Alas, spring is finally here… and while we’re at it, so is MR007)) This latest endeavor, brought together by Entrañas, offers an inspired take on traditional Ecuadorian rhythms like Bomba and Albazo. Criaturas, as the name suggests, dives into various animalistic tendencies, showcasing them across five heavy-hitting tracks.

The EP begins with Vibora, a collaborative track between Entrañas and fellow Quiteño, MIJIN. Sitting at 140 bpm, it makes for a fitting mid-paced entry to the release. Highlighted by cowbell and vocal chops galore, Vibora stands out equally for home listening and crowd retention alike.
Next up is Buitre, an absolutely ravaging (and scavenging) low-90 bpm cut named after the vulture. With passages full of crunched-out wubs and un-quantized rhythmics, this one will surely be a staple for the summer.

The third track in the project, Rata, cruises calmly around 100 bpm and is characterized by three distinct sections. These sections offer a certain versatility to selectors looking to add another weapon to their toolboxes, and with its distinct traditional patterning it offers a variety and nuance that we have yet to have seen at Markham Road. Stoked))

Sapo (frog), as described by the artist, is someone who likes to gossip. As a final scathing exclamation point for the project, Sapo joins us in two forms: the first being a 160 bpm tidal wave from Entrañas, and the second a grime-riddled remix from Rizla Ops. Both cuts employ various dancefloor tactics to stir movement inside and outside the booth, and we couldn’t imagine a better sonic marriage of label friends, both new and old. We’re particularly fond of the crescendo nature of both tracks as they warp through the speakers and are feeling lucky that they’ve found a home here at the Road.

Entrañas - Criaturas [MR007]

London-based producer Slacker lands on Markham Road Records with an exercise in both sample juggling and unrelenting pressure. Got Me Down's trio of waveforms spin the same vocal chop to produce some heavy, club-ready sounds. These three tracks lie on the pacier side of the BPM range, instructing a late-night application of their rhythms.

Leading out with the title track Got Me Down, Slacker pounds the subs harder than a Nona making pesto. Fitting somewhere between hard tech and dubstep, Got Me Down is a roller coaster of ups and downs (but mostly ups) that aims to leave dancers rather eager to stay on the floor.

The EP continues with a call and repeat called You Don’t Care. Developing over various percussive lines and bass swells, the track showcases Slacker’s expertise in sorting, pacing, and delivering THE drums. Just like Pooh Beatz, "He Like The HI Hat God Kinda."

The track also gets a spin courtesy of Europe’s other mega metropolis. Paris-based De Grandi morphs You Don’t Care into a step-friendly basstech track in his latest remixing endeavor. In this remix, two heavy driving sections are laced together by a rather introverted bridge to allow dancers to regain their footing. As per the rest of the project, the remix maintains elements of the original vocal chop while introducing new percussive and rhythmical accoutrement.

Slacker - Got Me Down [MR008]

Drums Don’t Burn is a contemplative statement piece from Paris-based Subsism (Guillaume Arnaud) that remains acutely aware of the artist’s past production while embracing a more natural state of flow. This duality is repeatedly demonstrated in a hybrid of spell-casting, acoustic rock, dub, and metal. A coming of age for both the artist and the label, Drums Don’t Burn is both our first full-length EP and the first project to be released on both digital and analog formats (yes, we made a tape).

The EP grew out of a year of assembly across central, eastern, and southern France, translating various influences into six original tracks. A final climactic effort came together in a little studio lost in the hills of Morvan, where Guillaume and Arthur Kern wrangled a 3-day mix session, with results being described as nothing other than heavy. Simultaneously, Warzou (Aurélien Arnaud… although surprisingly not Guillaume’s brother) and Ronja Kappl were forming the remix and artwork, respectively.

The EP begins with a series of introductory statements. This varying ambience of opening textures and vocal effects is greeted by the first taste of drum patterns found further along the road. It goes without saying that the graphics pulled a lot of inspiration from both Susana and Radiant Recess, the lead-out tracks on the project.
Falling straight to track number three, Shawskank sits in Subsism’s ever-hybrid jungle aesthetic. With a pulsing heart flashing remnants of past trance productions, Shawskank continues to guide listeners into the universe of Drums Don’t Burn. Following up, Loom Vigi is a standalone dubstep track that commands the attention of the project’s mid-section. ‘Dubby Club’ that ebbs and weaves before ultimately making way for the ever-personal, ever-enrobing Velvet Ache.

When we first met with Guillaume, there was mention of vocals in the project. Having no past references to go by, I don’t think anyone expected that they would materialize as the most stirring/warming/powerful part of the album. Of course, this is just our opinion, and we always prefer that you come to your own, but Velvet Ache remains the centrepiece of our breaky-achy hearts.

And finally, Drums Don’t Burn is both the title track and the axis of the album. It was the first track sketched for the project, and ultimately the choice for the remix. This special positioning in the creative process means that it has informed almost every output in this little universe. Followed by the Warzou remix, both versions make up either side of an asymmetrical pairing, fielding a full circle of approaches.

MR010 spins what we’ve perceived as noRecall’s continued electronic ode to grime and hip hop. Islay begins with a truly blended lead-out piece called Grid Failure. The track evolves around punchy grime drums and sonic swing, creating an environment where function meets form and form meets function. The project moves forward with Inhalation’s commanding choral intro, a rather fitting lead that both juxtaposes and highlights sub-smashing frequencies. Inhalation’s stepping patterns take us through multiple switch-ups and variations, a common denominator for this ever-morphing EP.

Moving to the third track, listeners are met with hybrid dancehall that is somehow (and rather spectacularly) entangled with nostalgic 8-bit crush. Islay’s (this time the track, not the EP) introduction serves as a crowd breather before the ensuing onslaught of patterning and low-end weight. It’s clear how much time went into its composition… a labor of love that offers many class ear catching elements.

And now, to guess which direction the remix would take would’ve been futile! All we knew was that whatever came next was at the mercy of Maude Vôs… and wowie, what a delivery. Maude Vos’ remix depicts something expertly large and immersive, something that requires much more than the dBs produced by my little Renault Clio. This track feels like an audio depiction of the rain cycle, with sonics heated into the atmosphere only to fall back over your head. A fitting curtain call for this project.

Between being a resident/booker at filtr and a regular host on Infame Radio, many have heard count playing at other venues such as Vitamin, Fraktal, and Ankali.

Taking form over a range of bpms, three original tracks accompanied by two remixes come together to shape this tightly knit project. The first track on the EP aptly named “WORK” is an enigmatic drum puzzler highlighted by the familiar voice of Missy Elliot. The track also comes as break-y dance floor heater when remixed by Brazilian -> Berlin based producer/DJ alys(alys)alys. Moving forward to “SPLIT”, a slow stepping wub of a track that is sure to take even the most menacing systems to the red. Stocked with its fair share of change ups, the track also gets tuned to run quick in a remix by Australian producer Lithe. The remix features a rendition of the track reminiscent of a calmer time, although still with its full share of sub attacks. The EP closes with the more introverted rhythm of “STICK N POKE”. This final track finds its niche within the opening or closing of a set when atmosphere is at a premium.

Markham Road Records is back steering steady with atch22, Count, Rizla Ops, and Teqmun in the driver seats. MR003 finds form as a quartet of percussion providing some real bang for your buck. This release was dreamt up for quick stepping activity, and the four tracks assembled provide a wide ranging toolkit to get us all moving. Although each artist provides a unique solution, movement was and remains the underlying idea behind this third release. 

Count’s “Hexagon” opens the project up with a spaced out ‘builder’ that seems to continuously fold in on itself. The track progresses through its 4 minute lifespan with natural and intuitive progression. With its sub heavy cadence “Hexagon” seeps through the speakers, and is sure to remain reliable when used under many circumstances. 

The second track of the release rebounds in as a ricochet rhythm from none other than London based RIZLA OPS. After receiving a demo titled “voo kah” we knew it was love at first sight… and the final iteration aptly named “Cortex” does not disappoint. When asked about the track RIZLA OPS shared “The triplet snare is locked in by a big roomy kick that squares it into that tool-y club space I notice my recent productions are exploring. Cortex finds its name in the buzzy bitcrushed bass that draws from ghosty drill, loose audio jack and ASMR machinery that buries itself in the cranium.” A steady mover with a circular undertone, it doesn’t take much to get moving when this track takes over the system. 

“sexta feira” finds itself on the borders of trance, dembow, and dubstep. Besides these initial patterning queues, atch22 also employs a variety of vocal stabs and modulation to keep the track moving. After a recent move to build a studio in Strahov Stadium (would definitely suggest looking this one up), atch22 has been back behind the monitors, with this track being the first product of his new musical home. The track defines itself in the world of peak time frequencies and fluctuates through a wide range of feelings. Truly something in it for everyone. 

MR003’s concluding track takes sonic blistering to a whole new level. Teqmun’s masterclass in unrelenting percussion continues to capture our hearts, and surge through our speakers. “Stop Scanning the Zebras” is a fast paced tech heavy track centered by vocals from the producer himself. “I imagined being so out of your mind that you can't stop trying to scan zebra's like barcodes with a scanner”. This track is easy to get lost inside of and therefore evokes some sort of free fall -> an exercise in letting go for eager ears in dimly lit spaces.

A lil' Sunday listening could never be complete without the wonders of psytrance. After recently finding their synergy, Prague based Marie Pravda and Kobayashi Maru have joined together on numerous joyful occasions. Spinning and spiralling rhythms have been the by-product as this duo  continue to step into the booth. This specific recordings comes not so live (but very direct) from this past years Amphibian x Nite Vibes party, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do :')

When Marie Pravda settles into a DJ booth she’s there to spark some chemistry with those willing to embrace it. While she is perfectly capable of generating similar energy into her recordings for the online world, it’s the endless push & pull with the physical crowd that charges her selection and mixing. 

Developing into an avid digger during long shifts in gloomy basements and online, the Prague-based DJ and DIY promoter took the Czech scene by storm with her savage take on a growing range of club music – be it with selections from her trippy or dance folders. In 2020 she joined the resident collective of Ankali & Planeta Za where she runs her regular Planeta Pravda club series.

With some real mind bending moments we’d suggest finding some time for this one. Don’t worry if you’re a bit tired too, it’s sure to have you moving in no time 

Over the past few years, Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based DJ Eros has steadily refined an eclectic and singular sound steeped in variegated rhythms and leftfield sonics. With a penchant for all things warped and percussive, their unpredictable sets often snake through various genres and tempos, encompassing everything from mutant bass and drum-coated club to fractured techno, dancehall, juke, and more. These boundless interests spurred them to launch Ring Flip, a genre-agnostic night at Bossa Nova Civic Club that has played host to some of the most talented and individual DJs in New York and beyond.

Next up at Markham we’ve got a mix from the ever busy/ever thoughtful basic chanel. Employing a wide range of Newtonian physics, this mix comes through at a mind bending tempo. Hinting at breaks, psy trance, and dubstep, listeners are allowed to enjoy all the cakes instead of settling for one silly flavour. basic chanel’s tenure at the reigns of Untitled909 have brought many an influence to her craft… something that shines through in this one hour mix. We’re super super happy to have her on the platform, and are looking forward to a future of happy collabs, hugs, and smiles.

Got Me Down's trio of waveforms spin the same vocal chop to produce some heavy, club-ready sounds. These three tracks lie on the pacier side of the BPM range, instructing a late-night application of their rhythms.

The EP continues with a call and repeat called You Don’t Care. Developing over various percussive lines and bass swells, the track showcases Slacker’s expertise in sorting, pacing, and delivering THE drums. Just like Pooh Beatz, "He Like The HI Hat God Kinda."

Slacker - You Don't Care

Slacker's You Don't Care gets a spin courtesy of Europe’s other mega metropolis. Paris-based De Grandi morphs You Don’t Care into a step-friendly basstech track in his latest remixing endeavor. In this remix, two heavy driving sections are laced together by a rather introverted bridge to allow dancers to regain their footing. As per the rest of the project, the remix maintains elements of the original vocal chop while introducing new percussive and rhythmical accoutrement.

Leading out with the title track Got Me Down, Slacker pounds the subs harder than a Nona making pesto. Fitting somewhere between hard tech and dubstep, Got Me Down is a roller coaster of ups and downs (but mostly ups) that aims to leave dancers rather eager to stay on the floor.

On this (rather) rainy Wednesday, we’d like to journey back to our last event at Ankali/Planeta Za. To celebrate his release on Markham Road Records, we had Bristol’s very own delivering a wobbly, sub-heavy journey through the parties’ peak time hours. No stranger to a change-up, Elpac was able to maintain pressure on the dance floor, and drop some tracks from his (at the time) latest EP. For reference, check out E-Saggila's remix of Late Night Bribe around the 1hour45min mark.

Drums Don’t Burn is a contemplative statement piece from Paris-based Subsism (Guillaume Arnaud) that remains acutely aware of the artist’s past production while embracing a more natural state of flow. This duality is repeatedly demonstrated in a hybrid of spell-casting, acoustic rock, dub, and metal. A coming of age for both the artist and the label, Drums Don’t Burn is both our first full-length EP and the first project to be released on both digital and analog formats (yes, we made a tape).

The EP grew out of a year of assembly across central, eastern, and southern France, translating various influences into six original tracks. A final climactic effort came together in a little studio lost in the hills of Morvan, where Guillaume and Arthur Kern wrangled a 3-day mix session, with results being described as nothing other than heavy. Simultaneously, Warzou (Aurélien Arnaud… although surprisingly not Guillaume’s brother) and Ronja Kappl were forming the remix and artwork, respectively.

The EP begins with a series of introductory statements. This varying ambience of opening textures and vocal effects is greeted by the first taste of drum patterns found further along the road. It goes without saying that the graphics pulled a lot of inspiration from both Susana and Radiant Recess, the lead-out tracks on the project.

Falling straight to track number three, Shawskank sits in Subsism’s ever-hybrid jungle aesthetic. With a pulsing heart flashing remnants of past trance productions, Shawskank continues to guide listeners into the universe of Drums Don’t Burn. Following up, Loom Vigi is a standalone dubstep track that commands the attention of the project’s mid-section. ‘Dubby Club’ that ebbs and weaves before ultimately making way for the ever-personal, ever-enrobing Velvet Ache.

When we first met with Guillaume, there was mention of vocals in the project. Having no past references to go by, I don’t think anyone expected that they would materialize as the most stirring/warming/powerful part of the album. Of course, this is just our opinion, and we always prefer that you come to your own, but Velvet Ache remains the centrepiece of our breaky-achy hearts.

And finally, Drums Don’t Burn is both the title track and the axis of the album. It was the first track sketched for the project, and ultimately the choice for the remix. This special positioning in the creative process means that it has informed almost every output in this little universe. Followed by the Warzou remix, both versions make up either side of an asymmetrical pairing, fielding a full circle of approaches.

MR010 spins what we’ve perceived as noRecall’s continued electronic ode to grime and hip hop. Islay begins with a truly blended lead-out piece called Grid Failure. The track evolves around punchy grime drums and sonic swing, creating an environment where function meets form and form meets function. The project moves forward with Inhalation’s commanding choral intro, a rather fitting lead that both juxtaposes and highlights sub-smashing frequencies. Inhalation’s stepping patterns take us through multiple switch-ups and variations, a common denominator for this ever-morphing EP.

Moving to the third track, listeners are met with hybrid dancehall that is somehow (and rather spectacularly) entangled with nostalgic 8-bit crush. Islay’s (this time the track, not the EP) introduction serves as a crowd breather before the ensuing onslaught of patterning and low-end weight. It’s clear how much time went into its composition… a labor of love that offers many class ear catching elements.

And now, to guess which direction the remix would take would’ve been futile! All we knew was that whatever came next was at the mercy of Maude Vôs… and wowie, what a delivery. Maude Vos’ remix depicts something expertly large and immersive, something that requires much more than the dBs produced by my little Renault Clio. This track feels like an audio depiction of the rain cycle, with sonics heated into the atmosphere only to fall back over your head. A fitting curtain call for this project.
