Every once in a while over a 30 year dj career you have a special gig that goes in the hall of fame. This past summer I traveled to Calgary with my best friend Shael for us both to dj at the legendary Versions Tuesday night patio party at Broken City. This set was as close to my true musical self as I have played in a very long time. Such a perfect night with amazing people. Handing the deck off to my partner in crime Shael was exactly where I needed to be. 
This is as close to the set as I can remember. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

a redux of my set from Sheetfaced . A warehouse rave Halloween in Saskatoon.
500 people in a proper warehouse with a killer PK sound system and great lighting brought out my trancey side and they were there for it. Saskatoon knows how to get down!!
I blew out my ankle on the way to stage and played anyways. Shout out to my homie Grubb for wrapping me up and my sista Shael for helping me home. You are the best. 
What a time we had! Cant wait to go back!

I was always so nervous and he always made me laugh and have fun.

Transcending to Outa Space

About 30 years ago I released my first mass produced tape I Gotta Be Me. When I say mass produced I mean I sat on my apartment floor for days dubbing tapes one at a time to give away at my gigs.
30 years later I'm older and maybe a bit wiser and I still live by those words as a deejay. 
I gotta be me because I don't know how to be anyone else. Follow your heart musically and it will lead the way. It sure worked for me.

This mix is a tribute to that sentiment. It's filled with breakbeats and bass and 4x4 fun with a big helping of rave because...I gotta be me!

WOW what a night we had. To follow my OG rave homie BAMBS with a packed dance floor full of people I love was so special. I don’t usually play a whole set of speed garage but the moment called for it! Cant wait for our next event.

In February I went on a Dj adventure to Toronto to play Boogie on Queen for the Thank Funk Its Friday event celebrating my old school brother Brian 2thebeats birthday. I had so much fun I had to rerecord the set and release it into the wild. Done live in one take with no edits so you get the real live feeling. I cant wait to return to Boogie!

What would summer be without a trip to Calgary to play Versions. This is always a highlight of my summer. This years installment started wth is driving 16 hours strait (on our way to Basscoast) and walking on to the decks.  I played this hour then @djshael played an hour then we had the funnest B2B to close the patio down. Nothing better than playing music with your bestie for amazing humans under the sun and stars! An original raver, Mark began DJing in 1986. He started playing raves in Toronto back in 1994. Mark Grimace was part of some of the city’s most legendary original rave crews, playing everything from warehouse parties and festivals, to the city’s best clubs. Mark has also toured extensively across North America. His journey has had him sharing the stage with some of the scene’s earliest pioneers and biggest stars. 

In 2016 Mark and his family relocated to Winnipeg. He didn't skip a beat. Mark immediately became involved in Winnipeg's dance music community, both as a selector and facilitator.

Mark is just as active behind the scenes as he is behind the decks, helping bring people together to grow the community at large. Mark’s infectious energy captivates crowds wherever he goes. With over 30 years as an active and dedicated DJ, he's developed an eclectic style with top-tier technical ability. Mark's sets flow seamlessly from genre to genre, moving from broken beats to 4/4 and all points in between. Mark Grimace is as comfortable at a club or festival as he is playing at a dirty warehouse.
