Neville Watson makes his DBA debut proper after appearing on Special Editions in 2013 with four rave-ready belters. Coming fresh from releases for ASOK’s Scenery label and Craig Richards’ The Nothing Special, Watson continues to explore the house sound of the UK, replete with bleeps, acid yells and basslines.

Amongst the track titles some will also note a tongue in cheek tribute to the UK’s least popular export, the Great British Douchebag. Gym-goers will be familiar with the Creatine quaffing, equipment-hogging lovers of fake tan who've forgotten to train their legs. Just remember though, underneath the stench of cheap aftershave and alcopops, these young men just want to dance like the rest of us.

House and techno DJ and producer John Daly has been releasing records for over ten years, primarily on his own Feel Music label, but has also seen his work feature on Drumpoet, Secretsundaze and One Track Records. The Galway based artist also releases under the moniker The Smoke Clears, an ambient project whose debut album was released to acclaim last year. He's provided this week's Ransom Note mix here for us, and a few answers to some questions...

Underground Resistance - Mark Flash - Dark Symphony

Branko, a newcomer from Norrköping on the east coast of Sweden, presents „Kao Staklo“. Having previously featured tracks on the critically acclaimed „A beginners guide to Norrköping Techno“ , a release curated by his fellow countryman Nihad Tule and Inter Gritty aka NTTA11; the young Swede takes center stage with his UИCAGΞ debut.

Top and tailing the EP with his two originals Branko opens with „Oprosti“. A melodic number featuring a floating chord over a sharp beat. This is followed by the first of two remixes of „Kao Staklo“. Darren Roberts aka Deepbass rolls out one of his trademark reworks with a deep and trippy seven-minute opus.

The B side opens with Swedish mastermind Skudge who delivered a groovy and psychedelic minimal remix of „Kao Staklo“, before we´re finally introduced to the original title track with its misty atmospheres and melancholic grooves. A rock solid first release.

Tresor Records marks its 250th release with a very special project indeed. Continuing to forge ahead whilst remaining ever mindful of its legacy, Tresor proudly presents Infiniti - The Remixes: a trilogy of classic cuts and new reworks from one of its original Detroit linchpins Juan Atkins.

Dubbed as his “pure techno” project, Atkins produced two full-length albums under the Infiniti moniker—The Infiniti Collection, released by Tresor in 1996, and Skynet two years later. 16 years on and they are as relevant today as they were pioneering then, brought further up-to-date here with a series of fresh takes from some of techno’s pioneering and esteemed figures: Thomas Fehlmann, TV Victor, Function, Redshape, Sleeparchive and the re-release of dubtechno vanguard Moritz Von Oswald's remix of "Think Quick", originally released in '94 on Metroplex.

Part One - The Orb’s Thomas Fehlmann picked two tracks, one in each album, to form a very special combo-mix. The shimmering “Walking On Water” and "Raindrops" come together in a beautiful old-school sounding version. Tresor Records ambient stalwart TV Victor plies his vision to present a hypnotic take on the gently elevating “Thought Process”. 

Part Two picks up the pace, heading further down the timeline with “Flash Food”—originally released in 1995 as part of one of the label’s famous annual compilations, re-edited by Sandwell District’s Function. Skynet’s punchy classic on the flip, “Skyway” rounds off the EP with a killer old-school remix by techno’s masked crusader Redshape.

Part Three concludes with a remix package of The Infiniti Collection’s brooding slow-burner “Think Quick”, backed with an offering from one of Berlin’s revered electronic practitioners Sleeparchive and the re-release of Moritz Von Oswald's remix, initially released on Metroplex in 1994 - a rarity.

Mark knew where he needed to be when other kids were running the streets. He was trying to figure out how to get into the clubs. In 1979, he got his first set of turntables. Mark taught himself the meaning of struggle as he began the process of spinning at small parties, trying to build himself up. In the mid-80’s, Mark was determined not to stop. Due to the work required in promotions, he was a busy man. He seemed to be everywhere at once, yet extremely hard to find. Mark Flash was a not a name he chose, but one that was given to him by fans, and it stuck. Beyond that, the music was something that had been a part of his life as far back as he could remember.

With underground parties and raves, the word began to spread that Mark Flash was a name to be loved if you were a party or club goer and respected if you were a DJ. Thanks to a tip from a longtime friend, DJ Rolando of the techno terrorists, Underground Resistance, Flash began flexing his musicianship as a behind the scenes producer for the house music label, Soul City, Merging House, Techno, Latin/Brazilian Soul and Funk. Mark Flash is one of the few DJ/Producers who can legitimately play an instrument and read music; he is not looking to bore you with pseudo-intellectualism. He wants to make you move. He defines his production style as “electropic funk”. Mark Flash has since joined forces with LOS HERMANOS : Gerald Mitchell and Ray 7, TIMELINE : De’Sean Jones, Jon Dixon, Mark Flash, Mike Banks, DEPTH CHARGE : Mark Flash and Mike Banks strictly Detroit style and his own band known as D3 [DESCENDANTS OF THE RESISTANCE] : Jon Dixon - keyboardist extraordinaire & De’Sean Jones - saxophone genius. More recently he started THE MARK FLASH EXPERIENCE revealing his production skills on keyboards, drum machines and live percussion all incorporation with video and DJ set.

Traveling internationally, he has shown the world that there’s more to him than just the typical DJ. With skills in keyboards and percussion, Mark Flash puts on a unique show utilizing his talents to form a musical hybrid. As a member of Underground Resistance [UR-078], Flash has taken on multiple projects such as upcoming remixes, new releases, DJ mixes, collaborations, performing at local/international events and charity benefits, Mark Flash launched his new label DTFA with HORS D'OEUVRES EP as digital series of snack tracks we like to call "Dj food". Something quick and delicious for the crowd to devour - "Not designed to feed the mind.... The goal is to feed the soul".

Mark Flash is still participating as a mentor for Red Bull Music Academy, SPIN INC University and DJ School Chile, helping new and upcoming DJs, musicians reach their musical goals while also teaching them about the rich musical history of Detroit and how it helped shape the music industry from past to present.

Paying more “dues” than most, Mark Flash is not to be played with. After all he’s been through, he’s not about to back down from the musical game.
