how her background in the arts has uniquely equipped her for diverse environments, even inspiring her to adopt a fictional persona for a role in a diamond company. Today, she focuses on identifying and reporting false information, particularly on social media, where she encounters numerous fake celebrity profiles aimed at misleading the public. Though she has made progress, Karen highlighted the continued need for vigilance and additional resources, including videography, to help amplify her message. Her mission is to raise awareness of the risks misinformation poses to society.

Karen and I discussed the challenges of tackling conspiracy theories and their impact on public trust and cultural narratives. She spoke openly about her work debunking prominent conspiracy theories tied to high-profile events and figures, as well as her collaborations with esteemed doctors and researchers in France who share her commitment to this work.

In a lighter segment of our talk, I invited Karen to envision her ideal cultural year—a journey funded by a prominent New York foundation to support her research on misinformation. The fantasy included a book deal, TED Talk, and even a television series, allowing Karen to travel first-class to the U.S., stay in a luxury suite in New York’s Freedom Tower, and explore conspiracy theories domestically. Karen added her own touches to this experience, from listening exclusively to Ben Harper’s music to dining at a restaurant in Greenwich Village.

Together, we explored her cultural interests on an imaginary tour of New York’s art scene, with Karen choosing experiences from a Shakespeare tragedy to a Ballet Rambert contemporary performance, the Broadway musical Cats, and an opera of Tosca. She also selected the film A Star is Born, noting she was eager to finish it for its emotional depth.

I then imagined a celebratory dinner for Karen, her partner, and a special guest of her choice. She chose her late mentor, Georges Vard, a respected Geneva theatre director, whose guidance left a profound mark on her career and perspective.

As we wrapped up, Karen and I exchanged our mutual appreciation, with me thanking her for her invaluable contributions to the Arts and Culture Network and for her determined work in the challenging field of online information.

Our conversation underscored Karen’s commitment to authenticity and truth and the network’s support for artists who use their voices to create positive societal impact.

Karen Troussier, artist and disinformation campaigner

In my interview with Steven Lloyd-Gonzalez, renowned orchestral arranger and conductor, we crafted his ideal cultural year through a series of spontaneous questions, sparking laughter, insights, and moments of reflection. Steven’s journey began with a serene afternoon at the Alhambra Palace, sipping Rioja, before setting off on a dream year in southern France to explore approaches to conducting, immersed in the richness of mid-20th-century classical music.

Among his choices were the works of composers Bohuslav Martinů and Dmitri Shostakovich, whose pieces he’d study deeply during his imagined year. He painted a vivid itinerary that included a performance by the French Ballet Preljocaj of Romeo and Juliet, followed by a Croatian peka dinner overlooking the Mediterranean.

For an ideal cultural week, Steven’s picks included a concert by Kings of Leon, Sam Mendes’s production of The Tempest, Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, Shostakovich’s opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen. For his “hero day,” he selected conductor Carlos Kleiber, poet Emily Dickinson, and, in a charming twist, Dickinson’s loyal dog, Carlo, as his dream companions for a day of inspiring conversation.

Steven concluded this fantasy year by savouring Abbey Road by The Beatles as his first piece of music on his flight back. This conversation with Steven was both illuminating and unforgettable, filled with passion for the arts, favourite influences, and an enthusiasm that left me with a list of cultural gems to explore.

Steven Lloyd-Gonzalez - Orchestral arranger and conductor.

Stephanie Navarro, widely recognised as Tani Telas, is more than an artist—she’s a creative force who transforms the essence of the Mediterranean into powerful visual stories. Born in the lively port city of Oran, Algeria, and raised in a Spanish family with deep cultural ties to the region, Tani’s journey is an inspiring blend of tradition, innovation, and artistic exploration.

Tani’s formative years were immersed in the sights and sounds of Mediterranean life, surrounded by the gentle chaos of fishing boats and endless sea horizons. In 1985, her family relocated to Toulon, France, where her artistic journey began to unfold. As a child, she spent hours writing, sketching, and creating. A memorable school project about Gustav Klimt sparked her ingenuity when she substituted paints with makeup, using blushes and eyeshadows to recreate warm, earthy tones. This resourceful creativity became a defining feature of her later work.

After earning a degree in International Trade in 1996, Tani pursued a career with The Coca-Cola Company, where she spent over two decades excelling in roles such as Business Systems Analyst and Global IT Production Lead. From 1997 to 2019, she mastered the complexities of project management and operational coaching. Yet, even as her professional life flourished, her passion for art remained a constant presence.

In 2003, a humanitarian trip to India reawakened Tani’s artistic drive. The people she encountered inspired her to explore their stories through her artwork, resulting in the Guerreras (“Warriors”) series, which honours the strength and perseverance of women. Using unconventional materials such as cosmetics, she created deeply emotive pieces that bridged the gap between everyday items and artistic expression.

Tani’s art reflects the richness of human experiences, from the complexities of personal struggles to the joys of shared moments. Collections like Burbujas (“Bubbles”) and Trozos (“Fragments”) celebrate life’s vibrancy and fragility. Her exploration of oil painting and the creation of natural pigments brought new dimensions to her work, blending age-old techniques with her modern vision.

In 2021, Tani made South Corsica her home, setting up a studio overlooking the Mediterranean’s captivating blues. The move inspired works such as her Coral series, which juxtapose humanity’s environmental impact with nature’s resilience. Her art, showcased at events like the ARTE VALINCO festival and the Coti-Chiavari Art Festival, has resonated with audiences through its authenticity and depth.

Environmental stewardship is central to Tani’s practice. She incorporates recycled materials and salvaged items from the coastline into her pieces, highlighting the delicate balance between creation and conservation. Her commitment to sustainability is evident in both her artistic process and the themes she explores.

Romy Birchler - Intuitive digital creator and change agent

Andreas van Zoelen is many things—a saxophonist, conductor, professor, collector, and researcher—but above all, he’s someone who follows his curiosity wherever it leads. As a professor of classical saxophone at Fontys Academy of the Arts, he shares his knowledge with students from all over the world. But his passion for the saxophone extends far beyond the classroom.

His journey into the world of rare and historic saxophones started unexpectedly when, as a young student, he laid eyes on a dusty baritone saxophone hanging in his teacher’s music room. That moment sparked a lifelong obsession, leading him to acquire his first antique saxophones—an early 1900s alto with two octave keys and a Conn straight-neck C melody. His collection grew steadily, one instrument at a time, evolving into something he never quite anticipated: a full-fledged saxophone museum. Not one to keep knowledge to himself, he built an online home for his collection, saxophonemuseum.online, where enthusiasts and researchers can explore the history of the instrument in depth.

Beyond collecting, Andreas is an active performer and collaborator. He joined the world-renowned Raschèr Saxophone Quartet in 2014, taking over the tenor saxophone role from founding member Bruce Weinberger. With the quartet, he has traveled the globe, performing and leading masterclasses. He has also worked with major orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, and has collaborated with artists like Stewart Copeland and Markus Stockhausen. As a soloist, he’s recorded over 40 albums and championed new music—more than 140 pieces have been composed specifically for him.

His academic pursuits are just as impressive. In 2021, he earned his PhD from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, focusing on the Raschèr saxophone tradition and its connection to Adolphe Sax’s legacy. His research has also led to a well-regarded book on the saxophone’s history in the Netherlands, and he regularly contributes articles to international publications.

As a composer and arranger, Andreas has worked with ensembles and orchestras worldwide. Notably, Arvo Pärt personally approved his saxophone arrangements, and he has collaborated closely with composer Fazil Say. His passion for historical performance extends to Edition Sax, an ensemble dedicated to performing early saxophone repertoire on instruments built by Adolphe Sax himself.

Samantha Steele: A Journey in Music, Education, and Project Management

Samantha Steele's musical journey began in Essex, where she attended Havering Music School. Learning both the violin and piano from the age of four, she developed a deep appreciation for a variety of musical styles, ranging from orchestral and cinematic compositions to soul, reggae, and rock.

Her career started in music education, where she spent 16 years as a secondary school music teacher. Passionate about fostering creativity, she worked both independently and as part of a team to bring meaningful opportunities to students. She organized extracurricular programs, enabling students to participate in orchestral concerts and engage with professional musicians. Her teaching career also took her abroad, where she taught both music and English as a CELTA-certified instructor.

Beyond education, Samantha has established herself as a versatile musician, producer, and project manager. As a violinist with the London Contemporary Chamber Orchestra (LCCO), she remains actively involved in orchestral performance while also composing and producing original music. Her compositions blend her diverse influences, often merging orchestral depth with elements of soul and cinematic soundscapes.

Her work as a producer includes collaborations with independent artists, leading to multiple music releases. She shares her music on platforms such as SoundCloud and Instagram under the name "I Am Lady Steele" and continues to build her presence as a composer and producer on LinkedIn.

Currently, Samantha is expanding her career into project management, leveraging her experience in education, music, and arts administration. She has earned a Project Fundamentals Qualification and is studying PRINCE2 and Agile methodologies. Alongside her studies, she provides administrative management for the Woolwich Works Creative Club, supporting the development of creative programming.

As an active member of the Arts and Culture Network, Samantha contributes to initiatives that support artists and musicians, reinforcing her commitment to the creative community.

Dora Derado Gilijanovic  -  Curator & Art Manager

Parama Roy Bardhan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam performer whose journey from a small town near Kolkata to international stages reflects both her passion for Indian classical dance and her unwavering perseverance.

Born and raised in Khardah, a suburb of Kolkata, Parama was introduced to dance at the age of four. Immersed in an artistic environment, she explored various forms of expression before devoting herself to Bharatanatyam, training under the respected Guru Sri Pradeepta Niyogi for over 12 years. She also briefly studied Kathak, but Bharatanatyam remained her true calling.

The premature loss of her father shifted her focus to academics, leading her to pursue a B.Tech. in Software Engineering. Determined to become self-reliant, she built a career in the tech industry. After marrying in 2014, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where she continued working full-time in software while quietly holding on to her passion for dance.

In 2019, Parama revived her relationship with Bharatanatyam, re-entering the world of performance after a significant hiatus. By 2021, she was once again performing on stage—initially within Indian community events and then, increasingly, on mainstream multicultural platforms across the United States.

Standing out as a solo classical performer in a space typically dominated by group presentations, Parama brought Bharatanatyam to broader audiences. Her performances at events such as the Cobb County International Festival and the Johns Creek International Festival earned widespread appreciation. In one instance, she was the only artist to represent India among participants from eight countries. Her solo presentation of Thillana drew attention not only from audiences but also from media outlets including Appen Media and the Marietta Daily Journal.

Her path, however, was not without setbacks. Early in her performance journey in the U.S., she was discouraged when political interference overshadowed talent at a professional competition. Rather than give up, she used the experience as fuel, applying to high-level national and international festivals and competitions. Her persistence was rewarded with recognition from the Indian Cultural Council, the Australian Council, and the U.S. Arts Council. One of her proudest honours was receiving the Best Traditional Dancer – Professional Category from the Australian Cultural Heritage Council.

Beyond performance, Parama is deeply committed to education and cultural exchange. She has conducted demonstrations in schools, introducing the discipline and storytelling power of Bharatanatyam to young learners from diverse backgrounds. She has also gained praise as a choreographer, crafting performances that bridge tradition and contemporary relevance.

For Parama, Bharatanatyam is more than a performance art—it is a holistic discipline that nurtures physical vitality, emotional expression, and spiritual focus. She speaks passionately about its benefits, from cardiovascular health to meditative awareness and the power of connecting deeply with emotion through movement.

Jess Chambers - Cultural Events Strategist

Meet Clarke Jones—a transatlantic music producer with roots in the U.S. and wings in Germany. Clarke runs Clarke Jones Records, an independent label he launched in 2009 from Swäbisch Gmünd. His mission? To make good music without the industry compromises. As a full member of The Arts and Culture Network, Clarke is a passionate advocate for emerging talent, currently celebrating the release of Zombie Town, a vibrant new track by DJ Donner.

In our recent interview, we ventured into a fantasy cultural year—a creative way to learn what makes Clarke tick. The journey began under the Eiffel Tower with a cold Pilsner, moved to a DJ discovery trip in New York, then on to belly dancing, Argentinian steak, cricket in Buenos Aires, and a stroll through a virtual Van Gogh exhibit in Venice.

Pop is Clarke’s genre of choice—"there are only two types of music: good and bad," he says, "and I work with the good." He’d revisit a Sade concert if he could, and for his dream dinner guest? Donald Trump—out of admiration for tenacity rather than politics.

Clarke Jones

Olga Goldina Hirsch is a Russian‑born, London‑based visual artist whose striking mixed‑media works layer paint, spray, screenprint and memory to unveil stories of family, trauma and reclamation. An MA graduate from the City & Guilds of London Art School, she fuses disciplines with storytelling precision.

Her art revisits the “obliterated memories” of her grandparents – Constructivist architects, avant‑garde writers – translating them into canvas palimpsests. Dark black voids emerge as visual blanks, around which Christina Evan’s memory specks coalesce, until they blossom into luminous, open spaces. Working with metallics and fluorescents, she creates flashback‑like effects that enchant and provoke.

Her accolades include runner‑up at the TEBBS International Art Prize (2022) and membership in Paris’s Taylor Foundation.

Beth Prevor is Co-Founder and Executive Director of Hands On, the New York organisation dedicated to making theatre accessible to Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. With a background in stage management and interpreter training, Beth Prevor has transformed inclusion from an afterthought into a standard.

Louise Duggan - Art Consultant & Interior Designer

If you’re searching for someone who lives and breathes Shakespeare’s verse, Colin David Reese might just be your guru. He’s an actor, director, translator — and deeply curious Shakespeare-lover — whose career is built on making the Bard’s words come alive. Growing up in London, Colin was exposed to performance from his earliest days: his father was a radio actor, and Colin himself trod the boards as a child. 

As he matured, he trained formally at Webber Douglas Academy, before heading to France to learn physical theatre under Jacques Lecoq — a move that profoundly shaped his approach to dramatic text.
Throughout his career, Colin has appeared in a broad variety of theatre productions. One standout is his role in Sweet Bird of Youth, directed by Harold Pinter. He also established his own company, La Compagnie du Cèdre, to produce his original work — among them A Gift to the Future, a show deeply rooted in the world of Shakespeare and his players.

His best-known project, Shakespeare Unbound, is a one-man theatrical exploration into the making of the First Folio. Through this show, Colin David Reese unpicks history, performance practice, and the actor’s relationship with Shakespeare’s texts, offering audiences a compelling insight into how his legacy was preserved and understood by his contemporaries.

Colin also runs workshops for actors. In these sessions, he teaches a method that integrates textual analysis, verse rhythm, breathing techniques, articulation, and physical movement. He encourages participants to work with facsimiles of original Folio pages, explore cue-scripts, and reconnect with the way Shakespeare’s actors would have worked on stage. His style is rigorous yet playful, scholarly yet very much grounded in human experience. Colin David Reese - Shakespearean Actor and Director

Meet Charilyne Rojas, a conductor, dedicated music teacher, and communications specialist based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. She currently leads the Young Performers Orchestra (YPO) at the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO), guiding young string players with both confidence and warmth.
Charilyne Rojas’s roots run deep: she’s a GDYO alumna, so she understands firsthand what it’s like to grow up in youth orchestras. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where she taught in the UNT String Project — experience that has shaped her thoughtful, student-focused teaching style.

At GDYO, Charilyne wears multiple hats. As Conductor, she leads rehearsals, shapes programming, and nurtures ensemble technique. As part of the communications team, she helps maintain alumni relationships, manages social media, and shares the orchestra’s story with parents, students, and the wider community. Her blend of musical leadership and storytelling skills ensures that GDYO stays both artistically excellent and deeply connected.

Charilyne is also passionate about teaching beyond GDYO. She runs workshops, coaches school orchestras, and supports developing string programmes — always with an eye on helping students not just play their instruments, but truly understand ensemble artistry.

Tim Brinkman is a globally experienced arts leader, producer, and cultural strategist with more than 40 years in the performing arts. His career spans major roles in the UK, USA, Australia, and India, where he has led theatres, launched new venues, and collaborated with world-renowned artists and companies across theatre, dance, music, and opera.

From 2019 to 2024, Tim served as Head of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, leading artistic programming, performance activity, staffing, finances, and organisational growth. His work helped position NMACC as a landmark centre for world-class performance and cultural exchange.

Now working as an international arts and theatre consultant, Tim supports organisations with interim leadership, artistic planning, team development, business strategy, and major project delivery. He brings clarity, perspective, and a collaborative spirit to every partnership.

Across all his work, Tim is motivated by a simple mission:
to create meaningful cultural experiences that inspire, connect, and elevate audiences.
