Living a double-life can sometimes come with challenges, but for Evgenii Khmel, his double-life has a whole different meaning as a he splits his creative time between two successful aliases within the bass music scene.

Now living life with his family in Koh Phangan, Thailand, you can still be sure to catch a flash of leopard print prowling between drum & bass and dubstep raves as both Leo Cap and Black Barrel, the latter of which dropped his latest EP recently on Dispatch.

Having a real tight knit bond with Dispatch Recordings, Black Barrel recently released Want To Feel EP on the label which features four tracks classic deep and rolling beats from the man himself. He continues to be a resident and loyal family friend of the label.

For over a decade, Mako has been a distinctive presence, both as an individual and through his music, a talent we’ve proudly showcased at Metalheadz.

This September, we are honoured to release his third album on the label, and his second solo endeavour, which serves as a seamless continuation of his earlier work. His 2020 album, ‘Oeuvre’, represented years of dedication and refined production, solidifying Mako's esteemed place within the Metalheadz family.

Now, four years later, we’re thrilled to present ‘Oeuvre – Part 2’. This 12-track album is a celebration of Mako’s deep passion for music, while also reflecting his sometimes disillusioned views on a modern era that often seems to pass us by. In a world where individuality can struggle to shine amidst an overwhelming flood of content, Mako’s superior production stands out as a beacon, demanding not just recognition, but active listening.

Mako’s commitment to his musical community is evident throughout the album, with contributions from long-time collaborators Fields, Hydro, Villem, and Mikal, each bringing their unique expertise to the project. The album also features a special collaboration with the late Marcus Intalex, a friendship that blossomed in the years before Marcus’ untimely passing and one that continues to bear fruit.

Diving into the heart of the album reveals Mako’s charm as a producer: from the captivating vocals in ‘Feed You’, the sleek homage to techstep in "Suspension’, to the pure dancefloor energy of ‘Direct Source’, a track long favoured by Goldie. As expected, Mako also delivers deeper, more contemplative pieces like the album’s opener ‘True Expression’ and the graceful melodies of ‘Overshare’.

Markee Ledge is a deep drum & bass and dubstep DJ / producer
with a long history in underground electronic music.
 He made drum & bass as Substance in the 90s, releasing on labels like 
31 Records, Formation and his own Ruffneck Ting and Breakbeat Culture 
imprints. 
He was also the founder of electronic crossover band Kosheen which took Markee onto a bigger stage of festivals music awards, TV shows and touring the globe. 
More recently he’s also immersed himself in the 140 BPM scene with a love of deep UK dubstep and has had heavyweight releases on the likes of Tempa, 
Artikal Music UK, Uprise Audio and his own Zonal label. 
Although he’s always been a versatile producer in deep electronic
music, vocal tracks have always been his forte. Recently, he’s been
working with new vocalists on a collection of uplifting drum & bass
vocal tunes. Markee has sourced the singers from countries like Nigeria,
USA, The Netherlands and the UK, there are also familiar faces such
as MC Jakes and MC Megatron.
