Just yesterday I started uploading a few plugins (software) for my Reaper DAW. I upgraded to EZDrummer 3 from 2 and also bought EZKeys 2 - a piano library and piano chord progression arranger. I also uploaded a few free plugins like Piano One, Iota Mini and Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol that includes Kontakt and other sound engines and loops. So I created a simple song in EZDrummer and EZKeys. What happens if I drop the midi chord patterns into Piano One, Kontakt, and Iota? Well Piano One will play the piano part like EZKeys. The others? A few interesting, maybe twisted results. Judge for yourself.

I'm a big fan of Toto and I thought I'd give this cover of Africa a go. This may be my most ambitious cover project yet. Here's the nerd breakdown: I transcribed the keyboard parts - brass synth pad, kalimba and flute - in MuseScore and then exported the parts as midi files into Reaper. I used a few different Native Instruments plugins for the sounds. The drums and percussion parts were done in EZDrummer 3 and guitars and bass are real. And so is my voice. Except for a little Autotune, EQ, compression and reverb. 😉 And of course I had to add a guitar solo as an outro. Just because. Hope you like this sample. It'll become a backing track without the vocals and guitars. Hopefully it won't be taken down as a copyright strike. I own no rights to this music.

Haven't done a recording in a while and I forgot how to change the volume on tracks using envelope editing.  My voice is terrible but once again, it will be dropped down for the worship leader (who just might be me this Sunday, yikes).

I couldn't quite get the delay and tone of the electric guitar like on the Phillips Craig & Dean version, but oh well, this'll do for now.  Piano and the two synth pads were done with the GR-55.  The acoustic guitar is a Breedlove Atlas AC25SR Plus and the electrics are done with a PRS Custom 24 through a Boss ME-70.  Bass is my trusty el cheapo Jackson.

Update 12/28/18 Remixed to tone the bass down especially in the lower frequencies.  Used the SoundRadix SurferEQ2 for this.  Also added compression to the drum kit.

Update 5/18/20 Punched in some of the vocals and added treble enhancement to the entire mix.

Revelation Song - Phillips Craig & Dean version for worship team

A cover of Cecilio & Kapono's Good Time Together to demonstrate the tenor sax and electric piano voice of the Roland GR-55 guitar synth.  Spent all night on the vocals and it's still not quite right.  Just a for fun demo project - I receive no compensation for this.
