They sometimes say that perseverance will win the day in the end and this is what happened with the Afro Funk monster of 'Piani' from French African artist Jo Tongo that took several years of negotiation to bring to the fruition of a potential Mukatsuku Records release. From the haunting intro this is one tune that you will never forget after first listen as it tippytoes through an afrocentric funk /disco groove that will keep your dancefloor alight. On the flipside the Joe Bisso produced funk gem 'Rhythm On Rhythm' from Sookie gets an edit from label boss Nik Weston who trims,tucks and replays the funkier elements of the track with repeated breaks and lashings of brass stabs and wobbly bass lines.available 9th feb Juno.. vinyl only 7 inch   see here... http://bit.ly/1Bb73dG

Anyone who has spent hours, days, years working in a studio writing and producing music will be familiar with this situation. On a whim, you open up ancient folders on an old hard drive and lo and behold, you discover entire, finished songs you had practically forgotten existed.

On this occasion, I've just stumbled upon an alternate version of "Welcome To The Casbah" featuring Prince Po. It originally came out on my second album, Pushin Forty (https://www.discogs.com/Casbah-73-Pushin40/master/504246), which came out way back when (or, nearly 10 years ago, to be precise).

 ...this one is less sample-based and features me on Fender bass & Strat grooving in a kinda latin-funk-disco sort of vein. It was finished but was never intended for the album - I stand behind the original 100 percent - but I think it's a cool tune and I'm happy to offer it here for free, for your pleasure.

It's been 10 years since the birth of Music Is My Sanctuary, and what a 10 years it’s been! Started in 2007 by Alexis Charpentier aka DJ Lexis in Montreal, Canada, Music Is My Sanctuary has been dedicated to discovering and presenting music often overlooked by mainstream music channels through articles, interviews, radio shows, DJ mixes, and events. 

The "10th Anniversary Compilation: Never Stop Digging" is an eclectic collection featuring 17 unreleased tracks from artists who all share the same vision and passion, and who represent the mentality and styles that Music Is My Sanctuary works to push forward. 

Side A focuses on some more floor-oriented grooves from artists who are known for both producing and DJing. Side B (kicked off by the ever-mysterious Clutchy Hopkins) is dedicated to the Hip Hop and Funk heads featuring artists who have all put their own unique spin on genres that have come before. Consider this a Future Classics affair! 

This project is a collaboration with 101 Apparel, who are providing the "Never Stop Digging" T-shirts which can be purchased from 101 Apparel directly. Both the T-shirt and cassette were designed by Montreal's Nik Brovkin. The official Music Is My Sanctuary 10th Anniversary celebration was held at Montreal’s Centre Phi, promoted and broadcasted live by Boiler Room. A big thank you goes out to the artists who provided tracks for this compilation, and to all artists who keep creating such fantastic music for us to share and enjoy. Without you there would be no us, and for this we can’t thank you enough!

We welcome back long-time First Word family, Souleance, with ‘Bamboule’; fresh from their respective cut-ups for our sister label, Excursions, and their recent ‘Raw Funk’ set, we have a 5-track EP containing something for all the family, crafted with love once again by France’s Fulgeance & DJ Soulist. A truly eclectic collection, comprised of afro grooves, tropical vibes, b-boy rhymes, head-nodding shakers and intensely hype floor-fillers. A seriously fun selection. 

It kicks off with ‘Partay’, a mid-tempo slice of bouncy tropical boogie that does exactly what it says on the tin. An effervescent synth-bassline rides on top of a delectable disco shuffle, complete with classic reggae chants. 

Title track ‘Bamboule’ is a seriously energetic afro-funk beast. A truly infectious percussive rhythm track, laced with an immense bassline, vocal chops and synth rides, this one is 100% guaranteed to entice any dancefloor into a trance-like state of bugged-out body moves. 

’That Guy’ is some uptempo piano-rolling hip hop business, enlisting the help of Brooklyn MC, Von Pea, from the crew Tanya Morgan, who’ve been making noise on the independent hip hop scene for over a decade, as well as recently collaborating with GUTS. 

We dip down to around the 85BPM mark for ‘J’aime Marcher’, a lounging boom bap bumper with sloppy drums, jazzy rhodes and vivacious horns. 

Closing the EP is ‘Brown Bags’; an almost Dilla-esque cut-up, complete with rolling neck-breaking drums, sweet soul samples and stabs of prog rock. An abundance of variety, we think you’ll agree. 

For those that don’t know, the Parisian duo hooked up just over a decade ago, and haven’t stopped to rock & shock parties, clubs and festivals globally since, building a fan-base of solid party people and revered selectors along the way. As always, the wonderful Alice Dufay provides the artwork, making this an essential package for you and yours.

Bosq from Whiskey Barons is back with more heat for the dancefloor in the form of a double 12” release.

“Up & Down” continues the formula of classic sounding dance grooves with heavy Afro Latin influences throughout on this special all instrumental offering and features the reunion of Bosq with Nigerian composer / producer / singer Kaleta, who this time around remains an instrumentalist, handling guitar and the horn arrangements. The track - "Up & Down" went through so many revisions and mixes that it could only be properly represented with 2 very different versions. The NYC 91 mix focuses on the dance floor with pulsing afro house drums and a scorching horn section, while the NIgeria 76 mix keeps it organic and funky with a live kit taking over for the drum machines and a new arrangement.

BOSQ Feat. Kaleta "UP & DOWN 12"" Preview

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting more disillusioned with SoundCloud with every change they make. The new algorithm and its 'recommendations' ignore mixes and any tracks over 10 mins, they've removed the New & Hot charts and replaced them with irrelevant crap like "Events near you", and this new UI has me searching for a way to revert it.
