Great thought-provoking ballad / tribute. I knew about his explorations, and remembered that he was a prominent man, but after listening, looked up the rest.  Most amazed that after all his accomplishments, he was only 35 when he died.

Beautiful! There is a Kentucky fiddle tune called Meriweather.

@robwoolf: Robert..Meriwether Lewis led 1st expedition from St Louis, Missouri to the Pacific Ocean in 1704. Later became Governor of Louisiana Territory. Much maligned early hero accused of suicide on the Nachez Trace but many of us believe he was murdered by General Wilkinson due to Lewis's intent to report land fraud and murders by Wilkinson.
