Ride or Die

Wrote this and first recorded it in 1990. I was working in London and hadn’t been home in over 9 months. I hated it, folk didn’t speak, everyone was in a hurry and I longed to home to be with family, friends and loved ones . 


I hear the heather whisper low 
Where the wild winds curl and go 
A soft ache fills my chest You know 
The hills are calling Calling me home 

Highland sighs They breathe my name 
In every breeze It's all the same 
Scotland Oh Scotland I’m lost in your skies 
Take me back Where my heart lies  

The lochs are mirrors for my dreams 
Silver ripples Quiet streams 
I see your face in the moon's pale beams
 But you're too far It’s tearing at the seams

Make Your Choice

They do what they want simply because they can.   
I do what I can, because I am here.

They no longer feel the hypocritical need to justify their actions.   
I do not justify. I bear witness.

They speak loudly. They reverse the facts.   
I speak softly. But I do not lie.

Totalitarian culture does not force. It erases.   
I do not shout. But I trace. Even if it’s fragile.

The algorithm holds captive, but does not elevate thought.   
I watch over the moment. And I breathe in the present.

Meta thrives on noise. Amazon on speed.   
I watch over the link. And I breathe in the slow.

Exxon and Lockheed thrive on destruction.   
I do not thrive. I breathe. And I watch.

Violence is a drug. It excites, it justifies.   
I am not excited. I am here. Sober. Present.

Diplomacy is possible, but refused.   
I do not refuse. I extend my hand. Even if it trembles.

The world approaches universal death in a frightening way.   
I am not the universe. But I am alive. And I remember.

Russell and Einstein wanted to remember their humanity, and forget the rest. I am what is forgotten. And I remember.
