On 'I wish I had a dog', Aderyn sets her sights (and tongue-in-cheek lyrics) on the state of her generation. In a punchy 2 and a half minutes, Aderyn lambasts landlords and music scene rich kids, with a breathy insouciant vocal in the verses that explodes into a singalong chorus. 'I wish I had a dog' is a song that would sound at home on any 90s movie soundtrack, and yet uniquely encapsulates the disenfranchisement of the 2020s. Aderyn says of the song "I wrote this song about the surreal times we are living in. The lyric 'all the girls are selling pictures of their feet' really sums up the absurdity of my generation. It's probably more common for a girl in her twenties to have an OnlyFans than own a house. As an artist, I want to talk about that."

It's interesting how at this faster tempo the song comes across as quite angry and slightly erratic, whereas the slowed down piano and guitar versions sound quite sad (check my other tracks for these).
