The Grey Area mix is a collection of celebral minimalism from which is a speciality of Robert Hood.   Never before has there been an illustration of the many values of "grey" within the genre we call Minimal.
While Minimal is now a sound all on its own which varies from region to region, deep concentration takes you through the mind of one of it's pioneers for a close analysis of this particular variation. The Grey Area.

*Individually numbered and signed copies - Rob Hood at his absolute deepest. 300 copies only for the world!!!* Original minimal master Robert Hood follows up his essential Fabric set from earlier this year with an exclusive and insanely limited mix CD drawing for a specialized run of purified Detroit/Berlin deep and dubby techno. The Grey Area title refers to Rob's vision of Detroit techno and electronic music as the sound that occupied the forgotten zones of Detroit, the areas that became utilised for warehouse parties back in the day, and still humm and whirr with the timeless sound of technology long after the actual heavy indutry has gone. There's a soulfully longing thread tying the tracks together, from the opening anonymous tracks to Maurizio's 'M4.5' and on into previously unobserved depths with a slew of exclsuive and unreleased M-Plant style killers this is eactly the kind of selection that has won Mr. Hood a legion of devoted fans across the world, and has massively influenced the sound of the scene's biggest clubs, with Dettmann and Klock's brand of stripped but powerful techno house owing a massive debt to his sound. We're struggling to name many of the tracks here which is one of the best features of this mix, it's so fresh much of it hasn't even seen the light of day yet but we'd be massively grateful if any of the keener ears out there (or Hood himself) would like to send us a tracklist! Especially track 14, or 17, or 21, what the f**k are they?! If the Fabric mix left you asking for something that little bit deeper and nastier you can't sleep on this righteous mix. ESSENTIAL PURCAHSE!

Solid Steel (9th February) In Hour 1 we welcome Robert Hood, founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance (with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks and Jeff Mills) following the release of his third and final installment in a trilogy of EP releases for Dekmantel Records, that initially began back in February 2016. 'Paradygm Shift Volume 3' embraces the trademark, minimal, funk techno sounds that defined his earlier career and is an extension on the concept as outlayed by Hood during the project’s conceptual stage: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’ He’s currently finalising a new EP due for release in April on his own M-Plant label.

Mark knew where he needed to be when other kids were running the streets. He was trying to figure out how to get into the clubs. In 1979, he got his first set of turntables. Mark taught himself the meaning of struggle as he began the process of spinning at small parties, trying to build himself up. In the mid-80’s, Mark was determined not to stop. Due to the work required in promotions, he was a busy man. He seemed to be everywhere at once, yet extremely hard to find. Mark Flash was a not a name he chose, but one that was given to him by fans, and it stuck. Beyond that, the music was something that had been a part of his life as far back as he could remember.

With underground parties and raves, the word began to spread that Mark Flash was a name to be loved if you were a party or club goer and respected if you were a DJ. Thanks to a tip from a longtime friend, DJ Rolando of the techno terrorists, Underground Resistance, Flash began flexing his musicianship as a behind the scenes producer for the house music label, Soul City, Merging House, Techno, Latin/Brazilian Soul and Funk. Mark Flash is one of the few DJ/Producers who can legitimately play an instrument and read music; he is not looking to bore you with pseudo-intellectualism. He wants to make you move. He defines his production style as “electropic funk”. Mark Flash has since joined forces with LOS HERMANOS : Gerald Mitchell and Ray 7, TIMELINE : De’Sean Jones, Jon Dixon, Mark Flash, Mike Banks, DEPTH CHARGE : Mark Flash and Mike Banks strictly Detroit style and more recently started his own band known as D3 [DETROIT TRIO LIVE] : Jon Dixon - keyboardist extraordinaire & De’Sean Jones - saxophone genius.

Traveling internationally, he has shown the world that there’s more to him than just the typical DJ. With skills in keyboards and percussion, Mark Flash puts on a unique show utilizing his talents to form a musical hybrid. As a member of Underground Resistance [UR-078], Flash has taken on multiple projects such as upcoming remixes, new releases, dj mixes, collaborations, performing at local/international events and charity benefits, Mark Flash will announcing his new label “AUDIO FLUID” coming soon.

Mark Flash is still participating as a mentor for Red Bull Music Academy, SPIN University and Dj School Chile, helping new and upcoming Djs, musicians reach their musical goals while also teaching them about the rich musical history of Detroit and how it helped shape the music industry from past to present.

Paying more “dues” than most, Mark Flash is not to be played with. After all he’s been through, he’s not about to back down from the musical game.
