PREMIERE: Sneaky - Rave Runner [Subplate Recordings]

'Gravity Well'. Here, driving rhythms set the tone while bass sounds hit the ear and morph into fluid matter. It's a high-octane slice of drum & bass, imparting a rush of energy to the body from minute one and never letting up. 'Gravity Well' is sure to get dancefloors moving. 

Nightdrive will arrive to Beatport & Spotify on 22nd July, landing on all digital platforms two weeks later on 5th August.

Title track 'Nightdrive' kicks off the release. Pummeling drums and heavy bass riffs make up the track's framework, and pad arrangements linger low in the mix, giving a tense atmosphere to the introductory period. CZA keeps the minimalism going as the tune rolls on, and 'Nightdrive' benefits from that, every drum hit burrowing into the brain's deepest corners, an invitation from sound to move the body.

“Mycelium” paints an ominous picture from the jump with its disquieting drones and garbled lashings of bass, in contrast to its lighter counterpart. By the drop, volatile breakbeats have come into play, stuttering and stopping unpredictably and making use of atypical drum programming to bring a breath of fresh air to a familiar style. Topped off with spluttering, mechanical synths that yo-yo around the scale with a feverish intensity, it’s an inventive composition, leaning into sci-fi sensibilities to create an immersive listening experience that showcases yet another string to CZA’s bow.

“Reanimate” has been constructed with an audible attention to detail, building from minimal, percussive passages to giddy crescendos designed to keep listeners on their toes without breaking the spell of its hypnotic bassline. Taking stylistic cues from D&B’s formative years while remaining firmly rooted in the present, this roller is prime CZA and, as its title suggests, finds itself in constant motion.

Fa11out is a name which is soon to become one of the most notorious across club land, with the Bosnian producers already setting a
stage in which they can detonate each slick cut they’ve fashioned onto audiences across Europe. Moving through the C4C moniker, they make a perfect addition to the label’s already formidable roster of artists, one which has historically set the foundations of
neurofunk, platforming them as tastemakers throughout the wider scene. And this is why newcomer artists on the label receive so much attention. The A&R skills of C4C, run by a collective who’ve each proved their heritage within drum & bass, streams through Fa11out’s records and this becomes instantly recognisable
on the EP’s first list.

But it’s not just music which Fa11out spearhead. They’re an audio visual duo who formed in 2007 and they’re artists in the truest sense of the word; digital painters, film animators and graphic designers, they push their talent for the visual artists through an audio interface, with their performances of live video installations
becoming a renowned part of their signature. They’re also no strangers to C4C, having designed album artwork for the imprint, so their return to the label via three brand new records only heightens the curiosity around them.

The title-track of Fa11out’s forthcoming EP ‘Necronaks’ demonstrates why C4C are such are such an imperative platform. The track’s crunching, distorted bassline and each slamming drum sequences nods to the underground appeal of C4C and their artists. Then Fa11out bring head honchos Optiv and CZA into the
mix for ‘Bleed Likes Us’, another record with a sharp hook which oozes technicality and flows with metallic percussion, leaving a seismic aftertaste. Finally, Sandra Nadarevic adds her stunning vocals across the composition of ‘Insidious Bliss’, a record which shows a more melodic side to Fa11out’s production standard and highlights how the pair are masters of their own sonic spectrum. The diversity given a pedestal by C4C is enviable. ‘Necronaks’ is a package which shows what Fa11out are about, not just as producers but also as creatives.

This is one of many reasons why they were welcomed into the realms of C4C.

Having left a trail of releases though labels such as Spearhead, AudioPorn and Natty Dub, we’re really please to welcome him back to V as we celebrate our 25th year with a stellar EP that perfectly showcases his sound in 2018.

This 5-track release holds characteristics typical to Saxxon, drum-heavy, jazzy, and most importantly, the ability to tear up any dancefloor. Although tracks hold the distinctive ‘Saxxon’ sound, there’s more than enough to make each track unique. From the concrete roller ‘Here To Play’, all the way through to the sub bass rattling ‘The System’ featuring Mr Multiplex.

Whenever you think of the name CZA, a few things spring to mind. Quality, versatility and a habit of producing simply big tracks.
